"guy" Movies

Recommended Posts

OK Guys,

One of my favourite things are good "Guy" Movies (or series of movies), and I'd like to propose my nominees for the all-time Top 10 (in no particular order):

01. The Godfather series

02. The Dirty Harry series

03. The Patriot

04. Dumb 'n' Dumber

05. Road Trip

06. 12 Angry Men (the original with Henry Fonda)

07. The Lethal Weapon series

08. The Bodyguard

09. In The Line of Fire

10. Legends of the Fall

The Die Hard series could've been a contender until Bruce Willis refers to a Glock 17 as "a Glock 7, a ceramic gun, made in Germany, which can totally escape detection in an airport X-ray". Yuk.

Anyway, I know I've missed a whole bunch of other great "guy" movies, but let's see how it pans out.

By the way, our lovely ladies such as Shooter Grrl and Sig Lady are welcome to contribute but, if "Thelma & Louise" or similar "Girly" movies are nominated, you will be spanked, but not in a fun way.

Bwa-ha-ha!

Heat

Saving Private Ryan

BlackHawk down

Dirty Harry (all)

Guetapen (not sure if it's the title but the one with Mr and Miss Basinger :P originally with Steve Mcqueen ).

Ok, the last is not really a 'good guy" story, but the shotgun fight is cool !

I must say that, even if I did watch each of the Die Hard movies, I'm no big fan of Bruce Willis , at least from a competitive point of view: an average D-class IPSC shooter could have easily put him "out of business" by shooting a lesser number of rounds in a more accurate way.

Looks like the "spray and pray" tactic got a tremendous hold in movies: if you don't have a shootout with swarms of bullets flying all over, it is not going to be "realistic". <_<

BTW, I always wondered "where the He@# are those bulets going to end?"

My personal preference goes to western movies, such as Sergio Leone's ones:

1. Once upon a time in the west.

2. A fistful of Dynamite (my preferred sentence ever: "Duck you sucker").

3. For a few dollars more.

I could add a few Sci-Fi movies, such as:

4. The Terminator series.

5. Total recall.

6. Bladerunner ("I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...").

For the ladies here, I could suggest the Alien serie, in which Sigourney Weaver (where else did I hear this name? ) plays a wonderful role.

P.S. Da ya'll think I wouldn't have mentioned Star Wars saga?

Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars (always number one).

Guetapen (not sure if it's the title but the one with Mr and Miss Basinger  originally with Steve Mcqueen ).

I actually like both versions of the movie, to a minor extent. Neither will ever qualify as great entertainment IMHO. In some ways, I prefer the 1994 remake to the 1972 original. I think Kim Basinger made a much better Carol McCoy than Ali McGraw. She was tough and sexy - and had great taste in handguns. Ali McGraw's Carol just struck me as vapid. David Madsen was a great Rudy Travis; I liked him in that role better than Al Lettieri as Rudy Butler in the original. (Why the last name change is beyond me.) Madsen was born to play sleazy, amoral psychos. And Jennifer Tilly was immensely better as slutty Fran Carvey than Sally Struthers was as Fran Clinton. (I can figure out why they changed that one.) I've admired Jennifer Tilly as an actress ever since I first saw her on Hill Street Blues years ago. The only way, really, in which the original movie was much better than the remake was that Steve McQueen made an absolutely great Doc McCoy, whereas Alec Baldwin just came across as this whiny little punk.

Am I the only one that dug the ' Young Gun' movies. There's just something about " Regulators, Mount up!!!" That gets me going. Guess I always wanted to be that bastard Billy.

What about 'Bram Stoker's Dracula', pure power without fear. Tell me that isn't the shjt.

This one is for all the wanna be's.

Forrest Gump.

If there is a man that doesn't want to be Forrest then you really wouldn't understand. ( Thanks Alice C. )

How many men earn the congressional metal of honor. How many love a woman so much that they would give it away.

Forrest, you rock!!!

Oh man. What was I thinking???

Way too many awesome movies to reduce it to just a Top 10. There are so many great movies here, I think I'm gonna be a big customer for Blockbuster over the next few weeks.
