  1. good on you for being less than fully mobile yet getting out there and having fun!
  2. at some point you need to be classified (rated) to participate in major matches. in my experience, shooting regular matches is way more fun than doing the classifier, so i'd pick the match over the classifier. classifier does "teach" the basics though so good to do. strong hand, weak hand, barricade, moving forward and backward, etc.
  3. some stages will require you to shoot while moving, including some of the classifier strings. but generally you can post and shoot or go as slow or fast as you want, taking cover into consideration.
  4. HERESY!!! my one buddy always says beware the man with one gun, so yeah get something identical or close to what you use daily. but still, HERESY!
  5. Not saying that is or isn't the law, but if how you hold a firearm determines the legality, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
  6. limited, or l-10 if you want more reloading and stage planning. you'd be at a disadvantage in production with others shooting softer recoiling 9mm, unless you got minor power factor ammo. if you stay in limited, you can get mag extensions to be more competitive, the arrendondo +5's have worked great for me.
  7. ditto on targetsportsusa.com. free freight on case qty's and generally good prices to boot. but always check pricing on gunbot.net and ammoseek.com, and with both you have to look at each company's website for shipping costs as sometimes they list cheap and add a ton of freight.
  8. nah i read him the rule at the next match and he just remembered it wrong and apologized. if he had threatened me with a procedural or the like i'd be a little upset but he was just trying to keep me out of trouble.
  9. While I have the game guns for uspsa, at least at local idpa matches I try to use what I carry to get more familiar with them.
  10. yeah def download the reload mags by 1. i generally don't count but fill them to the brim and then just pop one out. funny though, definitely akin to the walk of shame. my BIL at his first larger match popped in the mag at make ready. RO said it looked like it wasn't seated. BIL says no it's an extended basepad. well it extended all the way to the dirt, pretty funny though he didn't think so at the time.
  11. i had a MD politely caution me i was breaking uspsa rules when i happened to have a mag in my hand airgunning with it during a stage walkthru. that said, we're all volunteers in this game, most of us have real fulltime jobs, and a mistake here and there is just going to happen. where i've heard some weird or unbelievable rules thrown down, i have gone thru the rule book and corrected the proclaimer of those rules, or in some cases, learned something new.
  12. i've asked a few times and have never been turned down. i do let them know that it won't interfere with taping, resetting etc because that's really the big prob, folks spending all their time reloading and getting ready vs helping out.
  13. the four pics on the bottom looked pretty blended!!!!!!!
  14. when you yahoos are shooting PCC's at the various matches, please make sure to make it look like you're NOT having fun. not sure my bank account (or wifey) can handle yet another division and all the guns & gear needed for it.
  15. definitely make sure your muffs are getting a good seal over your ears. i have the pro ears 300 and really like them. also have a pair of the howard leights but they sit on my ears while the pro-ears are wider/taller and go over my ears and are more comfy and more quiet. i have a steelmaster (wwb 115g minor) and just got a sti open gun (38 super) and both are fine with my pro-ears, at least outdoors.
  16. once I used the butane pencil torch it was well less than a minute. Just kept turning pressure on the screw and it finally broke free.
  17. my dirt bike jerseys have beads/lines of silicon on them that help grip the pants insides. maybe try that.
  18. Could always just get a full size version of your carry gun if you like that platform.
  19. max length would be way easier to monitor than # rounds in the gun, but definitely would not make me happy nor the "millions" of others with tubes that hold 9+ rounds. i've spent enough on this game and certainly don't want to spend more to diminish my capacity.
  20. input requested - 1911s (single stack) in .45 with full size grips (eg 8+1) that conform to CCP? springfield RO champ didn't see anything at dan wesson sti seems to be 4.15 - 4.25" sig was 4.25 wilson has some 4.0 what else, recommendations please, thanks
  21. i have this (56mm version, and MOAR reticle) on a LR bolt gun and have shot out to 1200 yards with no problems (other than my less than stellar wind calls), excellent scope, glass and everything.
  22. i revived a similar thread just a month or so ago. was able to remove a screw or two with heat from a match, but ended up buying a pencil butane torch (at lowe's) and applied it to the threaded ends of the remaining screws inside the frame and they finally broke free. with the new scope mount i went ahead and used red loctite as i didn't want the new mount/screws backing out. used blue on another mount and the oil and cleaning chems loosened them up over time.
