  1. Don't think that OAL is the issue at all. My guess is sacked out mag springs or too much case lube. For the sake of argument. What do the feedlips measure front & back?
  2. 12# recoil/19# main, no gummibear, 5" 2011, 40 Major (172PF)
  3. Patch on a standard bore brush works nicely. A "super" tampon huh.
  4. Nice looking load now in the follow up pic. The GR-X is nice, but it is an extra process. Rollsizer looks sweet, but I really haven't needed one. Some rip on the LEE FCD, but this is a handy tool to have. Unless you are using way oversized bullets and thick brass you should generally not have an issue. I have on occasion used a U-Die for jacketed, but not for coated, lubed or even plated bullets. The FCD is helpful and easy to incorporate.
  5. Pen oilers (decent ones) with the screw cap & O-rings. Pen oilers inside a snack bag, inside a small gasketed tackle style box, stowed upright in range bag. Works best with 5W-20W. 30W works too, just takes more patience.

    Trojans

We are talking about guns, right? STI always did a nice job with the Trojan line. Quality parts, well fit and decent triggers. I would not hesitate to buy a used one in nice condition. The older models with the horse head rollmark seems to be more sought after as supposedly more time was spent on fit. Honestly, I think there isn't enough of a difference between years other than the rear sight cut type and that um...less classy rollmark. Wouldn't stop me. Just find one in beautiful condition.
  7. He was so fun to watch as Bond and we always looked forward to seeing his films even after his 007 run. RIP Sean Connery.
  8. I ran Sport Pistol for 40S&W 2011's (long fed better) and G35. My G35 load COL I shortened to 1.150" & reduced charge weight slightly. 4.5gr Sport Pistol for ACME180 & Bayou180, avgs 169-171PF, stock G35 barrel.
  9. High up on the dirty list, IMO. Titegroup has a large following, but it was a hot sticky mess for me. I probably could have cleaned up the loads a little bit by upping the pressure, but didn't need the speed for Minor use. The muzzle and front sight would get covered with gummy carbon deposits. The heat and the goo killed FO inserts quickly too.
  10. Count me in the barely double digit SD range most times. Mixed brass on a progressive, honestly don't worry too much about maintaining a single digit SD. I agree that <10 would be nice, but I gave up worrying about it unless its uncharacteristically out of line. I don't shoot Bullseye. Build a PF margin in, make decent ammo and practice more. Pretty sure my shooting is the weak link, not my SD.
  11. Buy the EGW version (made by LEE sold by EGW) which is only 0.003" undersized. Yes, it cost more. I find the standard less expensive LEE branded U-Dies are too undersized.
  12. I second the Zeiss packaged wipes. Convenient, you can add wipes to every shooting bag.
  13. Still browse through the NRA magazine and Frontsight, some issues more than others. I do like the new product info. The "tests" and shootout comparisons I glance through, but don't take very seriously.
  14. I like the Dawson pads. Good fit, good price. Would caution on spraying/lubing mags or magwell because it attracts fine particulate. Most venues have plenty of gravel dust, grit/sand or dusty soil surfaces. I'm mostly a 2011/1911 metal magazine guy and new to Glock. Don't you get a gritty mess with lubed/slicked up mags?
  15. Plan A: Buy/reload lower PF ammo, match recoil spring to load. Have her shoot the G34 much more to get acquainted. Sounds like her mind is closed to it, though. Whether you realize it or not. Been there... got the T-shirt. Plan B: Get her an XDM 5.25" Elite 9mm. She liked the grip on the XD, right? Explain the handicap she will have trying to use a subcompact at 20yrds. Keep the 34 for yourself since I'm sure you already have competition holster(s) and a bunch of magazines.

    Glock 34 Trigger

Who has time to practice? GM is just one more Visa bill away! Glock has many positive qualities, but the trigger quality is not going to be as nice as a well prepped 1911/2011/CZ75.
  17. Ah the oil v. grease thread huh? Posted this before and I'll post it again. I'll play. Wet is best. A light viscosity fully synthetic oil always works on 1911's. For me, grease (thin full synthetic) is reserved for aluminum framed or high mileage guns in warm months. Clean them when they need it. Oil helps float away debris, but not as well as actually field stripping & cleaning it. If you decide to use grease...you must clean often. I prefer to grease the rails of high mileage guns in hot weather, but that is my preference. Oil always works. A lighter viscosity full synthetic grease on the rails of well used pistols during the warm weather months has worked fine. New and/or tight guns may short stroke with grease or may tend to stumble in colder weather, though.
  18. I strongly prefer 1911/2011 triggers by far over Glock. Think you need to shoot a few more well prepped 1911 triggers. 1911 trigger qualities can be improved to be so much better than what a Glock trigger can ever be. I can appreciate Glock, but the trigger is not really a Glock strong point, thus all the aftermarket options to make it more palatable. Sounds like you have a very good Glock trigger and you are likely very familiar with the qualities of it. Plenty of other positives for Glock, but trigger ain't it. Stock RIA sears, hammers (hooks), discos and triggers aren't that bad, but they aren't that great either. You may really like a 1911 with a nicely done slight rolling break using high quality fire control parts.
  19. Such sad news to hear. Our condolences on the loss of your wife, Colt22man. Enjoy every nice day and every moment for her. Keep family and friends close.
  20. Used to use lubed lead and it worked fine, if sized correctly. As soon as coated was available I went that direction. Works great. Still needs to be sized correctly, but no rastaman haze on a humid, windless day or build up on dies. Have old stock of lubed lead that I may only get into if really desperate.
  21. +/- 5/100th of a grain? The practical effect of that is nada. Yes, you are being too anal.
  22. Some slight pause at peak is normal, but how long is the question. Here are a few things I'd test: Try the next heavier weight recoil spring. You want to minimize that pause, but don't want to see a dip below POA. Add more weight to the frame. Tense your biceps, triceps, shoulders for more control during recoil. Consider changes to the load you shoot. Lower PF (if possible) or use a faster powder with a heavier bullet.
