FOR THE RECORD:

Magtech said no will no longer supply bullets for reloading (loaded ammo only)

Berrys Manufacturing just said they don't have bullets and "don't have any plans on production for at least another 3-4 months"!

So not only are the bullets sold...the manufactures aren't even making them.

I don't use weird esoteric bullets that only 1 mfr actually supplies, but it seems like people are catching up. My source of bullets is still a bit behind on my monthly deliveries, but they just shipped the order scheduled for 4 weeks ago (only 2 weeks after the one scheduled for 8 weeks ago), so it appears they are catching up.

I'm more concerned about primers, but not really panicking. If I can't get stuff to shoot at reasonable prices, I'll just go dirtbiking, since gas is cheap.

find components...

I spent a while searching for how to make ammo
back during one of the past shortages...

bullets are fairly easy...  was anyway...
the EPA appears to hate lead in any form.

a mold and you can make enough to keep in practice.
mining at your favorite range may take some time.

if you shoot into a bullet trap, the recovery is easier.

brass cases are reasonably reusable.

find and reload.

the next two things are nothing I ever expect to do,
rather I was looking at how easy or hard it is to make ammo
when no options exist to put dinner on the table.

making powder is possible... it is kinda exacting
some care in production will get you smokeless powder.
I have not found how to modify it for speeds or density

the one component that is close to impossible comes down to primers.
the chemistry is fussy and is best done in small batches...

of note is the chemicals are not common?
buuuut... I have not seen dies to restamp the cups or make the cups
and the little anvils inside...

the current problem is primers not bullets.

My problem is a specific bullet, I have plenty of primers, powder, thousands of 148 HBWC and 148 BNWC and 158 gr RN (stubby) bullets...I need 158 RN "long nose" with cup base.  That bullet is the only one that makes the 120K power factor and shoots 1-1/2" 50 yard groups in my revolvers.

Have you tried the zero brand that the guys suggested over on bullseye l recommend?

They are very accurate in my revolvers. 1 1\2 to 2 1\2 at 50 yards from a Ransom rest.

Really want a long nose 158 RN with cup base, had the best groups at 820 fps (120k power factor).  The others shoot great under 770 fps.  Have a good supply of factory Remington 158 RN Target..that I can use for competition next year.  Wanted to reload over the Winter...but looks like it will be Spring before bullets will be available.  Could be worse ...but I'm in better shape than others.

hi lower40,

sorry, gave you a generic answer and I can see that you did not understand.

your revolver needs bullets that meet specific requirements.

you can have custom made, buy, or trade  to have a mold to make those bullets.

the guys at castboolits have a lot of advice on how to get home made boolits down range

with all the accuracy you'd like.  with some tinkering more may be possible.

please do not ignore the fact that you can easily make bullets

AND

because you can make them, you can make them fit your revolver and that will get you all the accuracy you need.

I am going to over reach here...

I suspect you have a revolver that is called a 9mm.

(ETA: this is how I found out about revolver barrel - case fit issues.)

From some other discussions... it has a barrel that will slug out at .357

that means you want .358 bullets or a soft bullet that will easily obturate.

your hollow base bullets are almost certainly doing that last part.

hunt a lee 38 bullet mold of your liking and try that.

the 9mm ones will be small for your needs.

use a soft lead with only a little tin in it.

clip on wheel weights may be a little hard for your needs.

according to the guys at castboolits, revolvers are a bit more fussy

about what you feed them and take more kinkering.

the reward is a very accurate firearm.

That's not what the headline on the Berrys WWW says.  "WE ARE STILL MAKING BULLETS". Then a lot of stuff about being so far behind as to not take backorders.

This is EXACTLY THE MESSAGE I RECEIVED YESTERDAY

I’m sorry but we don’t have any 148’s or 158’s available right now, we have been out for months and don’t have any plans on production for at least another 3-4 months. If you would please email us again around Christmas time and hopefully we’ll have a better update.

Yeah, they are still manufacturing. In fact, they placed a want ad for bullet techs a few days ago on FB and I am sure elsewhere. They are probably focusing on the more common bullet types.

I just cast and coated 10,000 9mm. And now my 2 month old bullet orders are coming in. I'm currently swimming.

Hope you all fare as well.

that is exactly what happened to me....

Bullets are out there.  Sometimes you just have to be lucky and find them before they sell out again.  Sometimes you have to compromise.  For instance, I can find all the coated bullets I want, and at reasonable prices.  I have enough to last me for years, assuming I can find primers.  I can't find the Berry's heavy plate that I prefer (or even the standard plate) for my PCC at anything like reasonable prices.  In fact I just bought 3000 115 JHP for 3 cents less each than I can get the Berry's for.  Go figure.  So I guess I'll be shooting 115 JHPs for steel challenge.

Never know, they may transfer more energy and work out pretty good. 😀

They look even better when cleaned up and casted into ingots (these are my shoulder shrug “dumbells” since real dumbells are in short supply too):

Quick and dirty dumbells, with emphasis on dirty.  Old automotive disc brake rotors make great dumbells.

I use to buy Berry's bullets.... but...  won't buy from them ever again.. they have completely ignored sport shooters... so when this run on bullets ends... i hope every sport shooter remembers Berry's Bullets ignored sport shooters and buy from other sources...

I've been fine with bullets, just can't be picky.

The discord channel has been on point, was able to score 10k primers this week alone.

Now it's just a matter of fedex not losing another one of my packages....

Discord channel?
