  1. Evolve or die seems to be the way 3-gun,2-gun, UML, falling steel etc. is going with the shortage of ammo. Several of our local matches(Non-USPSA) are allowing .22's in place of pcc, as a 2nd gun, or just a division by itself depending on the match. Those that have plenty of regular ammo can shoot their usual division, but if you still want to shoot and have 22 it is being allowed. I think this is a good thing. Who knows how long this nonsense will last. gerritm
  2. Other than a few outlaw matches & UML 3-gun who cares how long the mega mags are? The COF in USPSA averages what, 28-32 rounds, but I shoot PCC & in a USPSA match have never had to reload using my 33 round Glock with a plus 2 extension. I agree that it would be impossible to reign in the mag sizes now with all the different manufacturers making the extensions. I think even IDPA does not have a mag length limit just number of rounds(30) in mag. gerritm
  3. Challenge is one thing safety is quite another. If there is no safe way to do it then sounds to me like you want to penalize the PCC shooter while making the stage possible for the pistol shooter. I can easily carry a bowling ball in 1 hand while shooting a pistol in the other. I have run across several times in matches where that is the goal. One such stage was to hold on to a rope, stretch left & right as far as it could go in left and right hand around walls to shoot several targets, only way to do this was one handed, fine to shoot 1 handed for a pistol, not for PCC. We refused to shoot it, dropped the rope, and took the procedural penalties. Funny thing was several pistol shooters were DQ'ed for AD's. Any stage design should be balanced & somewhat equal in difficulty, challenge, & safety to all shooters including pistol/pcc, left & right handed. gerritm
  4. I shoot PCC. Have had several stages where we were required to hold or carry an item. As said just can't require to shoot 1 handed. A bowling ball would not be a good idea if you had to shoot with it, would be begging to hurt someone, drop on toes, or DQ trap. But an ammo can small suitcase/briefcase, etc. with a handle probably wouldn't be an issue. Even had one with a small 2# dumbell as long as you can safely hold it & shoot with both hands it would be OK. gerritm
  5. We have shot @CCC for years. It is a great facility. We have shot their USPSA, night matches, & Steel Challenge matches. The team at Brazosland Pistoleros put on quality & professional matches. You will have a blast. Their usual range for SC is way too small. It will be hot, but most of the bays have shade & if not they will provide cover. gerritm
  6. Seekins Precision hand guards are flat on the bottom and very stable. My son has run one for years and loves it. Not exactly cheap. gerritm
  7. Funny thing we were bored and shot a small indoor outlaw match last night, which we haven't done in 6 months or so. Good ventilation and usually have a slight cough & itchy throat, but nothing from last night. One of the other very modern indoor ranges that we shot at kind of regular would close to the public just before we started and the ventilation system was on a timer & shut off. If the MD remember to turn it back on all was OK. Other range was very old and had none to speak of, just fans to direct the air away. Everyone that shot there on a regular basis had high lead levels. Mine got to 11 and when I got tested I received a notice from the State of Texas that it was reported and to take precautions. Never shot there again. gerritm
  8. This. Several of us that shot matches on a regular basis indoors had elevated lead levels. 2 guys were at the threshold of serious lead poisoning & hospitalization. I tested slightly up. So bottom line be careful and especially if you see black or coughing the next day, might want to consider not going there. Some of the guys starting wearing full respirators until they shot. gerritm
  9. Just put one on our 22/45 Lite and it seems like it will work really well. Pretty easy to install following video & instructions. gerritm
  10. Stretch Precision has there own proprietary designed barrels that come with there custom length gas system and gas tube. Criterion, Spec Ops and others have standard 16" rifle length gas systems. All great and very soft shooting when set up with BCG & buffer. Even a mid length JP barrel set up with their SCS buffer & low mass BCG can be tuned to be very soft. gerritm
  11. Really cool, my granddaughter has been running hers now for several matches with zero malfunctions and loves it. Thanks for the recommendation. I am amazed at how soft it shoots. Got all of my old MKA mags including the 24 T&N to run in both. gerritm
  12. If you go with the lightened bolt (JP & JP SCS buffer system and adjustable gas system and a 16" rifle length or Stretch 16 barrel you will not need or want a heavy barrel. Your recoil will be minimal if set up properly. The heavy barrel will slow you down way too much in transitions. gerritm
