  1. Nice to see a horse finally break the dry spell. His time was the second fastest among the triple crown winners and 6th over all at the Belmont. Definately a great horse but there is only 1 true legend of a horse. Found this video of the races side by side. Goes to show how great Secretariat truely was watching these 2 side by side. http://deadspin.com/this-is-what-it-would-look-like-if-american-pharoah-rac-1709988755
  2. I use the compensator mainly to enhance the blast for IPSC timer to better be able to catch the shots. That is the big benefit of the comp on A 22. When we have steel matches I appreciate the guy has a comp on his rifle which makes the gun louder where you can pick up the shot behind the shooter and don't have to get right along the side of the gun to pick up the shot and get pelted with brass in the process
  3. I have found it almost identical to Autocomp as far as loading
  4. Ya I think there is only so low you can go with the 45 glocks. With the slide weight and the fact that you can only go so low on a recoil spring to function and still out the gun in battery as well as being able to eject the round. The 230 grain bullets are on the heavy side for that PF
  5. It all depends on what you like feel wise. Some like the soft loads which are your 200 grain loads while others like a snap to them so for them a 165 grain is better. I use 165 for mine both major and minor. At minor 135 PF the 165 with clays is soft and feels better than 9mm minor
  6. They are a little harder than standard small pistol primers and are pretty close if not the same as small rifle primers There have been people that have had breech face erosion using small rifle primers in light pistol loads that are low pressure and just don't seal around the primer due to being harder than small pistol primers. On higher pressure loads it seals up fine and usually 40 major is high enough to not be an issue as is 9major as they seal up and in the case of 9mm major do so without flattening out as much as the small pistol do.
  7. Cheely makes a black thats for a vertical cmore
  8. If it dosent say you must activate it first and can see it inactivated it's fair game. It's just like walls. If it dosent specify in stage briefing it's to height as constructed. Nothing wrong with gaming the heck out of a stage and I do so every chance I get. If they wanna set up long springs with nothing to do on the way running from port to port for stages and I can eliminate that I will. I shot a coule targets at just a few feet with the gun over the wall before because it did tn say I couldn't. Saved about 18plus yard if move up range. Some yelling was done befoe the gun was even holstered but it was legal.
  9. Run a regular sti mount on mine with no issue. Another option is the cheely mount which is offset to the left a little
  10. If you are really having issues, add the lee bulge buster with a gutted factory crimp die to a cheap single stage press
  11. usually 20 rounds reloadable means 20.5 rounds where 21 wont fit
  12. Body modification only if they don't drop free. On mine I just add springs followers and base pads and check feed lips. Mid they are where to be good if not I adjust as needed
  13. If you use loctite this is the one to use. It isn't a thread locker it's a retaining compound for press fit stuff http://www.dawsonprecision.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=800010BB-1388518283
  14. I would run it as an ALS vs trying to remove it or have a kydex one made. The ALS is not a friction fit so it would be loose without it. The holster is not slow at all and the draw is very natural
  15. I would first load longer 1.18 and see if that helps. The 40s tend to do best with that combo. For mags, the Tripp "Corey" mags are the way to go
  16. Would you be reloading or using factory ammo? If your shooting factory ammo, I would go 9mm for sure as the 40s usually like the ammo reloaded a little longer. As for mags, since it appears you are not in the states are you able to get Tripp mags as for 40 caliber, the Tripp "Corey" mags are the mag to use. In 9mm there are a couple different options that work well. I would rank them Dawson, Tripp, Wilson for 10 rounds and for 9 rounds the "springfield mag" which is what comes with the STI as a factory mag. As for major or minor it all depends on the stage. If it is ALL 8 round arrays major may be a benefit unless its very steel friendly then you have 2 extra shots in minor and steel scores the same. I know people will say its fastest to shoot 1 for 1 but you can push it a little harder especially on an 8 round steel array if you know the extras are there if you need it and 1 miss isn't throwing you to a slide lock reload and 2 is a standing reload. Also if you run into stages that are not 8 round arrays, 10 helps. The big on is the 4-6-4-6-4-6 arrays where its 4 from one position, then 6, then 4 etc. if your shooting 10 rounds your much better off than shooting 8 and loading constantly. Single stack nationals is a poor example for major vs minor as it is set up specific for 8 rounds
