  1. Did that already. Tried TTI springs & followers, and tuned the feed lips, same results with Grams guts. Last time it failed in a match it had the TTI guts. Guessing this gun doesn't like STI 170mm mags. 140's run fine. Will just get another MBX. gerritm
  2. When I started reloading a few years ago I went the same way with loading machines. Started on Lee 4-hole turret press with Titegroup to learn and then went to the top of the line Lee progressive Pro loader with all the goodies, including primer feed, shell feeder, & bullet feeder. When it worked it was great, but I was always tinkering with it to keep it running. Very easy to miss advancing the case when it was constantly stopping and me getting distracted fixing something. I got rid of it when I suspected a double charge and weighed about 100 rounds and pulled a bunch to double check. Never did find the double, & hated not knowing, but decided to go with a Dillon 650 with a powder check and have never looked back. Still using a 650 with Titegroup and probably 100K rounds later with no issues. Very difficult, not impossible, to double charge with a 650/750 especially with the powder check. gerritm
  3. J uly A ugust S eptember O ctober N ovember Next 5 months are telling us what is coming? 2020 SUCKS! gerritm
  4. I have been running Eggleston and SNS coated 124RN .356 @ 1.10 OAL for minor since the shortage. Been very happy with accuracy and reliability. One thing I have noticed with the SNS is that their coating is thinner than the Eggelstons and the coating scrapes a little easier when loading with the same bell. Also get a little more lead/carbon build up at the comps on our PCC's with th SNS bullets. Nothing terrible, but can see it. Will stick with the Egglestons for now until the plated Everglade 124's come back in stock. Found plenty of MG & Everglades 124 JHPs to run in the open gun. gerritm
  5. Same here with the STI 140's for classifiers and dropping in the sand. This is my backup 170. Ran my 170 MBX all day with 140 STIs with no problems. I have run it in practice after changing the guts/basepad to TTI and of course it worked, so last stage was a classifier Hi-Jinx, I figured I would try it on the clock and it failed . Shot the first 6 rounds and moved to 2nd position, shot 1 and jammed. We shoot 3-gun & have had a couple of all pistol 50 plus jungle runs or bay stages and nice to have plenty of rounds. Maybe my CK just doesn't like it. gerritm
  6. Thinking that might be the next step. When I had my DVC open 9mm the STI mags all ran great, but I had issues with the MBX mags, so I have a history of them working. That was back when MBX first started on the market. gerritm
  7. Glad to know it is normal with the Lula. I have the Dawson tuning kit and have done that already. Just wasn't sure if that neck area of the mag was that fat and it was normal. gerritm
  8. I have a brand new STI 170mm mag that I can't seem to get to run consistently. No spacer style. Will work 1 time then have a feed problem next. Usually 10 or 12 rounds in. Checked and adjusted the feed lips to specs. They were off from the factory slightly. Was sketchy with all stock guts. Changed to grams spring and follower, same. Changed to TTI basepad, spring, & follower, same results. Last malfunctions was on a classifier about 13 rounds in with the TTI stuff. MBX 170 mag & my STI 140mm mags all run fine. Strange thing with this mag. I load with a Lula loader. All my other mags the loader goes all the way down and load fine and is loose on the mag body. This mag the loader gets tight when you press down and the base sticks on the mag body and I have to pull the loader up slightly and hold the mag to load the next round. Seems strange that that would be that tight and would happen. I don't have another 170 STI mag to check the loader on and all my friends have the old gen mags. Any ideas? gerritm
  9. Getting back on point of topic. Sounds to me like it is regional. We shoot all of the USPSA matches in the Houston metro area (5-6 different clubs) and see none of this. We have some of the best shooters from GM on down. Everyone is treated equally. Sure you see an occasional temper tantrum, but that is a product of sports in general. Sure some don't reset and treat the match as a social outing. We all have egos, but most leave them in the parking lot. We all make mistakes and screw up stages. Some shoot for fun, some are super serious. It all good. With all the different matches available, if you don't like the way they are run or the shooters in general, don't go. Being able to squad on PS we tend to pick the matches we like & squad mates that we know and are comfortable shooting with. gerritm
  10. Might have been my first or second USPSA match shooting limited was the first time I saw one and a "buddy" who is a GM told me how to shoot it. I can't remember the exact order, but something like bottom left, top right, bottom right, top left, etc. He said if you shot it fast enough it would not move. Sounded logical. Started spinning like a prop on a P51. After a couple of mags I finally knocked them all off. Between all on my squad cracking up laughing the joke was on me. Being a friendly local match they told me afterward how to actually shoot it and gave me a reshoot. gerritm
