  1. So, IDPA guy, you can shoot your gun from IWB appendix concealment, if you declare yourself as Open, Limited, or L10, Holster position is not restricted. Concealment is not against the rules, although the match director can review your holster. And you can play all your IDPA cover and reloads, because there is no rule against it. Now the rest of the squad will be "like what?" but you are good to go. I do that every few matches with my carry guns, just to stay sharp. My scores, of course, are nowhere near my regular competition guns.
  2. Bret, I know what the rules say, but I was referring to a thread.
  3. I thought I saw a thread here earlier where Troy commented on the spinner to the effect of 2 plates attached to each other.
  4. For USPSA, they are scored as 2 plates, which just happen to be attached to each other.
  5. Boots on ground, eyes on case. I use a little music stand light, but InLine Fab makes a really nice press mounted light. By the way, the Square Deal cannot double. Once the handle is about 1/3 the way down, long before the powder drop, the index pawl is already over center and cannot go backwards. It only goes one way. I've my 550 since 1986 and my SD since 2001.
  6. Looks like Texas has 28 clubs http://www.idpa.com/compete/clubsearch?stateProvinceId=44&countryId=1&search=
  7. Whatever OAL it takes for the round to plunk. I've loaded anywhere between 1.175" and 1.050", depending on bullet weight and shape.
  8. Most guys run fixed sights, and lighter bullets print lower (because they are faster) than heavier bullets. just adjust your load.
  9. want, that device is legal. However the holster must still be positioned per the rules, or declare yourself Open, Limited or L10, the holster position is not restricted. I herniated 3 discs back in 1988, took 18 months off and started shooting again, and within 2 years was back up to 4-6 matches a month, including 3 gun. Steel Challenge was invented by Mike Dalton and Mike Fischman in 1981 as a way to practice transitions for IPSC, 4 years before USPSA. There is no movement involved and no setting of steel because it is all static. You can also run rimfire pistol or rifle. Another option for USPSA is PCC. I started running the carbine after breaking my left wrist 2 years ago.
  10. 141.25 mm, to be exact....

Frags happen all the time in competition, I've been to urgent care twice in the last 10 years. The worst was a 40 cal lead frag that went into my forearm about 5mm deep and took 20 minutes to dig it out and 3 stitches. That is why you never take your glasses off at the range.

If you are getting frags from steel, the angle is wrong. Cowboys, SASS, only shoot steel. And Steel Challenge only shoots static steel. Your match directors need to look at the setup, not the power floor. USPSA Major is 165 and there is plenty enough steel. It has to be far enough away, and set right.

What venue requires a 120 power floor? That's not a sanctioned event, like USPSA/IDPA?
  14. Anyone can shoot fast, but not everyone can see fast. And low splits are not the answer, fast transitions are. That's why Dalton and Fishcman invented the Steel Challenge to get everyone tuned up for IPSC back in 1981.
  15. This is USPSA/IPSC, not IDPA. Ask the IDPA guys on their forum...
  16. I run 124 Bayous over 3.4 grs of TG at 1.100" making 129 PF out of a OEM G17 for USPSA . Lots of guys run 147s/160s also. For Steel Challenge, you want the lightest and fastest bullet because there is no power floor.
  17. You don't need to be a USPSA member, but it's easier to get classified. It takes at least 4 different ones.
  18. Tires, you will only know by measuring from a chrono out of your gun. If you fail to make Power Floor at a sanctioned USPSA match, you can shoot the rest of the match, but your scores will not be posted....
  19. Everyone who shoots should get a baseline blood lead level. Mine got up to 28 shooting USPSA outdoors 5 times a month running Bear Creek Moly bullets. I switched to Bayou coated, and it dropped to 8 in four months, then down to 6 in 6 months, about the same as for guys shooting FMJ's and JHPs. There is still lead from the lead styhpnate in the primer, but 99% of lead comes from the gun exhaust you breathe in, and if you RO allot, all the other shooters gun exhaust. Lead cannot go thru your skin, and if you just happen to handle steel during setup, and forget to wash your hands, that fractional amount will go right thru you. While spent primers may look nasty, the lead that was there is completely oxidized during ignition. You may have thought you had lead poisoning, but there should have been other symptoms to go with it. Severe migraine headaches, extreme sensitive to light, throwing up, diarrhea, black lips, black finger nails. Over 60 and you would be put in the hospital for chelation, which takes up to 5 days. Don't do this at home, because chelation rips out all the heavy metals, including potassium. Shooting cast lead, shooting indoors, shooting 2,500 rounds a month, yea, you'll get some lead. Shooting coated or plated or FMJs, outside, 200 rounds a month, no, you would be around a 2, if that. Casting lead does not present a problem as lead has to get to over 1,200 degrees to vaporize, and it melts at only 625 degrees. A lead panel will also test for mercury and arsenic. So get yourself tested and then you will know.
  20. The Power Floor for USPSA and IDPA, 125,000 (bullet weight times velocity). A 115 would have to go over 1,100 fps.
  21. Anytime a shooter is DQ'd. the rule that was violated must be noted. Was that the case?
  22. You need to contact Dillon. The pawl adjustment is set from the factory.
  23. Actually you can run your IWB appendix rig in USPSA as long as you declare that you are Open, Limited or L10 Division because holster position is not restricted. You can also run concealed, because there is no rule against it, or advantage to it. And you can even use pretend cover and engage sequentially and tactically and use IDPA reloads because there is no rule against it or advantage to it.....
