    Just take my money already!!
  2. Interesting. I wouldn't mind plastic basepad extensions. It'd be a little cheaper and I feel bad when the aluminum ones get all scuffed up!
  3. The Midway bag is a good imitation of the Shooter's Connection tournament bag. Maybe a little less stiffness on the side panels but it's held up great for the past year. About half the price and still supporting the right industry players, but I'm sure it's a little less quality. That said, Shooter's Connection is a more focused supporter of USPSA and pistol sports.
  4. I wasn't expecting any replies since you asked for the "kind and wise" CZ experts!
  5. Minor scoring hurts. Unless you are very accurate at speed consistently I'd pick to run major. For IPSC you might find more courses with Production division with 14 rounds per position, but I think most are supposed to be limited to 8 rounds per position. If you regularly have "clean-up" shots then you may end up with more slide lock mag changes. In the end, the major scoring is the real benefit. I've been shooting USPSA Limited minor and I can't go fast enough to make up for my C's.
  6. Looks good! Good camera and the striker fire trigger must have a pretty good break. You cleaned up those plate racks from a decent distance pretty darn good (especially for your first match with the gun!). Thanks for sharing!
  7. "A gun is a great disrupter of the natural order."

  8. And I thought I was the only one with that dream...
  9. Thanks for the tips here! I sanded down some Operator 2's quite a bit for my desk jockey soft hands and the color was not affected at all. Very glad I did... I almost went out and bought another pair of custom grips!
  10. High was -8 F yesterday. Today a balmy 14 degrees but 30 mph winds and blowing snow. Coming home from work there were a couple times everyone just slowed down to a stop with zero visibility. Amazed there were no accidents. Crazy Iowa weather.
  11. I know CZC does it - it'd be worth asking them for a quote then you can balance the pros and cons of doing it yourself or having another handy gunsmith do it. A guy in my local club did his and his wife's TS, but he didn't refinish them just shiny metal. So there's another cost to add on top of the filing down the checkering if you want it pretty again.
  12. Just ran two different test groups (20 rounds each) of WST over the chrono today pushing Xtreme 200gr RN. 5" barrel 1.250" OAL. (+/- .005) 4.8gr = 155PF 4.9gr = 165PF Ambient temp was 34 degrees. I didn't expect that much of an increase in .1 grain. Also min/max velocities range was about +/-50fps, not quite as consistent as I'd hoped. I think I'll bump up to 5.0gr and see how that feels for a hundred rounds or so.
  13. At least now I understand this combination a little better: http://czcustom.com/cz75sp01tsshadowls40.aspx
  14. Nice setup with the cameras, targets and, of course, gun and ammo! I think longer range pistol shooting will be getting more popular...
  15. My guess is that the original recoil spring has about 5K rounds and needs to be replaced. I recall 9mm recoil spring is 11lbs in the TS, but do a quick search on here to confirm. I think CZ USA is a little vague on their descriptions...
  16. Agree with the simplified logistics to alleviate confusion (I learned reloading from a software engineer and his reloading room was, uh, creatively organized). I did some quick research about house fires when I was trying to decide how to store reloading components. I figure that's my highest risk event. The closets burn the hottest (piles of fluffy fabric or cleaning agents provide an easy ignition and fuel), the walls of the basement are the coolest place (less ignition material). I ended up with storage tubs to keep everything dry, stored on the concrete floor along the outer foundation wall. Easy to access right next to my bench and the tub slides under the storage shelves easy enough. I just realized Colorado probably doesn't typically have basements, but I think the same principle would apply.
  17. My first thought was the 8# recoil spring seems a little light for a 1911 shooting 9mm? I thought the typical spring weight for 9mm in a full-size 1911 was 12 lbs? (38 super is 13 lbs, factor load 45's are 16 lbs) If you're concerned about frame life, maybe go a pound or two higher with the recoil spring?
  18. The beavertail will do that on almost any gun if you're shooting a 500 round day! I've heard some guys taking training classes with high round counts will tape up their hands, especially multi-day classes with 1000+ round counts. I bookmarked the stuff they were recommending, Nexcare Absolute Waterproof First Aid Tape, 1" x 5 yds-1 roll (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GAVJ6I/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2TT4QDIWPSVN2&coliid=I2CHKDCYG8GHF0)
  19. Just saw a shelf full of it at my LGS... Bought their max of 2#'s per person per day. So hopefully that was part of a larger shipment...
  20. +1 this pistol has caught my interest too, just for the ability to build a while new gun with that FFL trigger and striker group. Very interesting.
  21. +1 on CZC from the start, but it will take away from knowing what you've spent your money on without feeling a stock factory with no upgrades... the difference is amazing.
  22. +1 on the Wilson Tactical holster - very good quality. I needed to transition my draw stroke since SS rides higher than my Limited setup when I jump between divisions. Also, I've found that while the felt liner is good for protecting the finish, unless you get a straight draw the felt liner tends to add friction and slow down the draw. There's always a trade off. For me, I've been trying to keep my 1911 closer to "safe queen" status (my Limited division scores make me feel better about myself!), so protecting the finish is a high priority.
  23. Glad to see you got one!! It is absolutely a lot of fun for the money all things considered...even after a couple of gamer upgrades. I've got a Czechmate magwell I didn't end up using if you don't go the CZC magwell and extended base pads/springs route. Or some factory base pads I trimmed if you want to see how those fit the czc magwells.
  24. You only hate them until someone sends you a personal check that bounces AFTER you've already shipped them the item. Something to be valued about certified funds, especially when dealing with larger transactions. I prefer a certified check from a bank before a USPS money order. I'd take a personal check for something under $50, but anything over that is my threshold of financial pain if the buyer's money turns to vapor. Everyone's threshold of budget pain is different...
