  1. Made his choice I won't honor stupid
  2. Old school (which I'm part) says to shoot a couple hundred hot jacketed loads out fo a new gun to "season" the barrel. Don't know if this really works (but I've usually done it with handloads) Agree with above about keyholes are usually from low velocity Shoot it a bunch to get used to it and let the parts run in together then start chrono and accuracy work
  3. Went 45 with mine for the following reasons My 40 custom SS gun and custom limited guns have never felt smooth to me Splits shooting alphas ONLY at 10, 15 and 20 yard drills, ME !!!!! I can't shoot the 40 any faster than the 45 (using 200gr Bayou with 4.2 WST in 40 nice load) My go to gun has always been a 1911 45, with that said I've been shooting them for 35 + years and last but not least I've got a lot more powder for my 45 load than my 40 load!!!!!!!
  4. Got mine Tuesday nite Nice overall fit and finish First 100 rounds a few failures to feed 2nd almost problem free 1 or 2 FTF Going tonite to put another 100 through it hopefully drip of lube on ext extractor and now it hand cycles nicer from the magazine Accurate = 2 inch or so at 25yds everything is smooth when operated, like someone actually looked at it before they shipped it It has all the EGW parts they say it has it also has the EGW ball disconnector (mine no longer is an 80 series) Shot in a local practice match and other than FTF it handles well and I like the narrow frt sight.
  5. Shot it last night in local practice match. First rounds out of the gun had a couple failure to feeds with long lead ammo End COF went well one failure to feed. Seems like its smoothing out real quick going back to range tonight and will be putting couple of hundred through it to get it up and running. Seems real accurate and smooth to shoot so far
  6. Extraction has never been a problem with the ext. extractor and SIG They've had more problems with the x-5 internal extractor, BUt that can be remedied also I've got a couple of SIG 1911's and just swapped a Beretta 28ga onyx for a "Mad" MAXX 1911. Spent an hour looking it over and taking it apart etc. As much as the shop would let me and they were very Gracious!!! Seems like a real nice pistol Bought it at Buffalo Gun Center, Buffalo NY. They had more than one Top notch shop Pro Gun in Victor has them also, another top notch shop in upstate NY with people who know the business
  7. Clays if loading long 1.180 to 1.200 WST is real soft Tite Group is quick if you like a fast cycle feel WSF will work I use Unique as a 180 practice load, cause I have a bunch of it, though it is accurate and comfortable to shoot
  8. Get on the alliant web site and use the starting load.
  9. I've personally used Bayou's and SnS bullets in both gloch's and H&K's which have poly rifling and have had no problems with either type of gun using either companies coated bullets. I've also shot several thousand plain lead bullets through Gloch's with no problems
  10. 4.6 to 4.8 WSF may be able to go lighter with 124gr SnS coated WSF is real nice for matches where they have dark or flash light stages, since it has almost no muzzle flash. Power pistol is a very aggressive powder, great for carry loads but lots of muzzle flash and loud.
  11. You may need to put a small shim (piece of plastic) on the left side of the sear spring and under the MSH. One of mine needed this to make the spring stay in place. That particular gun has not been taken apart much but it was the one that exhibited the same problems you stated in your first post.
  12. I run my 9's with old 38 super mags and CMC guts and they run just fine. When I want to shoot super I change the bbl. and use the same mags
  13. It's either 4-40 or 5-40 thread and "should" tell you the difference or specify that when you order.
  14. Agreed with carhart Dawson will replace it no charge.
  15. Canyon Creek makes one its a nice product may still need fitting Or just notch the STI mags back a little toward the middle of the mag on the side the para catch is a little rear, toward the center of the grip on the side, than the STI mag catch is P.S. YES I use STI mags in my Para 16-40
  16. Several 1911's and 2011's that have multiple slides / barrel assy's Just fit the slide and barrel without making changes to the receiver. May require trying a couple of slides until you/your gunsmith gets one you're happy with the fit or make changes to the slide rails.
  17. Order a custom built then buy a used Edge, by the time your gun is built you have the edge the way you like it so you can appoint your custom build with the final things to keep them the same.i.e. safety, grip safety, magwell, grip tape or texture etc. all the stuff that is done near the end of the build. and you'll already have a back up gun Remember its only ,money!!!!!!
  18. I've shoot my x-5 with my 226 conversion for years and not had any problems and switched the slides back and forth again with no problems, I also wouldn't call SIG and tell them I was having a problem with my 226 slide on my X-5!!!! I encourage you to do what makes you comfortable though
  19. Be aware if your going to put it on an Alum framed (regular) 226 it may have problems with striping the screw holes. The SS on the X5 will be fine

    226 grips

I've found some of the rosewood grips are small and some very large. Talk to guys at your club or that you shoot with they may have sets around you can try! JAT
  21. Call Dawson they'll fix you up and take the new one back no problem.
  22. Shooting a dot is a blast! you've got enough tech, info from these guys and I agree with them in general. I shoot open during the summer and SS in the winter and spring with some open mixed in Ya I can draw and shoot out to 7-8 yards as fast with anything BUT the open gun makes you think differently and react differently cause you know everyone is cranking. Have fun with it and really focus hard on the target its what makes open faster, if you look at your dot you won't pick up near as much speed. Your eyes will go back to the sights when you shoot a SS or limited gun. I did put green rods in my sights, I caught myself shooting at steel with just the rod (frt. sight) at the SS National's this year w/o putting it into the notch!!! the green helps me cue myself to do that. Enjoy the ride in open jcc7x7
  23. New gun might want to ask the smith what he recommends to break it in. Bedell says use a gun lube for the first 1000 or so rounds then go to Mobil 1 or similar. Just a thought
  24. weigh it with a mag in it before you put a FLGR in. I had to take them out of 2 of my 9's to make weight for SS. I've worked on both and for the money their both good guns. STI may be finished a little nicer and some internal parts are better but not 400 better. Try and get both in your hands think you may find that the STI is a little smoother but 2000 rounds later that won't matter. SA is a good choice for the money, that said I would probably buy the STI FWIW
