  1. I was out there on Friday and met Bill from the Amish shooters. I did see one lone guy taping and loading and I just thought he was in RO training. I got a chance to check out the stages, didn't really help much. I had some equipment problems on Saturday when my squad shot. Mostly user error, but I won't go into it. What a great match and bunch of guys. The RO's were professional and offered some tips when needed. This was my first big match. The match went very well and efficient. I had a blast. Dave when you decide to shoot one of these @ PSC, the IDPA shoot next Saturday or when ever you are ready, let me know. I would be happy to squad with you.

Here is sort of what it will look like based on his optic decision. He won't have the compensator for right now. He is leaning towards a J Point type of small red dot.
  3. All of the local matches I have shot have had the hammer cocked for everyone. It may just be a safety issue. That would be interesting having to fire off the first shot using DA.
  4. Again I am fairly new to both IDPA and USPSA. My gun is DA and I have not had to shoot as a DA. We always have had the hammer cocked to start. Not sure of the rule. Production is the easiest to shoot. Nothing special to the gun. Run what you brung. Lots of fun.
  5. Hi Dave, welcome to the best shooting forum on the planet - you're starting in the right place! The Space City Challenge USPSA match will be at the PSC range this weekend, a lot of folks from this forum will be there, including myself. If you have time come on out and watch some of the action, introduce yourself and ask questions - you'll get a good idea of what USPSA is all about, and get to see what a major match is like first hand. Hope to see you there! Dave, I am shooting or at least trying to shoot this Space City Challenge this Saturday. This will be my first major match. I am unclassified so I will be shooting for fun and the experience. Come on out and check it out. The cool thing about all of this shooting is the people. Everyone you meet is great and no one treats you like you are not important. There are no range snobs. It is all a learning experience. Everyone is willing to teach and help. Here is a link to the match and to Bay Area Practical shooters, who put on a lot of the USPSA and steel shoots @ PSC. http://www.texassouthsection.com/ gerritm

    HK USP 40 tactical

I have a friend who bought my HK USP Tactical .40 from me and wants to set it up with a small optic on a rail mount. Any one know of a race type holster that will fit this?
  7. I shoot the limited pro in 9mm in USPSA in production and IDPA in ESP. I don't know if it is approved as I have never shot it in a sanctioned match. It is a DA. I have a fiber optic sight. It runs flawless and is more accurate than I can shoot it. I have only been shooting matches for about 3 months, but have run several thousand rounds thru it with out a hiccup. The only problem was getting some of the replacement mags working. Henning Walgren took care of that with new springs and followers. After seeing many many other more expensive brands have a lot of trouble, I am convinced that EAA/Tanfoglio is a great gun. I just bought a Limited Gold open gun in .45. I will shoot that in my first match this weekend. gerritm
  8. Dave, I shoot @ PSC. they had a steel plate shoot last Sunday. All you need is a lot of ammo, a holster, gun, and 4 or 5 mags. I brought 2 newbies out and they had a blast. Very good for beginners, no pressure. We just started shooting IDPA and USPSA a couple of months ago and it is great. All of the shooters are friendly and willing to help. It is a great time. Come on out. gerritm
  9. I had all 4. Need a 5th item, "bullet holder".
  10. Ever have that feeling that you forgot something? I am fairly new at shooting matches and we had a local pistol steel match. I went thru my mental checklist of everything that I needed. I was going to shoot my new to me open gun for the first time in a match. I numbered my 6 mags the night before to make sure if I had any problems with one I would have it marked. I put the mags on my gunsafe shelf next to the gun. I got all my equipment set out and ready to go. At the last minute I decided to bring my production gun and ammo just in case. Loaded the guns up in my range bag and took off. Got to the range, put on my holster rig, took my open gun over to the safe area to check it and put it in my holster. I went back to the truck to get my ammo and mags to load up and guess what? The mags never made it my range bag and were left back on the shelf. Glad I brought my other gun and ammo, so the shoot was not a total loss. Guess I need to set up a range bag separate for ead gun.
  11. Do you guys know if the c-more with the click is a fixed red dot or does it float. I am thinking of changing my Aimpoint red dot out and am looking for a sight that I can acquire the dot faster.
  12. Henning Walgren is the way to go. Check on gunbroker.com for extra mags and if you can find them Henning can supply the base pad for the mag well, springs, and followers. I have the Limited Pro in 9mm without the scope mount tappings and a Gold in .45. I have shot many rounds thru both and they operate flawless. Only problem have been the mags, but once I found them and installed Hennings parts, everything was good.
  13. I am sure this has been discussed before, but what is the benefit of shooting major vs minor. I know it has to with with the power factor and velocities.
  14. My mistake, it is a local IDPA club that put's on the 3-gun, I will check with them. Thanks.
  15. I am getting ready to shoot my first IDPA 3-gun match. Are optic (red dot) sights allowed on your shotgun? I know they are OK on my AR.
  16. Thanks for the help, fairly easy and inexpensive fix.
  17. Is there a way to remove the mag safety so you don't have to insert an empty mag to drop the hammer? A friend shoots his M&P in IDPA and it is a pain to clear after the stage. Many RO's have not seen this and have questions.
  18. I have an EAA/Tanfoglio Limited Pro in 9mm and a Gold in .45. Does it hurt to dry fire them to practice or would a snap cap be better?