  13. Some of the steel cannot be dated or verified as to whether it is AR500 or not. I have seen the craters & holes blown in them. Who knows, why take a chance on tearing up the steel. Easier to just check with a magnet. Some matches will allow then on paper. I have some supposed tungsten tipped that I got from a LEO. Not sure if it is, no markings. gerritm
  14. This is a hard & fast rule in UML & 3-gun due to the velocities of .223/556 ammo. I have been checked many times. It will crater or go thru steel, but I have never seen it enforced in USPSA. Many many shooters use Tula & Wolf. Didn't think it applied to pistol rounds. gerritm
  15. I have this same problem with a couple of CZ's and tight Taccom barrels. Not so much the OAL depending on bullet profile, but a slight expansion of the case when using coated bullets and a bigger bell to not scrape off the coating. The shock bottle hundo works great. If the round doesn't drop completely in the hundo and seat, it will cause a problem in some of these tight chambers. They run fine in an STI & JP barreled PCC, but not the CZ. Took me awhile to catch this when I case gauge, to be very picky on how far they seat. gerritm
  16. We have 3 different 16" barrels. Mine is a Spec Ops 16" rifle length with their angled gas port non adjustable gas block, JP SCS stock set up, low mass JP BCG. RCA adjustable gas key, Surefire comp. Granddaughters, Criterion 16" rifle length gas, non adjustable gas block, low mass BCG, old Taccom UL buffer, RCA AGK, Lantac dragon comp. Sons, Stretch 16, non adjustable gas block, Taccom buffer, RCA AGK, Seekins low mass BCG & comp. All 3 have CMC triggers. Gun weights are about the same. Gas adjustment are all set high for reliability. After shooting all in various matches and comparing pulse, recoil, accuracy past 300 yards, believe it or not they are all very similar. Granddaughter's is probably the softest shooting most accurate with mine next. Stretch runs 3rd. All 3 are super reliable. Not sure on the math, but real world. Have had and shot over the years every type barrel from carbine length, mid, to rifle and longer gas system is the way to go. gerritm
  17. Not for 3 of us, ammo cost is well over 1K. But still thinking about it, have a couple of leads on ammo or primers. Will see. gerritm
  18. We have been kicking around going as the 1 major for us due to the ammo/primer shortage. 3 of us shoot and would be roughly 1500 rounds between us. Might just take my 18 YO granddaughter. She is a pretty good PCC/CO shooter and hangs with some top shooters. Hard to justify the ammo expense even if I can find enough 9mm at 75-80 cents a round. Or primers. It would wipe out what I have left. Plenty of projectiles & cases. Easily over a grand for each of us, when you add in match fees, ammo, travel, hotels, etc. Gets to be quite expensive. Still hoping. Saw some of the rules on the USPSA email, but can't find them now. Any link to them? gerritm
  19. I have been throwing the coated ones in a bucket to use the hammer type with those. I generally don't re-use the bullets anyways. I have plenty of new, just can't waste the primers/case. Same here with pulling some every few days. gerritm
  20. Mine doesn't seem to work well on some coated bullets especially if they are loaded with a shorter OAL gerritm
  21. I have one & a nitrofin with standard holsters including a double lined RHT and all we did was use a heat gun or hot hair dryer. Heat up the Kydex just enough to push the gun in and leave it until it cools. That will mold it enough to get use with no problems. Did not have to cut anything. Adjust the top retention screw to hold. gerritm
  22. A buddy of mine has a small gun store and has been testing one of these in 3-gun & shotgun matches. So far it has been fairly reliable. Needs hotter plus 1250fps rounds. Got dirty quickly and had some issues with parts coming loose. I think if you don't mind sorting out a few bugs it might be OK for light duty, but not if you are serious. Couple of other guys we shoot with have them and same type of reliability issue. gerritm
  23. I just did this pulled and loaded about 500 rounds using a collection of loaded practice ammo that I had thrown into an ammo can over the years. I was not confident there might be some bad or major rounds mixed in. Multiple brands of primers. I just took the decapping pin out of my Dillon sizing die and loaded like normal. I wanted to run them thru the sizer just to make sure they were correct. I have now shot about 300 with not a single problem or malfunction in my PCC and my son's STI 3-gun 2011. gerritm
  24. My thought when going to a new range that I don't know their local or range rules is to be on the safe side or to talk to other shooters when I arrive. How difficult is this concept to go to the safe area to do whatever. We all know this works. Makes sense to me. Most of these ranges with the strict parking lot rules would not throw someone not familiar with their rules out, just inform them what they are. Unless it was a blatant safety rule violation, then good riddance. Most of these are public ranges. With all the new gun owners there is a need to keep an eye on safety everywhere. gerritm
