Sport Pistol

I’m looking at changing over from HP 38 to Alliant Sport Pistol for use in my carry optics pistols. I’m currently using coated 139 grain LRN. What is the general consensus on this stuff?

I like the price and availability of this stuff.

I’ve been Thur a little over 12 lbs over the last couple years switching from w-231. Charge wt is close  with sport pistol being a little bit hotter. Sport pistol is cleaner from low to high end of the charge wight and it really cleans up on max loads. I use 4.4 grs with 124 jhp delta P. in my open gun which is very clean burning. I see no need to change.

I was looking for a less expensive replacement for N320 and I thinks Sport Pistol is it.

Is anyone out there using it with 147gn bullets, I was using 3.5gns of N320 and that's what I'm using with Sport Pistol but I have seen charges as low as 3.2gn from others.

Wondering if there is a group opinion and also what the Power Factor would be.

3.1 grains with a Bayou 147 gn RNFP @ 1.140 oal  gives me a power factor of 129 from a 9mm XDm 5.25.  That same load with a 145 gr RN (Bayou) @1.135 oal still gives me a 128+ PF from a 9mm 1911.

Same here:  3.0gr SP with 145gr RN Bayou will just make 125 PF in my 9mm 1911.  If PF is not an issue (Steel Challenge) I can run 3.3gr SP and 115gr Bayou in the same gun.  Working up a PCC Load and I'm down to 3.1gr SP with the same 115gr bullets, but this is with a Wiland barrel.

You don't say what bullets you're using, or OAL

I’m on the Sport Pistol train. I shot titegroup and N320 and sport pistol is the perfect go between in price and performance. 147gr blue bullet out of a g34 with 3.1gr SP. 131PFish

Seems like a lot of folks have jumped on the SP train.  It's becoming increasingly difficult to find the 8lb jugs in stock.

My guys said 8lbs are no longer available.  He got me 2 4lbs for the same price as the last 8 lbs I bought

If you’re using lead, or a coated bullet, that should put you in the low 130s. If jacketed, it should be less. Every barrel is different. The only way to know for sure is to chrono

I'm using the RMR 135 FN jacketed loaded to 1.125/1.130.

Gun is the base P320 X5.

4.0 grains gets me a low 130's power factor with a decent standard deviation.

I took 10 shots on this test but only six registered on the chrono.

However the data is typical of other runs I've made with the same load.

Power Factor Average:                   132

Power Factor Low:                           130

Power Factor High:                          135

Number of Shots:                           6

Minimum:                                         964

Maximum:                                        1004

Spread:                                             40

Average:                                           980

Standard Deviation:                      15

What PF are you making in your open gun?  Also, size of the barrel and which open gun are you using?  4.4 gr seems to be low to be making Power Factor... Hmmmm....  Thanks