  11. Top or top right, go to 3 o'clock, then 4 o'clock, 5 o'clock, then 6 o'clock. If you shoot in this clockwise order it will be easy. gerritm
  12. I have an MKA1919 built by Tooth & Nail about 5-6 years ago. Using Winchester AA 1145fps #7.5 or#8 my failure rate is less than 1%. Again keeping it clean & lubricated. I have broken a couple of parts over the years. But it runs reliably. I have a 24, 18, 12, & several 10 & 5 round mags that all work. I have learned what slugs it likes and that when I use #6 Prairie Storm for spinners it doesn't like them and will occasionally have a misfeed, but worth it to spin it in 2 rounds. This is due to running a light recoil spring and I think the hot rounds over run the bolt. My son & granddaughter both run Benelli M2s and they both run as close to 100% as can be. Don't even remember the last time either one had a failure with AA1145 rounds. We do change the TTI springs every couple of years along with the mag spring. Here in Texas running shotgun rounds with hard/stiff hulls help with reliability due to the heat deforming cheaper hulls. gerritm
  13. Been running ours since getting it with CCI mini mag ammo. First 500 rounds or so with no cleaning or oil other than a few drops after getting it, 100% reliability. Just ran a bore snake thru it, wiped the inside of the upper with a rag & some Q-tip cleaners, a little oil and have done at least 2 or 3 more SC & RCSA matches with 1 failure that was a bad round. CCI mini mag ammo works in these. Super accurate/clean, pretty much a quarter size at 25 yards with a 6MOA C-more dot. We use Ruger 10 rounders, 15 rounders, & the double BX 25 round mags with no issues. Did some testing with Federal & Winchester with mixed results for reliability. Never had any luck with Remington in our Ruger Target Lite. Sticking with the CCI. Our local Academy's have had it pretty regular with 5 box limits. gerritm
  14. We run 6MOA railway on an Allchin mount. Take off the Picatinny mount and this will go direct on the top. Also run a 6MOA RTS2 on an Allchin mount. I have a TK trigger & comp and replaced the bolt with a Volquartsen and removed the loaded chamber indicator. We use CCI mini mag ammo with Volquartsen high power springs in the mags. Guns run 99.9%. Love them. gerritm
  15. One of our PCC's has the Taccom 13/16 barrel. Love it super reliable. Normally run 115 or 124 .355 plated/JHP/FMJ RN @ 1.12OAL. Have has some issues running anything longer than 1.14. Due to the shortage of my normal plated PCC bullets I tried some 124gr Eggleston .356 coated bullets that I have shot before off and on always in my Glocks. They run perfect in my JP PCC barrel. Plunk/spin fine. Loaded them to my normal 1.12 OAL Did a plunk/spin test and it would not go in. Kept dropping the length until 1.09 and they kind of plunked/spun, but had some resistance. Tested at the range and they ran fine, but really would like to open up the barrel. They did shoot in my CZ75 also, which does not like anything too long. Going to try some SNS 125gr RN .356 next. Not sure why these are somewhat short maybe Tim can chime in on this. gerritm
  16. I started my 16 YO granddaughter 2 years ago by building her a lightweight PCC. Seems like she naturally took to rifles. She progressed to limited, 3-gun, & steel challenge. Each progression I made sure the gun, whether pistol (CZ75), AR, PCC ( I built both), or shotgun (Benelli M2), fit and she could handle it especially the weight. Nothing expensive, custom built, or fancy. She now smokes most of us with her PCC and decided a few months ago to try my CK open major. She loves it and has gotten to where she is right with some of our better experienced open shooters. She has had some formal pistol training by one of our local instructors & did a 3-gun class with Jerry, Lena, & Kay. One thing that is paramount to young shooters is that whatever gun you get them is that is 99.9% reliable. That is one of the hardest parts for them to overcome. If they do poorly because of a malfunction you don't want "The Look" and long silent ride home. She shoots a Magnum Research switchbolt .22 & a Ruger 22/45 lite in SC and has been top overall in every SC match in the Houston area. But she has a life outside shooting with her friends & school. Never forced her to shoot. gerritm
  17. Sent my 650 back beginning of last year for similar problems. Had about 70K-80K rounds on it. Rebuilt it and sent me a list of parts, basically everything. All it cost me was shipping, around $60. One thing I will say is that when I sent it back I removed all the "Upgrades" and since this has come back with 40K or so I have not put back any of the upgrades and it has run perfect. The start of all my problems was when I added those items. gerritm
  18. Probably springs/followers, they should last much longer than 5 matches, could just need to be stretched & follower tipped, but using Mag Slick after cleaning works well. gerrit
