  1. Never been able to get plated bullets to shoot consistently enough for me, especially at farther distances. I retry them every year or so just to keep up. usually get a small amount 100 or 200 but always the same result. Yes I have messed with the crimp a bunch of different amounts from none to .0004 tight. Zero to 20 yds they seem fine but the farther they go the less impressed I am. With that said I shoot Bayou's or SnS HiTek coated and get no leading, almost no smoke and great accuracy FWIW Good fortune finding a great load for your gun!
  2. I shoot the 200 RN from bayou. In both my SS and limited gun. I load them longer than you might be able to in your gun. So I won't bother sharing the load. Different powder any how. I find them to be as accurate as the 180 HAP's and MG's that I used to shoot. Good fortune
  3. Think of trying to paint something with wax or oil all over it. Generally not going to work
  4. Most of use have I believe! Thou I do have a recoil master I'd sell you cheap! LOL
  5. If the slide stop won't come out. grab the slide "hard" and bump the grip forward with your other hand. Similar to if you had a long loaded round in the chamber.
  6. I use 200 Bayou with WST but I believe CFE is slower burning so you're probably just going to have to try both under the timer doing some drills. by the way When you're done with your test let the rest of us know!!!!! good fortune
  7. I like 175 as a mean for Major and 135 for Minor. with that said my 40 loads avg 173 and 45 about 178 at match chrono's minor (only one major chrono match) was 135
  8. Dirty cases "smudging" usually means that there is not a enough pressure being generated to seal the chamber off at the front edge of the case mouth. Which then allows burning.burnt powder to smudge the case usually about half way down. It sows that your load is not over powered
  9. Whatever bullet you like better. I shot 200 gr H&G 68 SWC for over 25 years and about 4 years ago switched to 230 RN cause I couldn't get any 200grs bullets. (Remember that! then it was a bullet shortage) Load 'em and shoot 'em!!!! I've worked up more new loads in the last 5 years than in the 30 before it, because of the shortages.
  10. Montana Gold or HAP are both extremely accurate. I have not had good results with plated BUT I've not spent a ton of time trying to make them work. Seems to me that when Lead and now Hi-Tek coated lead and jacketed are so easy to get to shoot well why should I go through the effort to fight with plated. Cost savings I understand but most of the time coated lead is more cost effective than plated As has been mentioned before they seem to be very crimp sensitive.
  11. Ran it through again at 87 degrees and got 87 degrees, Sunny Same load again from same box Avg 875, SD7, PF 175 again this is with ammo left on dash on way to range (no Air on) then on top of the trash can. Remember USPSA rule book says it has to be stored in the shade. Some guys at my local club have gone minor with WST so they feel the same way about it, they also run at 168 PF. I've made major at every match I've gone to this year and everytime I've chrono'd it. So I'm confident in the load. I always suggest you do your own chrono tests so you have confidence in your load. I've also averaged the three lowest rounds from each time I've chrono'd and those also make Pf by a couple of points.
  12. Y'all know this I'm sure Int, Universal and "Clays" are 3 DIFFERENT POWDERS. I along with 1000's of other people shoot "CLAYS" in 45 , 230gr bullets by the case universal is a fine powder for nine and 40 but usually is very smokey but have not tried it with Hi-tek or jacketed bullets Int. clays I have not used in pistols Hodogon's website has both the other powders listed, CLAYS and Universal Clays (commonly called Universal to cause less confusion) in both 9 and 40 and 45. Lets be safe and make sure we are using the "right" powder. Especially with ones named similarly
  13. Redding RX all range pick up brass unless I know its mine (sharpie marker stripe on base) or any used brass I buy. then load it on my 550 and shoot it. Like others level III & IV matches every round gets hand cycled through the gun from the mags I will be using in the match. Never had a feed issue that way at the match. My Eagle ran anything from factory to 1.200 COL hand loads.
  14. I shoot a 16-40 and any load that is safe in your STI (also had an Eagle that these ran fine in at the same time) will shoot in a PARA at 1.180-1.185. Loaded my Eagle at 1.200 and the Para's chamber (stock) was .010-015. shorter or the leade was different so it wouldn't handle the 1,200. I started loading everything at 1.185 with HAP bullets. Then sold the eagle cause I shot the Para better on the clock,go figure!
  15. Load them with everything else in the 9mm. fortunately have never had a problem good fortune figuring it out
  16. 135 Bayou's or local cast 135's same mold M&P, SIG 226, SIG x-5, and 1911's all shoot them great 1.135 COL 4.2 WSF any SPP good fortune
  17. Because his favorite dry fire drill is done at the range with ammo and live fire practice! Congratulations Rob Leatham
  18. 230 Bayou is the way to go. I'm using clays but the way things are use what you have to get 170-175 PF and enjoy. 200 shot good out of it but reload slow unless you find some 200 RN that will shoot.
  19. 4 out of 8 in my squad were shooting 40's all of us went major. One gent was shooting a 9mm mnor. Had a great squad
  20. My ammo went 2 PF higher at the Nat'l. Using WST which is supposed to be reverse temp. sensitive. It was Saturday after lunch real nice sunny and warm. didn't check temp. but like I said it was nice out. Sorry to all who went minor especially the guys who bought ammo
  21. SS Nat'l would do a chrono check for you the day before you shot. Couple of guys in my squad had theirs checked on Fri. shot on Sat. Yes they did chrono and check their guns on Sat also.
  22. Double check your load data and Get the chrono out
  23. h110 / 296 same powder and great in loads at the top of the spectrum
  24. In the measure Use an old powder can (plastic) and cut the top off and slide it over the measure if you're concerned about the sun etc i.e. Never have had a problem doing this since the 70's (including in a garage in Texas)
  25. Lee 4 die set. Dillon 550 WST 200 WSF or SR4756 180 titegroup 180's jacketed I use a Redding RX die on all the brass I buy "once fired" before it ever sees the dillon. It's a peace of mind thing for me. Load to 1.190 200gr, 180 gr lead bayou's or SnS coated (same coating) different color Load 1.185 180 MG or HAP jacketed They run out of a STI Eagle, Para 16-40 and a custom 1911 40S&W I run dillon dies for my 38 Super Comp and 45 acp, Lee for my 9mm and 40 S&W didn't want to wait for dillon so bought them at a LGS when I went to 38sc and 40 S&W. I've had no problems with the Lee FCD and plain lead or coated lead bullets Good Fortune with your loads and shooting
