  1. Just received and installed the new Dawson Precision Tool-Less Guide Rod in my Staccato P:https://dawsonprecision.com/guiderod...son-precision/Of course, it will need a full function test at the range asap. But my initial opinion is this guide rod is a welcomed modification and awesome product! Polished smooth as glass, and includes a proprietary 13# spring. The ease of take down vs the stock STI retention tool makes disassembly of the top end so much easier!Couple of days after my purchase, I decided to call Dawson for some detailed info concerning the spring weight, etc, as I was concerned why it used a proprietary spring vs a regular Commander spring. Got handed off to Dave himself and he asked me to share this info:With regards to the new Tool-Less guide rod for the Staccato P, and other models, Quote: Designed to fit STI Tactical 4.0, Ranger II, Ranger III, Tactical SS 4.0, Spartan IV, and Staccato P. it starts out as a Commander length 13# spring but has to be shortened since the Stac P and others utilize a 4.15" barrel length vs a Commander's 4.25" length. This spring will work with all SAAMI spec commercial ammo. Recommended replacement is 3,000 rounds in a competition gun; and 5,000 rounds for a range gun.Wolff is manufacturing these springs exclusively for Dawson, and they will be offering a 3-pack of the standard springs along with a 3-pack of different weights for those that want to tailor their springs to specific ammo/power factors. These will retail for under $10.00, and he hopes to have them up on the website today or tomorrow. He has a new video featuring the new guide rod's features and operation. Should be on YouTube very soon.HTHs
  2. I happen to find a local shooter last year that has a decent setup behind his house for using his Ransom Rest. He's been a long time Bullseye Competitor and has only used his rest for 1911 style pistols. I purchased a set of grip panels for the STI/McCormick widebody and we used it with (what I thought) pretty good success. Of course he did the setup and operation. Fast forward to this year and we decide to get together again to test some of my RL1100 ladder loads. Don't think we ever got the STI settled just right as results were all over the place. Michael Ransom shared that I should be treating it like a polymer framed pistol (Glock) and to make sure not to overtighten as it can cause less than desirable results. Said to make sure the mag will drop freely and there was free travel on the trigger return. And that A and C will generally be tighter than B. Trying this gives me the impression that the pistol is just not secured enough in the grip panels to keep the pistol from stringing/poor results. Also, there's only a few threads on the thumb screws when it's "snug" in the grip panels. Any seasoned Ransom Rest users here that can shed some light on the CORRECT way to set up a stock/polymer gripped STI 2011? I sure would appreciate it!
  3. looking for a 2011 in 9mm would like it to be IDPA legal. so far looked at the STI Eagle 5.0 and it appears that the STI maurauder is IDPA legal . ESP class anyway. any ones that I am missing ?
  4. Anyone have one of the new STI DVC Classic single stacks? I see there are some for sale, but I haven't seen any reviews by anyone yet. Thanks.
  5. Excerpt from Brazos Custom Gunwork's Facebook post about it - "DVC L Discontinued by STISTI is discontinuing the DVC L and no direct replacement has been announced. It will soon join the STI Edge as a no longer available but great option for USPSA Limited Division competition. We have only one DVC L left -- 9mm in black with gold. As Dave Skinner (long-time former owner of STI and lifetime USPSA member) would have said, 'when they're gone they're gone...'" It will be interesting to see if there is a new Staccato that will be released to fill this void in their lineup.
  6. I bought a used 2011 and I am trying to find a 9mm barrel but nothing looks quite the same. link to the pictures because I can't post them due to the size limit. https://imgur.com/a/8HFXGFl
  7. I recently tuned my 140mm 40 mags with Taran Tactical Springs, followers and base pads. The SVI tubes loaded to 21, the STI mags loaded to 20. All worked well. Went to tune 170mm 9mm mags all nothing went right. The small taran tactical follower would allow a round to slip past when attempting to load to capacity?? then it was a mess coming back. I tried the standard follower and they worked, but could not get 30 rounds in any STI Mag. I Switched back to the Grams follower, with Taran Tact. Spring and they worked but could not get more than 28 in an STI tube. I have several SVI tubes with Grams followers that take 30? Has anyone else had any luck with the Taran tactical small follower?
  8. Folks: I am going to change the rear sight on my 2011. I need to know if you drive it out left to right or right to left when looking at it from the hammer. Thanks much, Machine
  9. Is a Brand New 2011 STI Trubor for $2325 a good deal? (shipping is included) Thank you!.
  10. Just got a new STI DVC shot about 300 rounds total and worried about the contact that is happening between the barrel and the slide. It looks as though the barrel it’s twisting a bit when it’s unlocked and contacting the slide on both sides of the hood extension of the barrel. I’ve included a picture of where it’s deforming the slide a bit. I contacted STI and they said don’t worry about it, and this is normal with the tight tolerances they have with their fitting. This just doesn’t seem right to me so thought I’d check here with many more guys who have a lot more experience than I do. The gun functions well, no misfeeds, failure to go into battery etc at all.
