  1. glock 34 is a very popular option in uspsa, production division. just need to remove any extended basepads and load mags to just 10 rounds (10+1 for a loaded start which is the way most stages are). keep in mind that if you use a retention holster in uspsa (ie one with a "hood"), that hood or restraining strap needs to be engaged in uspsa.
  2. yep i hate the dumb things that cost you. i forgot to turn on the dot on an unloaded start at a section match. really need to pay attention when a stage has something outside the normal routine.
  3. sti eagle 2011 all day long. if you reload, get it in 40 and download for idpa, steel, 3 gun etc and major for uspsa limited. or just shoot everything in 9mm including uspsa (limited minor). sure you don't need the double stack capacity but it's there if you want it (ie 3 gun) and mag changes are easier than single stack.
  4. idpa has done this, was cool to see nationwide rankings. but i guess the classifiers accomplish the same thing albeit on smaller stages.
  5. i think it's not that they aren't or weren't staffed but that a few staff had to back out. i guess that happens when registration etc opens way in advance of a match.
  6. but won't it get cold and stiff by the time you send it back?
  7. very fun match, glad i did it. stages flowed well, no backups, they were all challenging but not over the top. no insane memory stages. lots of shooting choices. lunch was awesome.
  8. with most open guns running cmore's, including mine, that's what i chose for my PCC and i'm happy with my choice. i got the "tactical" version which has a 1/8" spacer or thereabouts so it sits slightly higher giving me a good cheekweld.
  9. go find a range that rents a bunch of handguns and give them all a try. 9mm 1911 (or 2011) sounds like something he should try. glock 17 also.
  10. PCC has taken first overall at a few uspsa-style steel matches at two clubs near me. i was actually one of those 1st's (out of ~70) and then at the next actual uspsa match i was 16th (out of ~60) in open. frankly i didn't think i did anything that special when i got 1st and thought i shot a little better than 16th, so who knows.
  11. yep unfortunately doing the scoring or running shooters is a bit of a distraction, but without folks doing this we wouldn't have matches. i've been busy running shooters a few times when all of a sudden it was my turn to shoot. normally doesn't go well. just need to pay extra attention so that you hand off the nook or timer a few shooters before your turn.
  12. i'd say the scabbard is a case. uncased on a cart everyone can see the chamber flag. can you see it when "cased" in your scabbard?
  13. https://yorkpistol.blogspot.com/ york does an outlaw uspsa-style match with options for 2 & 3 guns.
  14. regarding "nothing attached to handguard" can i suggest "nothing attached that sticks out more than 1/4 or 1/2" or so in any direction"? so as to allow short rail sections and or qd swivel attachment points.
  15. yep dry fire/practice to figure out the dot. i ended up turning mine sideways to get it closer to the barrel/bore and it's a LOT easier to pick up. and by the way, if picking up the dot is a big problem, you are allowed to use an iron-sighted gun in open. open shotty is the big game changer in 3 gun anyways. good luck.
  16. i sure hope not after dropping some coin on a buncha glock big sticks and an extension on the way. let's keep pcc the fun, anything goes, division!
  17. check out the uspsa equipment survey that spells out what guns everyone is using in the various divisions, might give you some ideas. i guess first thing is what division do you want to play in. 9mm is the logical/majority choice in production, with .40 being the logical/majority choice in limited. 9 also is a great choice for 3 gun, steel matches, idpa and the like. .40 works in these games (and uspsa production) but you're at a recoil disadvantage unless you reload or buy minor power factor ammo. as far as 17/22 vs longer 34/35, i think the surveys show the longer versions being more popular, but it is certainly a personal choice. shorter seems to point better but longer has longer sight radius. both have tons of aftermarket parts and accessories. i changed all my glock sights out to warren sevigny competition fiber front and wide rear notch. i'd say find a range that has all four glocks and give them all a shot or 50 and see what you like best. frankly if you like your current 9mm that may be the best and easiest choice. using one gun for everything will give you consistency which is a good thing, but we all like having a few toys to use for various applications.
  18. rules/appendix don't address mag length, so there is no length limit.
  19. my take is it's a glock, and i wouldn't recommend a bunch of work/$ to slide or barrel. you can get a g35 if you want a longer slide .40 model. if yours is a gen 4, make sure you have a beavertail backstrap for it, helps hold the gun firmer and higher and thus reduced recoil/flip. i'd shoot it a bunch more before taking any drastic actions.
  20. my one buddy says "beware the man with one gun." but i like mixing it up... i had big problems picking up the dot but after turning it sideways it is rarely an issue now. regarding green fiber, i had that on one gun and it seemed to wash out for me. red dot, red fiber optic, seems to work for me. do you have a wide notch on your rear sight? that helps me pick up the front sight relatively quickly.
  21. yep check the uspsa and idpa websites. at least a few venues around richmond up to fredericksburg. black creek has at least one monthly steel match.
  22. Was worried about damaging threads but used stationary belt sander and worked great.
  23. yeah pcc is a great option. cheaper entry than 2011's and even open varieties. sight height over bore isn't an issue it is with handguns. cheapest 9mm ammo is all you need. flexibility can definitely be an issue though, easy to one-hand or even point shoot a handgun around an obstacle, not as easy with a long gun.
