jjw
Hey guys, looking to get into IDPA shooting, and I'm not sure which vest to buy. Can you guys please help me choose one? I really want it to be fast and easy to clear, I also don't want it to catch on my gun and mags. Here is what I'm looking at - Option 1: http://www.fleetfarm...CFQnonAodnUYA4Q Option 2: http://www.cabelas.c...CFQ2znQodB2MAUg Option 3: http://www.motorcycl...CFQjOnAodyC0ABA I feel like those are heavy enough to really offer good and fast concealed draws. Which way do y'all vote? those dont even look comfortable i use the cablea's tac vest its in the mens clothing area. it is long enuff to cover the weapon. up to size 5-x i used the 511 because at 1 time i was a big military distb till i went to woolrich like their clothing and sell a ton dont like their vest and they wont re-design. t/t them at every shot show. no 1 cares small issue fora huge nice company. 511- heavy hot woolrich run small careful there cabella's run true to size good pockets good cost i use it and pay retail. (that sucks) but its the best for long term use cheers jjw

Classic_jon
Another vote for Armadillo. The difference in cost between a custom made one and one off the shelf is tiny, and you can get it the way you want it. Mine has the mesh back and is really great in the Texas heat. http://www.armadilloconcealment.com/
Carnifex
I ordered one from Competitive Concealment after watching this youtube review: It hasn't come in yet but I'll try to give my observations once it does.

Check them out not the cheapest just the best . and over all i found them to be quite fair on pricing..
bigdawgbeav
That seems a little.......ummm......festive. Plus I am pretty big around so I need something with lots of room. Are there any Plus size vests out there for us big fellas? King Size Direct had vests. Just checked their site and see nothing. You could try this: http://www.kingsizedirect.com/large-size/Button-Down-Gauze-Cotton-Vest.aspx?PfId=225361&DeptId=23998&ProductTypeId=1&PurchaseType=G&pref=ps&StyleNo=1762 But this is the vest I have:

Craig N
I agree with FCB - those you listed seem too short. Not sure how stiff they'd be, too. The most popular vests for IDPA seem to be the 5.11 Tactical and the Woolrich Tactical. I have the 5.11 Tactical, but my next vest will be one from Armadillo Concealment - made to order in the USA, and an active supporter of the sport. Becky is great. She even took the time to explain to me why I was mistaken about the vest not meeting in the front. It's super fast and I recommend she product to everyone. uncledoc
I plan to wear an Allen Skeet and Trap vest with mesh backing as it gets hot here in TX......I found it for $40 at Dicks Sporting Goods.
alma
5.11 has a new tactical "covert" vest that doesn't look like the traditional "shoot me first" vests. The pockets are all internal and the chest pockets work with the backup belt system. It has two large zipper pockets for your hands where I temporarily inserted some large cardboard panels to improve the rigidity of the vest for draws and reloads. It even had two one inch pockets on the inside of the vest on either side of the zipper in the front that as far as I can tell are purpose built for adding weight to the corners of the jacket to help it to swing out of the way when you toss them back for a draw or mag change. I haven't shot an IDPA match with it yet but so far I am very happy with the purchase and pretty impressed and think they must have had IDPA in mind when they made it. Here is one review that has a picture of the vest: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2013/04/14/5-11-tacticals-covert-vest/
v1911
I just replace my 5.11 vest with one made by Becky from Armadillo Concealment. I like the no flap option on the pockets to help stow mags or stage props in a hurry. Got the mesh back as this will be my summer vest unless I order another for cold weather use. Not the cheapest option out there, but I see it as an investment that will last years. Splurge a bit and get something custom fitted.

joetsui
Get the Woolrich vest. I've had mine for 8 plus years, very durable. The vests in your link are too short for IDPA. The vest has to cover your firearm when arms are raised to shoulder height.

robport
I just use one of the standard vests from Bass Pro shop. Around 27-30 bucks or so. It was a lot more comfortable than the 90 buck 5.11.

v1911
While some vests are better than others for this sport, as long as you practice, the difference is trivial.
