  1. I'd start with whatever gun and caliber you happen to have right now Don't buy first - try it first and see if you like it. Advantages of the 9mm - less expensive to shoot Advantages of the .40 - if you reload to minor PF, you will probably get less recoil than the 9mm.
  2. If you have an offset red dot, do you really need the 1x ? In OPEN, you might get by with a red dot, and a 3-12x ? or 4-16x ? Just a thought ...
  3. Might also check your lubrication. Might need a different lube, or more of it, when it gets cold
  4. Which comp are you using ? Sounds like that load is using it to its full potential
  5. Agree with more TG, but while you're at it, I'd run The Plunk Test with the new bullets - probably NOT a problem, but worth checking while you're at it
  6. Good powder with a light bullet - should produce a LOT of gas How many grains of 3N37 did you use ? How was accuracy at 50 yards ?
  7. Are you looking for a rifle, pistol ... .22 or 9mm ?
  8. In the past month or two, there was a large discussion on this topic here at BE. Seemed like there were a few people who had good luck with their JM's and LOTS of people who did not, or just gave up trying ....
  9. I've shot at more than a dozen different clubs, sometimes in multi-discipline shoots, and have found that at times, conflict with an individual RO or even MD can occur. Simply a personal choice - be wary of the individual and continue to shoot with him/her, or just walk away. My decision has always been to continue to shoot, since I LOVE competitive shooting, but each of us is different - just as easy (or easier) to just walk away and shoot somewhere else. I'm not sure that it's ever a good idea to grab the tablets and start entering data into it without first discussing it with the MD, though p.s. I notice you wrote this posting at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday night/Sunday morning. I wonder if you'll feel a little differently when the sun comes up ?
  10. It most likely will have absolutely no impact on accuracy or safety, BUT, as everyone above mentioned, only trying it out will tell you 100%
  11. I run a 10# spring in my 9mm Major TruBor, and if the gun is really clean and really well lubed, it will do a pretty decent job with factory Remington green box at PF127
  12. So, the plot thickens. We have three people (Bkreutz, Sprig and Echo) who have measured NO temperature variation with WAC, and we have tcazes who has chrono proof that a .40 load is temperature sensitive. Can't wait for the final results on this one
  13. +1. If 8 is too heavy, I'd try 6, if the builder were unavailable
  14. One other advantage of loading long is to lower pressures, which is a very nice feature with .40 Major And, especially with heavy bullets and fast powders.
  15. Just to be safe, are you saying that you have chrono'd WAC rounds from 25 F. to 117 F. and that you have NOT observed any difference in PF ?
  16. When I started in the late 80's (that's 19 80's, not 18 80's), I started with my BHP against Colt .45's but I was shooting minor for my 9mm minor. When I returned from a 12 year hiatus about 12 years ago, everything had changed - so I bought a TruBor 9mm Major, and the rest is all history
  17. Looks like it would be a lot faster than the hammer puller I have had the past 20 years
  18. Darn, I was going to subscribe, but saw your one chapter "making Master by 61". Too late for me, I'm 73
  19. Well, looking for a possible explanation why you would find a large difference whereas neither Bkreutz nor Sprig (above) saw any difference from 40 F to 100 F. Only difference in the equation is the caliber and amount of powder. I use a LOT of WAC in 9mm Major, but never checked PF in cold weather.
  20. I've loaded 9mm "soft loads" with WW231, Red Dot and couple other powders - 125 gr bullets with about 3.0 grains of powder. They all work and are Very Pleasant to shoot, even in my Kel-Tec that weighs less than a box of 9mm ammo PF is around the 110 mark.
