  1. yeah i have some that fall out from time to time with not a lot of pressing on them. guess if the plastic holders are set too tight, that would result in fumbled loadings. i take shells out between stages and definitely at the end of matches so the plastic doesn't widen over time. one of the reasons i hate the high round count shotgun stages. just not very practical to carry all those shells around, and especially if a md wants to throw in a slung rifle start... especially when we have rifles and handguns on us with mags that hold 20-30 rounds with pretty much zero chance of popping out.
  2. yep, no substitute for actually shooting at various distances and seeing where you hit.
  3. handgun rules apply where there isn't specific language in pcc rules. so just like not whipping it out of the holster before make ready, the pcc should be left in the same position as when you left the line at the last stage (vertical and flagged, or bagged).
  4. it really is a good idea to go over the basics with any new shooters. some clubs have a class or just a 15-30 minute safety and rules review for new shooters. with or without that, still a good idea to prep and coach new shooters on the basics (holstering, drawing, 180, finger, etc). at a recent 3 gun match we had a brand new guy break the 180 with a shottie while pulling it out of a barrel (had to run back uprange to grab it). never came close to pointing it at anyone but broke the 180 rule and he was dq'd. i feel if we had gone over some risks at the stage, this wouldn't have happened.
  5. two different animals. there is specific a.d. during reload, irrespective of where the round goes. zero mud from my perspective. was he reloading, did he let a round go while doing so, then 2.2.3 applies for a dq.
  6. 2.0 DISQUALIFICATIONS A Disqualification (DQ) will result in complete disqualification from the event and the competitor will not be allowed to continue. 2.2.3 A shot which occurs while loading, reloading or unloading a firearm after the "Make Ready" command and before the "Range is Clear" command. seems pretty clear that letting one go while reloading is a dq.
  7. rules: http://nebula.wsimg.com/5f6aef720c5ff0535a7f4119c14ed2dc?AccessKeyId=AA5794DCCFFD38D924E2&disposition=0&alloworigin=1 no limitation on mag or tube size, just the round count limitations below. everyone should also be aware of the 4" pvc rule below. 5.3.4 Shotgun 5.3.5.1 Only tubular magazines are permitted. 5.3.5.2 Electronic or optical sights are prohibited. 5.3.5.3 Supporting devices (bipods, etc.) are prohibited. 5.3.5.4 Barrel devices designed/intended to reduce recoil or muzzle movement (e.g. compensators, barrel porting) are prohibited. 5.3.5.5 Speed loading devices and/or detachable box magazines are prohibited. 5.3.5.6 Magazine tube extensions are permitted. 5.4.5.7 Not more than nine (9) rounds total may be loaded at the beginning of any stage 5.3.3 Rifle 5.3.3.1 Not more than one (1) electronic or optical sight is permitted. 5.3.3.2 A supplemental magnifier may be used with the permitted optical sight provided the magnifier does not contain an aiming reticle and cannot be used as an aiming device by itself, and remains mounted in the same location on the rifle for the duration of the event. A participant may use the magnifier in either the magnified or unmagnified mode without restriction. 5.3.3.3 Supporting devices such as bipods and silo bags are specifically prohibited. All other devices attached to the forend must fit inside of a 18” piece of 4” diameter schedule 40 PVC pipe when fully deployed or unfolded. This includes barricade stops, angled foregrips, and backup iron sights. If the pipe fails to fit all the way back to the scope, scope mount or magazine well the competitor will be moved to the open division. 5.3.3.4 Compensators and muzzle brakes may not exceed 1 inch in diameter and 3 inches in length (as measured from the barrel muzzle to the end of the compensator). 5.3.3.4 Drum magazines are prohibited. Coupled magazines are permitted (no more than two may be coupled together). 5.3.3.5 Magazines may not be loaded with more than 30 rounds at any time after the start signal. Magazines utilized during a course of fire that have more than 30 rounds will result in the competitor being moved to the open division.
  8. eh, they hold perfectly. does help to velcro the backs of the various attachments (mag pouches and shell caddies), so velco is touching velcro all the way around. with decent overlap in the back, and a belt keeper over that, nothing is coming loose or off. i did order a pair of those tmms thingies. would be nice to be able to easily remove the two shell caddies in the front for prone stages. very uncomfortable and/or something's gonna break.
  9. yeah when it says fully seated against back of chair, i've had my belt catch under the backrest of the chair.
  10. nothing like a little reach around to get the blood flowing before a match!
  11. hit a match or two or three before you start buying stuff. most everyone will be more than happy to show you what they have and how it works for them. myself, i just use the typical uspsa dual layer belt (inner belt goes thru belt loops, outer belt has holster, mag pouches, shell caddies, etc on it and just velcro's over the inner belt, outer belt is oriented so the ends/overlap are at the rear, not the front). you generally don't want a belt buckle or the like up front as that takes up valuable real estate where shell caddies can go.
  12. hey you found my stolen gun, can you ship it to me please, thanks, george g casing II. yeah looks like a custom build as noted above.
  13. i normally draw while starting to move, but in either case, my hand is definitely on the gun before or as i start moving, so that it doesn't pop out unexpectedly. and when holstering, i look the gun into the holster, and especially with my open holster, i look and double look and wiggle it to ensure it is indeed in place. and at least in your situation, while you drove a long way, it wasn't primarily for the match but for another occasion. still sucks though...
  14. just fyi i have some arredondo +5's on some of my g17 mags and they work great.
  15. i shoot both but prefer uspsa because overall round count is generally higher and stages are longer (idpa max is 18 rounds while uspsa is 32 rounds). just bring what you got and give it a try. same concept as idpa, shoot fast and accurate. and yes shoot limited minor for a couple of matches so you can load up your mags so you don't have to worry as intently over when and where to reload.
  16. well since you have nothing in mind, just pick a 'free' state to do a match in. even the so-called 'free state,' maryland, despite being mostly anti-2a, allows >10 round mags although you can't buy them there. why contribute to the economy of a state that infringes on our 2a rights...
  17. swfa is showing 15% off for all vortex products
  18. normally pcc starts in hands and handgun is holstered, so there is precedence for doing it differently. so pcc on table and handgun holstered is same concept with starting differently.
  19. wow do they give you lunch halfway thru the stage??!!
  20. match description says: Ten stages. Round count: starts at 310 but that all depends on accuracy! so roughly 31 targets per stage but a lot of us don't go one for one. so even in a target-heavy stage, and lotsa misses, yeah four super big sticks should get anyone thru any of the stages. i will be bringing 2x the minimum, again a miss or two or ten, reshoot, etc. i will be working and shooting the match, see you there!
  21. yeah if true that's a little (maybe a lot) over the top, who is going to be lobbing slugs at the enemy, out of an un-scoped smoothbore nonetheless, especially when they have AR's in their hands...
  22. not liking the "hook" and sharp edges, seems like it could get caught on something.
  23. on advice of a few fellow shooters, i recent got the peltor tep-100's. few matches with them including 2 gun, so far so good. not uncomfortable, decent noise reduction, decent ability to hear talk and conversations. glad i got them. also have been using the pro-ears which i really like but just didn't want all that on my head especially in summer heat.
  24. hit a range that rents guns and try a bunch. and hit a few uspsa or 3 gun matches and see what everyone is shooting. most will let you fondle their guns if not actually shoot them. that said, glocks are a good choice, very reliable and a ton of aftermarket gear and accessories at decent prices. and among glocks, 17 or 34 are great choices.
