  1. The need for "self imposed abstention" won't vary by the month or season. Might go 6 months and need a 3 month break, or go 17 months and need a two week break. So, self imposed breaks - Yes. Seasonal breaks - No, unless necessary, but not necessarily helpful - might even be disruptive
  2. Did you get DQ'd for hitting the deer ? Or, was it just another "No-Shoot" ?
  3. I presume that's $900 Canadian ? The SDB is about $420 US plus another $100 or $200 and you have a complete reloading machinge. Does Not include, of course the components (powder, primers and bullets). Good luck with it - it's a Great Machine
  4. Not only FC. Many mfgrs have NT brass (non toxic, I believe). Regular FC's, WW's, etc are fine, but NOT if they have NT after their brand, eg. FC good, FC NT bad .... And, I understand they ALL (all NT's) have crimped primer pockets.
  5. IMHO, the most dangerous part of loading .40 Major, is bullet setback. Fast powder, heavy bullet and bullet setback can be a real problem. The way to check is push those ten bullets hard against your loading bench, and re-measure them - see if they are still 1.126". If they got shorter, you could have a problem. Best solved by using an undersized sizing die.
  6. Great idea. I use different bullets (124 JHP for Major, and 147 gr for Minor). Tough to mix them up
  7. I use my major loads - so I don't have to change anything - not the springs or the sighting in for a different load. Yes, RO's love it when I shoot major 9mm loads at steel
  8. Most competitive shooters (I believe) use Lighter springs than come from the factory. You can't go too light, of course, or the gun won't function properly, but few pounds lighter seems to make the recoil bounce a little better
  9. I've never seen the need for a gauge - most of my reloads never get tested, because I have had so few rejects. BUT, if I'm going to a large match, or if I have to travel to get there, I take the barrel out of my gun and Plunk each cartridge into the chamber. Almost all of the "rejects" (I get pretty picky about what fails the Plunk Test) will eventually feed thru my gun during a practice session - so extremely rare that I get a round which doesn't actually feed through my gun. Just don't see all the need to test everything and don't see the need for a gauge - especially if it didn't agree with my chamber
  10. Lot of people use only 1x fired brass for 9 mm Major, but many of us load even brass 9mm Major as often as we can, as long as there are no cracks and primers stay in place
  11. That's a 147 gr bullet ? Does it feed/pass gauge ?
  12. Sorry, Eric, that makes you an "expert" in my mind
  13. If you're using the dot, why not go to a 4x-16x, then ? (Being serious, I've considered it myself).
  14. I have NO experience with PCC's, but have been reading these posts for a decade. I'd carefully examine the posting from Aircooled6racer (above). He seems to be an expert on the subject
  15. Are they more fun than a .223 ?
  16. If I were to leave my scope at 2.5x for most shooting, and hardly ever use 10x, not sure I'd want to switch to a 10x.
  17. Running that damaged brass thru your sizing die should eliminate it, and have your brass looking new again
  18. No disrespect intended, just an honest question : For the same money, you can buy an AR-15 .223. (I know that you can spend $4,000 for an AR, but you can find one for around $700). I don't understand why anyone would want to buy a similar gun in 9mm, instead of a .223, for the same price ? The 9mm has no where near the stopping power, or trajectory, or the range of a .223. Useless for coyotes ? And, I've been reading for the past year or two about all the work going into getting one to run properly ... WHY ? (I can understand that a few people might want one if they shoot a 9mm pistol). BUT, I can't understand that there are thousands of people forming a PCC league to shoot these things - why not just use a .223 ? Again, I'm not trying to provoke or instigate - just trying to understand where this whole PCC thing comes from ???
  19. True dat !!! The more beer I hold, the better those Bermuda shorts look
  20. Been using Slide-Glide on my STI TruBor 9mm Major for years Love it It stopped the grease goop on my C-More which plagued me for years, and works GREAT
  21. As we "Floridians" say : "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder".
  22. None of the "advantages" appeal to me .... The dies are $99 ??? Sorry, don't see any real advantage, here ....
  23. No such thing as "new people or places" .... All ranges work the same, and so do the shooters. Just slightly different faces, but all the same great crowd. I haven't been to Volusia in 2-3 years, but it was great when Dave Pruitt was there, and Manny is just as great
