biglou13
Do you use it? Do you think it is necessary? Pros? Cons? Does it over work brass? Edited October 13, 2015 by biglou13
jlo86cj
Yes. Yes. Especially when you use mixed brass. Seems to keep better tension on bullet. No cons I've found yet. Not that I've noticed.
newboy
Absolutely for mixed brass.
RPatton
Yes. Yes. It eliminates bullet "setback". No cons that I've noticed. Never seen any ill effects on brass. I have seen a LOT of ill effects caused by NOT using one.
Paul-the new guy
I started using it and stopped even bothering with a case gauge. I do lightly lube my brass with one-shot makes it way easier.
moonman16
I use with mixed brass in 9 MM and use one shot spray lube also.
dave33
Never used one and have never seen where it would be of benefit for me. I use a Lee decap/resize die, mixed range pickup brass, and mostly shoot coated lead bullets, though Ive never had a problem with jacketed or plated either. Desmo412
Noticed setback issues with the Hornady sizing die I was using with FC brass. Made the switch to the U die and can now load my 9 major rounds with 115 JHPs out to 1.170 (which doesn't leave much bullet in the case) with no problems whatsoever. Have loaded a batch of brass 10 times to a 175PF with no split cases...so I can't say the "overworks the brass" argument should be of any concern
Leadpilot
Yes. Yes. It eliminates bullet "setback". No cons that I've noticed. Never seen any ill effects on brass. I have seen a LOT of ill effects caused by NOT using one. Ditto
hankdiesel
I use a U die and also use one shot and have had zero issues...I still case gauge...
Steve RA
Standard Lee die will size lower than most and is only .001 larger than the U die. (So I've read - never measured them myself).
jlo86cj
They also seem to do a better job of eliminating the Glock bulge.
Sarge
Do you use it? YES Do you think it is necessary? YES, WITH CERTAIN BRASS Pros? NO SETBACK WORRIES Cons? NONE Does it over work brass? NOT FROM WHAT I SEE
eisenhow
Yes I never had a problem with poly coated lead. When I switched to Montana Gold I had lots of issues with mixed brass and the thumb test. The u-die is now part of my regular process.
vixty
I use a lee fs die so I don't see the benefit of the u die since they're basically the same.
Slidestop
Yes. With that "coke bottle" effect, I don't see setback ever happening.
biglou13
vixty arent all lee pistol dies FS full length sizing?
RPatton
Full length just means you are sizing most of the case. Some full length will size more than others by design. A once through die or a Case Pro are the only 2 ways I know to full length size brass.
Sarge
I use a lee fs die so I don't see the benefit of the u die since they're basically the same.Udie is a thousandth tighter. LEE Udies and EGW Udies are essentially the same though

vtecpaoche
Yes. I had quite a few rounds not pass the case gauge test due to the glock bulge. U-die fixed that.
RePete
I have one but I prefer to use my CasePro100.
rdinga
My Dillon dies work just fine. However I will confess to purchasing the u die like a fisherman buying a new lure....its still new in the wrapper.
noexcuses
yes in 9mm and 40. no cons that I can think of.
