  1. check out 1911forum.com and the sti sub-forum. i have seem some holster makers mentioned there for the various 2011 guns.
  2. if you want a gun someone has 'touched,' also look at brazos and their hp edge. they do a trigger job and go over it for reliability, plus some upgraded parts. mine has been 100% no if's, and's or but's, with major power factor ammo, maybe one or two malfs when i've swapped out the spring and shoot .40 minor at steel matches. based on how well this shoots, sure their custom guns are pretty nice also.
  3. there is a thread or two on this somewhere here. lots get a $20 - 30 used jogging stroller on craigslist, add some long gun holders (like on ATV's) and do some light customization.
  4. i've bought a lot of the atlanta arms .40 reloads for uspsa shooting (and their .40 minor for steel matches). zero issues.
  5. they're pretty much the same. edge has bull barrel and full dust cover, marauder has a bushing barrel and has a rail if you ever want to add a light for home use or a night match. hit a 3 gun and/or uspsa match and you should be able to find a few folks with these that will let you play with them a little. where in wva are you? if you are near peacemaker i can bring my edge and eagle (real similar to marauder but no light rail) for you to check out at one of their matches.
  6. check out the midwayusa drag bags. they have a foam divider and can fit two long guns side by side. plus pockets for other stuff. on sale frequently.
  7. i run two invictus that hold 8 each, front center of my belt. if more than that are needed normally someone is nice enough to loan me their chest rig. i have a 3rd one that holds 8 and thinking about somehow strapping it to my leg. frankly i think it's bs to have to do more than one full tube reload on a stage, and the shell carriers are outrageously expensive. way too much space taken up and while i know we do this for fun, i still like a little practicality and can't see anyone (ie MIL or LEO) running around with a bunch of shells on them and reloading while taking incoming fire.
  8. congrats and welcome to the sport! yeah you have to shoot fast and accurate to do well in this game, but logistics/economy of movement are a huge part of it. not taking extra steps, reloading while moving vs standing still, not getting surprised by targets you know are there, etc.
  9. thanks malcolm! since i am in zero hurry though i think i am going to hang out a little and hope for somewhat of a sale.
  10. most i've seen say no switching out anything meaningful. below is from mid-atlantic multi gun rules. as noted above, see what the rules of the match you're doing say. 4. Firearms 4.3 Participants must use the same firearms (handgun, rifle and shotgun) for the entire event. 4.3.1 If a participant's firearm becomes unserviceable, that participant may replace their firearm with another of a substantially similar model, caliber and sighting system only with the approval of the Range Master(s). 4.4 Participants MAY NOT reconfigure any firearm during the course of the event. Explicitly prohibited acts include changing caliber, barrel length, shotgun magazine tube length, sighting systems and/or stock style. Explicitly permitted acts include changing of chokes, installing or removing support devices (e.g. bipods), 3 gun nation rules say basically the same thing.
  11. if that was by my name it surely would be for geezer... no one has ever confused me with a GM!
  12. i have the echo pivlok elite above. nice glass but not something i'd wear around as regular sunglasses. for uspsa and other handgun competitions they work great but for prone shooting (3 gun and PRS) they just seem to get in the way.
  13. i forget which club now, but somewhere in md or pa i think, one of the MD's was making some sort of roof/blockade out of some plastic-y cardboard (coroplast or something like that) that sat on top of the target sticks and blocked the targets from rain. they worked pretty good but because they caught the wind the target stands really had to be nailed down. man i hate scoring and pasting under bagged targets!
  14. guys at JP told me they use the cheapest 9mm ammo available in their 9mm carbines. $260/case is WAY above cheap. last winter with fed's rebate i bought a couple cases of their 115g at like 190-200/case shipped from targetsportsusa and then the fed 25% rebate off of that. also couple of cases of blazer aluminum from PSA @$160/case shipped.
  15. anyone know of any going on or coming up? thinking about buying a backup upper from them. thanks!
  16. got a thick leather belt at a gun show years ago, still works fine. good opportunity to look, feel and try on.
  17. 5.2.3 below says shoot thru's count. 5.2.5 does say crown or grease marks are needed, but guessing this applies to ricochets, shots thru walls or barriers, etc. https://www.3gunnation.com/rules/#targets 5.2.3 When a shot passes through any 3GN paper target, then continues on to hit another target(s), all hit targets will be counted for score and or penalty. 5.2.5 Evidence of the actual bullet, buckshot pellet or slug hole must be present on the target with a crown or grease ring marks on the hole.
  18. yeah but you don't have to drive some 30+ hours to go elk hunting!!! maybe not even 1??
  19. six stages why not six squads? i'm fortunate to have three clubs right at the one hour mark (each way) for me. occasionally i'll hit two more at the two hour mark. in prior years i have driven 2.5-3 hours each way to find a match but lately have just found something else other than shooting to do vs 5-6 hours on the road.
  20. apparently, with your ABC's, or at least spell check... ahahaha
  21. yep, unfortunately approx 45 minutes north, in wv, is a new uspsa club, shadow hawk. also does falling steel. peacemaker national (pntc) is right down the street from shadow hawk. not uspsa but they do 2 & 3 gun, steel challenge, super steel (uspsa style falling steel matches), prs, kahr handgun (uspsa-like), etc. don't think either club though is doing anything uspsa-like that 3rd weekend.
  22. based on the pcc rules addendum, no prohibition against carrying pcc during walk throughs, or carrying it or slinging it all day. flagged, muzzle up or down. after i've run a COF and my pcc is flagged, i sometimes follow the RO around, carrying my pcc vertical, to check my targets.
  23. PCC 5.2.1 Except when within the boundaries of a safety area, or when under the supervision and direct command of a Range Officer, competitors must carry their pistol caliber carbine: PCC 5.2.1.1 Detachable magazines removed. PCC 5.2.1.2 Competitors must use a chamber safety flag, or clear chamber device, that is easily visible externally to the gun when transporting from vehicles or stage to stage. Anyone found in violation of this rule will be immediately escorted by a Range Officer to a suitable range or safety area where appropriate corrective action shall be made. PCC 5.2.1.3 Un-cased pistol caliber carbines must be carried shouldered or slung from the shoulder or held in the hands with the firearm reasonably vertical. Match Directors may require this to be "vertically upwards" or "vertically downwards" providing this is made clear to all competitors in a reasonable manner.
  24. 8.7.2 Competitors are prohibited from using any guns or gun replicas as sighting aids while conducting their inspection (“walkthrough”) of a course of fire. Violations will incur one procedural penalty per occurrence (also see Rule 10.5.1). doesn't say can't carry, but can't use as sighting aid.
  25. yes most (that i've seen) factory ammo velocities are from 24" barrels. chrono your load out of your gun. but really, need to shoot at the various distances and see where you're actually hitting, that is solid data you can use at your matches. between optimistic ballistic coefficients, improper measurements (scope height over bore), etc, can't just blindly rely on your ballistics program.