  19. A couple of our local clubs have tried the intro to USPSA Class. Never been required to shoot at their matches. A couple of people showed up. Not enough to keep them going. Most have the new shooters basic safety orientation. Here is how I was brought into the sport and this happens every weekend at all matches' One of my buddies from our local range tells me about how fun USPSA is and there is a match Saturday. Bring your basic gear and come out and shoot with us. Tells me a little about what I need and how it works. You will have a great time. I show up Saturday. When asked if who is new, I and several others raise our hands. Now, do you as the MD ask them if they have had the mandatory USPSA official new shooters class that was held last month, online, or once a year? We say no and you tell the 3 or 4 new shooters and potential club members that sorry you can't shoot today and must attend the next class, get certified, and send them packing or do you call them aside and have a group basic safety orientation and range commands to get them started on their first match? My guess is if you want to grow your club you do the safety orientation & make sure they are in a squad with good people to help them have fun, enjoy the match, & be safe. Then they will come back. I am sorry you got swept, but that is an on going problem at almost every public & private range, indoor & out with the influx of new gun owners and most of them never having any basic safety training after buying their first weapon. Good luck, hope you can figure out a way to make this happen and keep us all safer. gerritm
  20. Many of our local indoor ranges have a basic proficiency requirement if you shoot their matches and don't have an IDPA, USPSA, or other shooting sports membership # that at least shows that you have some knowledge of the safety rules & have shot a match. If you don't have this they require you to go to one of their classes. Which is all well & good cause most have certified person on staff to train & then have the required insurance. Not so on club matches. Who takes on this task? A couple of our clubs do offer an "Intro to USPA/safety", but how do you get the word out to someone who's buddy tells him about these matches & how fun they are and show up Saturday with some basic gear to shoot? Turn him away cause he didn't have this class? I believe a good new shooter safety brief before the match & assign them to a squad with experienced shooters who are willing to help & guide them through the match. Now I have been shooting in several different shooting sports for awhile and other than lately with the Chinese virus preventing them. What happened to IDing the new shooters at the shooters meeting and have a brief safety instruction before the match?? Several of our clubs don't even have shooters meeting anymore, just go to the bay & stage. If this is the way the match goes we will usually will ask if anyone is new and help them out with the safety brief and help them get through the match safely. gerritm
  21. We have them in all our PCC's, AR's, & pistols. Have found that no matter where you put your finger you get the same pull. So I don't see any disadvantage especially if you are used to them. geritm
  22. Been awhile, but if I remember right it was a typical Ruger trigger weight at about 3.5-4#. It was somewhat rough and not easily controlled for SC due to the longish pretravel & overtravel.. I didn't do anything else to it.With the flat TK Victory trigger it cleans up the pre & over and smooths out the pull. gerritm
  23. I am 66 and feel your pain. That is why the timer is called the Neuralizer. Cause it wipes out short term memory. Not sure where you are from, but here in the Houston metro area we have many different USPSA matches to choose from. Some have stages that are very easy to plan and better for beginners, but still fun and others that are large & complete memory type stages (similar to LVL2 or 3) and can be very frustrating to newer shooters. So if you can try to pick the more beginner friendly matches so you don't get frustrated. Then as you advance & get more confident go to the more difficult matches. I have been shooting USPSA for awhile, but when I first started, being right handed I liked to start as much as I can from left to right so all reloads are comfortable & downrange. Next I think of the stage as being linear or in a line from start to finish. Sometimes slower, but very seldom do you miss a target. As I got more confident with simple stage plans & where to reload then I began to plan the stage more based on speed and scoring. It will come to you with time & matches. Remember KISS (keep it simple stupid). Good luck & have fun. gerritm
  24. I have a Tandenkross Victory flat trigger only in our 22/45 Lite. Didn't swap out any other parts. Adjustable for pre & over travel and with my gauge at about 2.0-2.5#. Crisp & positive reset. Really liking it and fairly easy to install. gerritm
  25. This, just had this problem with my CZ SP01. Normally run my JHP, FMJ, & plated .355 at 1.12. Ran a test batch with some 124gr .356 coated RN rounds @ 1.12 - 1.125OAL. Plunk tested them in my JP & Taccom PCC barrels and were fine. Did not do a plunk test in my CZ. Took them to the range and they ran fine in the PCC's, but about 10% would not chamber in the CZ. Had to force several out. Rest shot fine. So must have been right at the max OAL with a few over. Reset my OAL @ 1.11 and they all plunk tested in the CZ & shot/ejected fine. Moral of the story is plunk test in all barrels. gerritm
