  1. Depending on bullet design I typically go with 1.50" on 200gr FP/HP bullets. Go with the cannelure. SAAMI Max is 1.615, but I like to stay slightly below that.
  2. The issue with a low ride ambi is that it may tend to get in the way on the trigger finger side. You could try a low, but most guys running those like single sided. May want to consider a wide ambi (Ed Brown makes a good one) and trim down the offhand side some. Just food for thought.
  3. Looks pretty darn nice. Just curious, what does it weigh?
  4. I have a couple of these older (discontinued) WC full tungsten guide rods and they are every bit of 3 1/4oz just for the rod. Yes, they are 3/8" and requires oversize springs, which Wolff still carries. These are very weighty... 5oz with a spring & small collar on it!
  5. EGW quality is outstanding. IMO, the other top notch kit now is Harrison. Can't go wrong either way.
  6. It depends on PF. 16# is always a safe answer. Test out a 14# and see if you like how it functions and returns to target. Wolff trial pak is a good suggestion.
  7. I prefer ambi safeties on competition 1911/2011. Not necessary for everybody, but I use them. My grip is thumb on safety, even weak hand.
  8. Some mag tubes may not transition as easily with the stock catch , which has minimal factory fit. Take a little off the ramp on the end of the mag catch lobe until ALL mags insert smoothly with a firm click. Remember you can always take more off later so go easy. Then polish up the reworked area. You may still prefer a lighter (or clipped) spring in addition. If you clip, smooth out the end of the cut spring so it does not bind.
  9. All work pretty well in all of my 2011's as long as they are 1.160"+ Going to say jacketed for best feeding & accuracy. Plated feeds next best.. then coated. Coated have always proven more accurate than plated for me. All depends upon the barrel.
  10. Congratulations on the new arrival, dad! Not aware of a commercial source for 40 Minor over SAAMI OAL, sorry. Roll my own. Here is another good option for Major 169PF at 1.175": https://atlantaarms.com/products/40-s-w-180gr-jfp-long-1-175-oal-major.html
  11. Ooooooh hate when that happens! Wishing you an smooth uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery, SiG Lady.
  12. +1 mostly 3Gun, but some are Steel Challenge & ESP. Bushing barrel 2011 is a multi-sport player, I'd keep that in mind.
  13. Froggy didn't work for me either. I wanted to like it. The Froggy fans just kept telling me to put it on and then wipe it all off. Followed the directions and gave it multiple tries, but whatever was left congealed over time and also slowed down in cold weather. It didn't get in the FP channel, but it got sticky inside a clean gun just sitting in the safe. No bueno, Froggy. I like BreakFree CLP and M1. Weapon Shield, Ballistol, EEZOX, and others are all fine if you just use them.
  14. Participating in USPSA will get you gunned down like a dog in the street, right? Are you allowed to shoot IDPA without tactical gear on? Can it be in colors other than just black? Hey, enjoy IDPA, USPSA, Steel Challenge, Bianchi, 3Gun, Action Pistol...whatever game/sport you want to try. I think safe shooting experience is good and more is even better. Go out there, be safe and have fun!
  15. Wolff (variable) 12# recoil /19# MS 180gr loads at 168 - 170PF

    Anatomy of a pew

    It's all so clear now.
  17. Good luck in the upcoming season, JOT! Ask the locals about IDPA clubs/events near you too.
  18. Welcome to the forums, Kenj59!
  19. 10.5 Match Disqualification – Unsafe Gun Handling Examples of unsafe gun handling include, but are not limited to... 10.5.9 Failure to keep the finger outside the trigger guard during loading, reloading, or unloading. Exception: while complying with the “Make Ready” command to lower the hammer of a gun without a decocking lever, or while initially loading a revolver with a spurless hammer. Does not seem to me to be a 10.4 situation. Match DQ
  20. Add me to list of 'don't do it.' Let's see how bad it looks. I have touched up brushed stainless guns with a grey 3M blending pad, but don't know that I'd do that for hard chrome.
  21. Welcome! Good luck campaigning the new Q5 in Open.