  17. There are a couple bad combinations of spring/parts with glocks Light weight(4 pound) striker spring, heavy trigger spring---what this does is it dosent always allow the trigger to fully reset past the trigger safety as these springs work against each other and the light striker spring isn't strong enough to work against the heavier trigger spring. the fix to replace one of the springs with a factory part Light recoil spring(mainly 10-11 pounds) and full power striker spring---what this does is it can allow the gun to pull out of battery just a little when firing. The striker spring is basically pushing it out, and the recoil spring is pushing it into battery so the recoil spring can be overcome and it moves just slightly out of battery---the fix is use a little heavier recoil spring or a lighter striker spring. Light Striker spring(4pound) and full weight striker--this combo MAY cause light strikes especially with hard primers mainly Tula, and some CCI. If used you should replace the spring pretty often and try and use federal primers if possible. The other fix is to add a reduced weight striker or a 4.5 pound striker spring which usually clears it up A good combination of springs that usually works well is a factory Trigger spring, 4/4.5 pound striker spring with a reduced striker or a 4.5/factory striker spring with a factory striker and a 13 pound recoil spring. Glocks are easy to work on but a lot of the springs and parts are a balancing act as they work with each other to function correctly and problems often occur when they are used in bad combinations
  18. I will agree with above even with 28 rounds a 30 rounder can be a little difficult to seat at times if you just try and push the mag in. It does take a little force to get it to seat and usually inserting it then hitting the bottom to seat it works best. For a reload on the clock for say a classifier where your maybe standing there doing a reload, I like a GI 20 rounder right where you are use to your pistol mags being. The advantage is the length of the mag and it being a straight mag means you can grab and index the mag just like a pistol mag and seat it the same as you would a pistol mag with your palm on the bottom of the magazine pushing it into the gun.
  19. If you want something say I'll take it to know you spoke for it. If you have a question you want confirmed to make a decision. Then say I'll take it with the question/provision. Like if you see a gun and they describe the gun etc and forget to mention caliber or something To say I'll take it provided it's a 40 cal is what should be said not I have a question what caliber is it they tell you and then you say I'll take it. If you want it and just need something confirmed then say you will take if provided it's what you your stipulation is. On this forum I would say you are pretty safe as you can't just join and post something to sell and people actually know who each other are and shoot with those people on a regular basis. They are also pretty honest about what they are selling and if there is an issue it's usually disclosed because you know who they are Buying from someone on other forums or at a gun show on a hand shake are different ball games and it's not uncommon for someone to have a gun with an issue or even one they messed up and instead of fixing it or whatever just take it to a show to pawn the problem off and say yap runs great when it barely works.
  20. Who says they would need to pry the door up? If the door is used and you can't run a lock or something into the rails it's easy. Smash window of garage reach in and pull the cable for the release and slide it right up
  21. The taran tactical spacers are basically a cleaned up hardy spacer. They are just smoother than the hardy and don't have the burrs etc
  22. I have the new balance 847s that I use and they over good support and actually have a nothing control bar or whatever they call it in the heel. I don't wear them daily until they have been worn for activity and have "broken down" and don't offer the shock absorption that I want for activity. Once retired I get a new pair for activity and use the old pair for daily use with an insole swap and still feel fine
  23. The auto load on an A5 is nice for an unloaded start or if it's run dry as you load the same regardless and don't have to practice tossing one in the chamber dropping bolt and stuffing tube or hitting the release to close it and the loading tube and practice getting one in the lifter and in the gun fast. I have felt and shot an A5 and it's lighter than the others you may or may like that and it seemed to recoil harsher.
  24. I wanted to try something different so I gave the girsan mc312 a shot. It's basically a benelli clone but has the spring in the stock not the forend like the stoeger does. Charging handle is extended some but not massive. Recoil pad is contoured at the top so it dosent hand and the pad isn't too bad. The trigger is not bad and it has a fiber optic front sight. It uses the beretta/benelli mobile chokes and comes with 5 chokes that are flush. I have an extended one in it now as we have quite a few of them. The shell lifter did not catchy thumb at all doing a load 2 and the shell stop isn't overly tight. Mods I did to the gun are added a benelli nova tube to bring it up to 12+1 and added a clamp and nordic follower. The tube needed to be cut down about 3/4 of an inch as there is A lot of unthreaded part past the tube and you need about 1/4 inch past the threads. I used a pipe cutter and perfect clean cut in under a min. The action feels smooth when cycling. I have not done any work to the port as loading 2 with no interest in quads I am fine with how it loads even unmodified. Total cost with the tube and all is about what a new stoeger goes for. Figured it was worth a shot to see how it goes and it's working good so far. I just don't shoot 3 gun enough to justify spending 2k plus on a shotgun for it. I'm also not shooting round after round through it to practice shooting a shotgun as I'm pretty comfortable with my shotgun shooting
