  1. Catching up on the forum, I used 124gr fmj rn over 4.0gr each time. Definitely use 5.5mm (or less if you file it down) front sight with the tactical rear sight. I'm not steady enough in gloves and the cold (it was 10 degrees and windy last time out) to do tests for accuracy at 25 yards...but I got some good groups at my 8-10 yards.
  2. In that price range you might look at the sig 1911's, they have a good variety of styles and options. My buddy has one that has impressed me, but he doesn't use it in competition (yet).
  3. I measured the previously installed front sight at 5.45mm. I filed it down to 5.40mm and roll pinned it in. Took some 124gr FMJ's to the range and POI is spot on POA with the tactical rear sight that CZC sells. It was just a mis-order of a 6.5mm front sight from CZC on my part, but thought it'd be worth sharing since I overlooked the full-size vs compact sight differences.
  4. Very interested. Let alone another range with faculties to have a good major match!
  5. Yes, the POI is behind the red FO front sight. I've heard that referred to as the combat sight setup, especially with the FO front sight (put the red dot on the center mass). I prefer the POI just above the front blade so I don't need to drop my sight picture after the shot to confirm the impact point. Once I get the math sorted it, I'll see if I can lower the front sight enough to get me where I want to. Otherwise, expect to see a listing in the Classifieds for a nice P-01 with everything but a hammer job!
  6. They did a Wounded Warrior fund-raiser at the Brownell's range last summer. I didn't go but a couple guys I work with were able to participate. I found the range on google maps, probably not condusive to a major. Mostly bowling lane shooting, one long berm (500-600 yards or so), one 100 yard berm, two 50 yard berms, and some trap ranges. https://www.google.com/maps/preview/place/Montezuma,+IA/@41.5757579,-92.6772005,590m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m2!3m1!1s0x87ef60a2b526f053:0xc5ccf3408ec450f4?hl=en I think the Green Valley Rifle & Pistol Club in Hallsville, MO is probably the best facility for a major in the upper midwest. Same place as the Bianchi Cup (I went last year to spectate). Edit: I just read through their range rules and it looks like they only have a 200-yard range that may be relatively limited. I'm not as familiar with the rifle ranges there, but they do have a number of bays for handguns.
  7. Excellent. That's the formula I was looking for. I'll make a range trip for some precision measurements of distance to target and see if it's even possible to correct the sights. I got the P-01 used so maybe it's something more fundamentally wrong with the setup. I'll let you know what I find!
  8. Good stuff here, tagging for my own reference!
  9. Just replaced some aftermarket tritium sights on my P-01 that were shooting about 2 inches low at 7-8 yards. I purchased and had a gunsmith install these (not sure about the weird links to CZC right now): 1) https://02b665f.netsolstores.com/CZ-Tactical-Rear-Sight.aspx (part #10100, Tactical Rear Sight Standard Dovetail, states on the 75 it will require the 6.5mm front sight, perhaps this assumes the full size 75 and not the compact?) 2) https://02b665f.netsolstores.com/CZ-Fiber-Optic-Front-Sight-6.5mm-0.100-with-1.0mm-FibreRod.aspx (part #10409, FO front sight 6.5mm-0.100 with 1.0mm fiber rod) After installing the new sights I'm still getting POI 2 inches low from POA at 7-8 yards. I'm guessing I got the wrong front sight? Any insight here? I assuming I should purchase a new front sight at the height to 6.0mm or even 5.5mm height. I prefer the POI just above the POA for the game we play. I searched the forum for a post I recall reading a few months ago on that concept, but I wasn't able to find it. Thanks in advance for humoring me...
  10. Great topic! There is a lack of proper faculties in Iowa (mostly bowling lane type ranges instead of bays - blame the natural terrain and lack of investment in private ranges). The nearest I've found for major matches is the green valley rifle & pistol club just north of Columbia, MO (they also host the Bianchi Cup). I think Brownell's had a decent range about an hour east of Des Moines too. I'd love to see something get started up. There seems to be a growing population of non-hunters that are getting into the industry for competition. Just need to keep entry costs low to get the younger guys into the game. Prize tables would be a good draw too!
  11. Finally a close up of what I'm talking about. The norm?
  12. Good input guys. I didn't realize the P-01 had a coating since I'm used to my 75B and TS barrels. I see that CZC polishes the barrel hood on their fancy top-end SDP's but I wasn't sure if anyone had any bad experiences trying to do the same? I should take out stock in Dremel according to all of us do-it-yourself-ers on this forum (and in this industry)!
  13. I picked up a used p-01 and the previous owner applied some thing like cerakote to the barrel exterior on the hood and the lugs and the length of the barrel. It's a grey color. Not sure if it was intended as a finish to make a slightly tighter fit our if they want to have it more stealthy for concealment? I dunno. What are your Opinions on removing the coating (some shiny spots are showing through after a couple hundred rounds)? I'll attach a picture later.
  14. Good posting,I had the same issue on my new starline 9mm brass. Thanks fir the link to their faq,I didn't think to go back to the source, figured it was the machine.
  15. -15 degrees at noon here today. I was out last week in 5 degrees for about an hour, needless to say not much time spent drawing from a holster!
  16. Just worked up some 124 grain flat nose plated (extreme) at 1.08 OAL with 4.0 grains and I was impressed with the low recoil in my CZ P-01 and Tactical Sports. I had some Fiocci 124 grain round nose plated and Freedom Munitions 124 grain round nose plated for comparison, and my reloads were noticeably (almost laughably) less recoil. That said, I don't have a chrono to test more fully yet.
  17. Then they realize they should have just started with CZ!
  18. Mtwashington, let me know if you'd like to sell me your shadow night when your shadow custom comes in! I might be in your area for the Worlds in May.
  19. Looks good! Bring it asking when you owe me that dinner!
  20. Way to go Jeff O! Do I get some commish on that sale? )
  21. Ah, he's been around longer than I'd have guessed! Just saw him at Bianchi last year and was impressed...the pros make it look too easy.
  22. Do you guys make this same style that fits a P-01 slide cut? I just noticed the shadow 2 sight is only for the shadow line rear sight cuts (looks like the rear is a little lower?).
  23. I'm quite new to the sport, so no clue who has done what in the pro shooter realm. But what if Doug Koenig shot IPSC? That could be an interesting matchup, especially in open.
  24. It is. SP01 Shadow with tritium night sights. otherwise same as SP01 Shadow. Thanks eerw. Sorry if my post sounded critical. I just re-read it and it sounds way harsher than I meant it. I was honestly just curious if I was missing some difference. I think it's cool you guys offer different options kind of packaged up as a new gun. Shadow Night is a cool name too. +1 on the name "shadow night", if only that was printed on the slide!
  25. Holy jeebus, hard chromed beauty queen!
