  1. when i said 'all' really it is just a couple of new shooters per match, and they move around and shoot in openings when available, so pretty unobtrusive and little to no holdups.
  2. one local club squads all new shooters together and runs them in a separate squad with experienced ro's and lots of coaching. short orientation before that. seems like a good way to do it. myself included, we all need to do a better job of identifying newbies and going over the basic safety (muzzle downrange, finger outside trigger guard, etc) and procedural issues so they have fun and don't go home early.
  3. didn't see any mention of hoods/straps needing to be used in the 2018 uspsa multi-gun rules, if that rule is there, where is it? why are you guys all keen on having hoods etc engaged at the start of multigun matches? it's a dumb rule in uspsa, my guess is they just didn't want any loose straps getting in the way of holstering or drawing. i never engage my hood if i'm starting with handgun but almost always engage it if starting with another gun. why not just let the shooter choose what works for them? and let's be honest, the more futzing folks have to do on the draw, the higher the likelihood of something going wrong.
  4. yep just light it off in the berm. of course make real sure no pasters are 'jumping the gun' heading downrange to get started pasting.
  5. it's actually less than a third, with all the extra shotgun crap (caddies, shot, slugs, chokes, etc)... before you start shooting at the match, go find the chrono table and have them check your mags, again before you start shooting.
  6. i emailed dnroi a year or two ago and yes a hood needs to be engaged if it is present for uspsa. i haven't seen a ruleset yet for 3 gun that has this type of rule (though i don't shoot uspsa multigun so who knows about that one). and btw, the rules don't have to say it is NOT necessary, they have to say it IS necessary.
  7. i'd send both back to the builder asap. you mess with them at all and then anything else wrong with these will be construed as being your fault. not having the gun fire when applying the safety or having it engaged is pretty basic stuff.
  8. not sure why they don't make 140 or 170mm mags, seems like there would be a decent demand between uspsa and 3 gun, etc. especially prob being way cheaper than all the various mag extensions.
  9. Congrats! I have one, among other sti's, and love it/them. I have dropped Brazos trigger kits into 3 of mine, a definite improvement.
  10. https://mailchi.mp/d80f7dd31e19/heres-whats-going-on?e=5727d8e3f4 western penna sends out an email with upcoming matches, etc
  11. look up white horse range. right off 79 south of you. they do 3 gun matches there. don't think they do uspsa or the like, and not sure if they allow dynamic practice, but can't hurt to ask. they have a free 100yd rifle range and it's $10/day to hit their 600yd range (where they do 3 gun, between the various berms). they also can go out to 1k.
  12. think you can find both matches and clubs in practiscore by typing in zip code and think same for uspsa website.

so how much are these fully upgraded x5's costing all-in (without optics)? approaching 2011 prices?
  14. 6 - 7, prob wouldn't hit a match with less, when i take the time to hit a match, i want to shoot, a lot!
  15. hit a PRS match or two or three and check out all the rifles, and scopes. best way to see what might work for you. most everyone will let you fondle their rifles and scopes and some if not most will let you even shoot them (after the match or in down time).
  16. yes. i've been short beeped, long beeped and also gone from are you ready to beep, and also had are you ready skipped. in all cases i asked RO to restart from the beginning and of course that's what they did.
  17. ask to look thru everyone's scopes at your next match. that said, the vortex 1-6 is a popular choice. i have one with the jm reticle. unfortunately it doesn't match the ammo i'm using but with some range time i've figured out where to hold to get hits. i also have a bushnell elite 1-6.5, think i like the vortex a little better, think the glass is clearer.
  18. https://practiscore.com/3gn-shotgun-pcc-pistol-match-at-ontelaunee/register the practiscore registration page shows a 0900 start but not sure if that is hammer down or safety brief
  19. anyone trying/liking the hornady 68g hpbt frontier match? looks to be sub $.45/round.
  20. i've been using black hills blue box 69g smk reloads. happy with them but need to re-stock and wouldn't mind spending less. any feedback on the prvi match 69's? what else works as good or better than the bh for 3 - 500yds but is less expensive? i would like 68 - 69g vs 75 just as a little faster and closer to my scope's bdc lines (not that the 69's are close now...).

while the shorter ones do, my edge barrel isn't coned.

yeah at least IMO, in ESP they should just perhaps just stipulate overall weight and size, and no optics or comps, and leave it at that, mostly equating to Limited in USPSA. while idpa is primarily carry-based, most folks don't keep their bug guns on their night stands but more so, full size handguns, so let's get some practice with those also.

sti eagle with bushing bbl (though no longer being produced i believe). and isn't the prohibition against 'heavy' barrels, not necessarily barrels labeled as 'bull'? eg sig 320x5?
  24. oh i thought the challenge with snow fence walls was shooting thru the holes in them, i mean, why leave holes in them if they don't want you shooting thru them... ahaha
  25. yeah i thought the wall rules were akin to fault lines. you can go over and around them etc but just can't shoot while doing so (at least without penalty).
