  4. Thank you for all you do, Brian. Take some time and enjoy yourself!
  5. Welcome to the forum, Adamcw!
  6. Won it? Wow, nice! Welcome to the forum, Hellcat.
  7. Interesting discussion. Most folks always thought that a heavier FN bullet was better, but it all depends on what YOU can shoot accurately, quickly. For us mere mortals, I think RC has it covered. Pick a load that works for you and practice, practice, practice.
  8. Thanks for posting the warning and your data, BDB. The differences with some combinations can apparantely be substantial. Did not think it could be that much. Just never know, it needs to be checked. I usually avoid using SPP brass loads for other than practice, but using 6 or 7 different common powders I usually only experienced a ~ 8-15fps loss when using SPP brass with the same load compared to LPP brass. Used mostly FED, WIN, & CCI primers. I bump the powder drop up a tenth in SPP cases to accommodate....may need to rethink that. Another thought... Were you getting good center hits on those SPP?
  9. I run a 12# recoil with a 19# main for 170PF with an Alumabuff. I agree with Mach1, you should try a 11# or 10#. What mainspring are you running now? It is likely too heavy also.

    Prince

Sad news. Reports were that he was battling the flu and was just not feeling well for the last several weeks. Extremely talented guy with a unique style. Amazing performer!
  11. No problem. Determine the MAX OAL for all the chambers you will shoot the load in and then load .02" under the shortest MAX of the bunch. Start there, but you may or may not need to go shorter to facilitate feeding. Test it out in all magazines and chambers. Cycle the load...then shoot a few mags worth in each pistol before you go gung ho production mode.
  12. Hi David, Are you still running a 14# spring with no further damage? Or did you end up fitting a supported plug?
  13. Lee Universal Decapping die. $15, works great, and has the most durable pin.
  14. Adjust & polish the feed lips to .380 - .385 at the font of the mag and .375 - .380 at the rear. This will allow the rounds to exit the mag in a smooth upward manner.
  15. Most embarrassing? Posting it? Hell no. Your post does remind me of way back when I started riding (MTB) clipless. I get to the end of a technical section and everyone is waiting/watching in a group. I clean all the obstacles and come roaring up to the group all cocky...I stop...flail awkwardly and fall over hard. Yup, that guy.
  16. Infection from plugs? Yes, they can harbor bacteria. Give them a good wash... at least after every other use and avoid problems. Good custom molded plugs are very very comfortable to wear, especially for long stretches, but do require regular cleaning.
  17. My 140PF load POI is ~6" higher at 20yrds than the 170PF load POI. Fair diffence.
  18. If you have room run an aluminum buff. Best fix is a properly fit supported hat style reverse plug eventually, though.
  19. Good advice. I have had numerous pairs of custom molded plugs done by several companies. The best result was fit/made by EAR, Inc. done in the above manner and also extend a bit further down into the ear canal than others. Comfortable to wear and work great. My oldest set needs to be recoated, but still works well under external protection when doubling up for anything louder or comp'd.
  20. Pull your top end and observe how the mag catch - mag tube slot interface. Take out the mag catch, disassemble, clean, and inspect. You may have a burr or damage on the catch. Put a small amount of synthetic grease on the spring/catch when you put it back together.

    BE-86

I like BE-86. Seems pretty versatile. Recoil is sharper compared to faster powders with same bullets, but a accuracy was decent. Here are a couple of loads that worked for me: 5.8gr BE-86 with a 180 FMJ makes 172PF 5" bbl at 1.150" 5.3gr BE-86 with a Bayou 180 went 170PF 5" bbl at 1.150"
  22. Govt in 45acp..... 19# main paired with a 14# straight rate recoil spring. The Wolff 14# variable is an outstanding do-all choice, though. .
  23. We have offered up some decent options. I have heard it said, "fear the man with one gun." It is just too damn tempting to build up a quiver of options. Perfection is only the next gun away.
  24. +1 Seems like a good option to me, too. Get em while you can.
