  1. Keep in mind I do not shoot open, but I did notice you said all you did different was change bullets and move from the Acme RN to an Eggleston flat point. I had terrible problems with the shape of Eggleston bullets in my 1911 and SA. My first thought was go back to the original load that worked with the same Acme bullet and see if that is the problem. I have noted open guns seem to be far more finicky with loads then your average 1911 or my CZ carry optics arm.
  2. Blue Bullets, they have been superb for me.

    CO Front sight use

After my first year in CO with a CZ SP-01, I find myself wishing I had a front sight to use when I am so close to a target, finding the dot is a waster of time. When I shot my MOS Glock, the front sight was high enough I could find it easily in those 4-5 foot rapid shots needed on such close in targets. Does anyone here use a CZ with the taller front sight, and if so, what height did you go with to make it usable, but not to the point of interfering with the dot? Perhaps I am missing the point and the sight will just interfere with the dot since the sight radius is shorter then the Glock 34.

    SP01 for CO

I use the Vortex Venom with the 3 MOA, but I wish I had the 6 MOA. In really bright sunlight the larger dot is much easier to pickup. I got my SP01 from CZC and and stress how impressed I am with the company and the work performed. Worth every dime.
  5. I suspect the tube is actually bent, thus causing the mag release to not fully go into the tube body. You will probably have to square the tube back up. Is it possible it got stepped on?
  6. It might be possible that sweat or something on your hands is the cause of the tape coming loose. Glue is an acidic compound, so strong salt or alkali sweat content could very well break down the glue in your tape.
  7. Without trying to create a firestorm on the Glock forum, the angle is why I went to a CZ for CO. I have tried to get used to the way the Glock sits in my hand, and it never feels right. This is not a slam on the firearm in any way, it is purely my opinion on the strange angle. I did purchase a G34 in order to get into CO, but found my old XDm with a Springer Precision rear CO sight felt much better. After test firing a CZ, I found it worked much better for me. BUT, millions of Glock owners are there for a reason, and just like the LE officers I work with, Glocks beat the competition by about 80 percent over non Glock. It would seem to change the grip angle makes it a pseudo XDm or polymer CZ. I think you would get used to the angle, I personally have just not gotten there.
  8. I moved to CO because there are no shooters in SS or Limited 10 in my area. I will say the .45 is my gun of choice for sure, and it does cost a bit more, but move to a coated bullet and the cost comes down fast. The price difference between a 200 grain .40 and .45 is zero, brass being the only real cost difference. I have always been told shoot major if possible. Hitting C' and D' with minor is a killer. As far as a production pistol functioning better then a 1911, I have not seen that. There are different skills involved, such as seating an 8 round mag is harder then a wide 10 round mag, but that is learned. I'd go with the major gun for sure.
  9. Are you positive it is not the actual shape of the bullet that is causing it not to seat correctly? I wonder if you try and shorten up the ones that will not seat in the barrel that does not solve the issue. I have always had problems with seating the Berry's round nose in my Kimber, but the MG's and Blue Bullets fit perfect at the same OAL. Each barrel is cut a bit differently between manufacturers, so give that a try first.
  10. I have an 8 pound jug of Canadian Clays, and it looks like the one on the left, and like Steve RA said, the old Clays from Aussieland I used up looked just like it. And the two manufacturers powders are not quite the same for sure. Canadian Clays is slower in my .45 then the Australian version.
  11. I refer to Sarges comments, I run a CZ in CO, and my back up gun is a Glock 34. So, for every match I go to I have to bring a separate belt, mag carriers, holster, and mags. It is a real pain in the backside. Will be getting a second CZ as a back up and selling off the Gluck.............
  12. I used to use an STI Eagle in .45 for Limited 10, and thought nothing would ever be better. But......since Limited 10 has fallen to the wayside, I decided to try CO on a lark with my aging eyeballs. I tried an SP-01 at last years Nationals, and the hook was set. Ordered one from CZ Custom with the optic cuts and all the modifications, and it shoots far better then I can. Stuart and his crew make a CZ dance. The only other gun I think I might try is the Czechmate, I only wish it was made in .38 Super Comp. But for now, the SP-01 is heads above my favorite. It has improved my shooting dramatically.
  13. Same with me for my 3 gun set up, used the Dawson narrow tube, normal XDm height, works great, gives a better sight picture.

