  1. I am looking at the Trijicon RMR on a Glock 19 MOS. Their "always on / dual illuminated" have amber or green dots, and their battery ones have red. Always on and no batteries sounds better, but wondering if the green or amber washes out at all vs the red? Also, their adjustable battery operated ones say they can be left at the #4 setting and last FOUR years. Anyone have an confirmation of that, and is #4 bright enough if the gun was needed for a hd/sd scenario without time to crank it up? Any other thoughts? Another brand/model that would be better for home/carry or have the dot sit lower on the slide? I would also play with this gun in Carry Optics. thanks!
  2. yes risk of damaging gun when jamming in a mag with slide back. thought is that we should have enough room/time (in Limited) to plan reloads running between arrays to not run out of ammo and have to reload with the slide back. in idpa, L-10, some steel matches or the like, that luxury of choice isn't there, or at least as much.
  3. think there are three options - hood (bladetech wrs, etc), something that locks on the trigger guard (like some open holsters, or the blackhawk serpa), and just a friction fit where you tighten the retaining screws (bladetech DOH). the first two are nice in that once the retention is removed, there is no friction and thus you have a nice smooth draw. but, you have to do something to release the retention and that can slow you down at least a little. the WRS with the hood works pretty good for me with STI Edge and Eagle. if you're starting with handgun, you don't need to engage the hood (unlike uspsa) so it's just a quick, frictionless draw. otherwise most times you're running to another array and have time to flick the hood and draw so it doesn't cost you any time. there are other 'hood' options including some where you press down with your thumb which is more natural than pressing the tab left with your thumb but i'm sticking with the WRS just because i have it and it works.
  4. if i will be cleaning the next day or two i generally just leave them in garage by the cleaning table. if not i toss them in the safe. if kids were in the mix i'd safe them right away.
  5. check out atlanta arms, they make minor power factor 40 ammo, think it's $16/box iirc pls shipping. in my edge, this seems to shoot softer than factory 9mm in my eagle, the extra weight of the edge could be coming into play, but there's definitely a difference.
  6. i shot a local indoor match for a few years. the MD would have 3-4 stages set up and then after those were shot, the next stage would be shooting stages 1-4 combined. doubled the round count and made it real fun.
  7. if you want to get better at uspsa then i'd shoot more of the same game (uspsa) and not another game (idpa). but, the goal of both games is shooting accurately fast so certainly if there isn't a uspsa event one day but there is an idpa event, then do the idpa event. more time spent with your gun is better than less time.
  8. suggest you check around for carry holsters. not saying there are none, but choices appear to be pretty limited.
  9. Even though the 34/35's aren't their cheapest models, they still aren't the most expensive things out there. My thought is if you want another caliber, just buy another gun. Speaking for myself, I can just see issues switching back and forth, such as bringing the wrong ammo, bringing the wrong barrel, mixing up ammo/mags, some of which can have dire consequences and some of which can just ruin a match.
  10. are the triggers (and connectors, springs etc) identical between the two? maybe with the shorter sight radius on the 19, you pay a little more attention to your sights and target? have you shot someone else's (unmodified) g34 to see if that one works better? or had someone else shoot both of your guns to see how they do?
  11. i prefer the stippling and the beavertails available on the gen 4's. see if you can find a range that rents both and give them a shot. or at least a shop or gunshow where you can compare without shooting them.
  12. the magnets can be a bit of a PITA if the hinges close back after the plates fall. i either have to hit them with a plate to dislodge/open or yank on them with my hands. reloading the plates with just spring tensioners is definitely easier.
  13. yes that was neat/cool, another one would be fun.
  14. yeah just call it an outlaw action shooting match or intro action shooting match or something like that. good on you for trying to get more folks in the competitive shooting sports!
  15. focus on efficiency, economy of movement. know what you are going to shoot and from where. nothing should be a surprise during your run.
  16. was going to order some stuff from either dawsons or shooters connection, anyone know/remember any BF deals?
  17. be safe and have fun at each stage let the RO know it's your first 3 gun and they should let you go last so you can see what everyone is doing. good luck!
  18. i just cut 'em out and put in new ones, but interested to hear what folks say.
  19. that's because surely you load your HD gun to 10+1 so that you fight like you train... haha on another note, all the games have their rules. if you use idpa to help you prepare for a real-world scenario and not just to win the game, the rules (and penalties/procedurals) don't matter much. i shoot ccp with a .45 and shot production with a 357 sig; clearly way overgunned for the game but some great practice with my hd and ccw guns.
  20. yep the velocity is squared and the mass is halved in the kinetic energy equation. the time for poppers to fall seems like a neat experiment, hope someone does that, or maybe someone already has. however, the reaction we want on poppers (quicker, more vicious fall) is generally the opposite reaction we want in our gun (ie we want less and not more recoil on the gun).
  21. i hate them just because i hate standing around 10, 15, 20, 25 etc seconds for one piece of steel. curious though, when the top is angled back slightly beyond 180 and gets hit, where does that round go?
  22. bil has one and had to send it back due to lotsa malfs. came back and works 100% but have only shot it i think one match since. another guy at last match has one and said it's been 100% from day one. certainly HATE to have problems with a gun that is some $500 more than a JP and some $1k more than a qc10 etc build, but as long as wilson fixes any problems and quick, guess that's not too bad.
  23. the bad thing with the wagons is that your guns are rolling around muzzling everyone and ditto, or at least more potential for, muzzling while putting on or taking off. the jogging strollers, with guns roughly at 45 degrees, lessen this likelihood due to the vertical angles. $20 or so used on craigslist then add the gun brackets etc.