    CO Mag Questions

If you are going with two on the belt, I'd make them all extended length. It's not that you will run out of rounds, but Murphy's lawyers insist that as you are have a great run on a stage, you WILL drop a mag on a reload. It certainly is nice to have a second high cap mag still on the belt. The time lost stopping and picking up a dirty, sand and dirt filled mag will blow a stage wide open... Now, how do I know this salient factoid?????????????
  15. I switched to a CZ SP-01 CO pistol this year, and shot Blue Bullet 147's 95% of the time. They make minor power factor easily, and those are the round nose style. I have also used the Blue 124 grainers with Titegroup, and they are just as accurate and soft shooting. As far as shipping goes, I dont see how one can blame the bullet company for busted boxes. You are getting free shipping if you order over $150 worth of bullets, and to get that rate, it goes USPS. If I am correct, in order to get reduced shipping rates, you must use the USPS box. That the Post Office drops the box or gets them wet is not BB's fault. My post office delivery person is so tired of me, they pull up to the front door and let me know if I want the damn things, come on out and get them. We have one of those community box systems, and they are pretty full. Between Blue Bullets and "free" shipping from Amazon, I am one popular guy.

    CO Mag Questions

CZ Custom has baspads for the 18 rounders, it is the short extension. I would definitely invest in at least high power springs. I can get 22 in my 18 round tubes.
  17. I took six at an Area match a few years back. Was in one of the "cowboy action" saloon type building shooting through a window. Really should have paid attention to the orange foot fault line I was stepped across to get that really clear shot. Now, while that is bad enough, after my idiotic mistake, the RO generously announced to EVERYONE there is a foot fault inside the building which is hard to see because you are going from the bright sun to shade. And yes, the shooter that followed me did exactly the same thing, right after the reminder NOT to follow in my "footsteps." Sometimes ya got to wonder................
  18. Well, I just went the opposite way. Started CO with a Glock 34, then dropped the dollars on a CZ Custom SP-01 Shadow. Have been shooting really good with the CZ, and last weekend I went back to the Glock 34. Dear Lord I shot like a drunk monkey on a roller coaster......I swear I just cannot adjust to the grip on a Glock. I think the other weird sensation is expecting the feel of the double action pull that the CZ requires on the first shot causes issues on the Glock even though there is no DA pull. Gladly back to the CZ, but to each his or her own. We have a shooter here in production that beats high end open guns using a Glock............
  19. I don't think it is your load recipe, I think it is related to the crimp you are applying. It is possible the some of the Xtremes are having a slightly thicker coating then your previous bullets have had, or some are just naturally thicker. The easiest test is to lighten your crimp and them test it. 165's will not tell you much unless the barrel is shot out, which takes a boat load of rounds. The next test would be to try a different bullet in 200 grains, such as a coated round. XDm barrels can be finicky as I have found out with lead bullets and Unique powder. A sudden change indicates something has changed in the physical makeup of the round, if the pistol is still accurate, I am betting its the crimp.
  20. I have a Gen4 34 for back up to my CZ for CO, and while it is not my preferred firearm, the only reason I bought the Gen 4 instead of the 3 was the 4 came with the MOS configuration. The Gen 3 was by far easier to use the mag release to me then the Gen 4. I shot 1911 and 2011 for years in L10 and SS, and as a lefty I prefer the release on the left side of the gun, to me it is an advantage to use my middle finger to release the mag. I did buy one of the first Gen5 models, but I did not like the feel and noted no trigger advantage or mag change speed. So that pistol is down the road already, I'll stick with the Gen4. One thing I did do was change out on the Gen4 was the release to an extended release. That makes it pretty easy to hit the button with the left hand finger. The process to replace it was very easy.
  21. Way back when I was shooting L10 with a 5.25 Xdm in .40 as a backup, and 4.4 of TG put a 180 Blue Bullet at 170 pf. Snappier then my .45 rounds, but OK.
  22. Though I prefer my CZ over the Glock 34, I do use TTI basepads on the stock Glock magazines, and have had zero problems. The Glock mags have been through freezing rain, snow, mud, and 100 degree temps, and never came off. Seriously, if the basepads were coming off the bottom of the mags. I would suspect the pads were not slid on quite right, or the mags themselves had worn out on the bottom.
  23. With the 147 grn I use 3.0 of TG and with the same bullett I use 3.4 grn of WSF and both run at 130 PF out of my SP-01 Shadow. 700X works great with the 135 grn.
  24. If you have not changed the crimp, I would look next to the brass. Some brass will be thicker, depending on manufacturer, and that could be causing a tighter crimp pressure then you think you are applying. I have seen some brass from foreign companies that are noticeably thicker and I found loading 147 grain bullets in them was useless. During you loading process if you notice a round that seemed fairly restrictive to taking a crimp, set it aside and shoot it at the range, then see if that brand could be the source of the tumbling.
