  1. yep same thing here, 55's within 200 and then 69's after that. just like using one bullet, have to know where everything hits at various distances. on stages with short and far targets i try to topload my mag with 55's for the req'd number of close targets, just to save a few bucks.

well maybe my nomenclature is incorrect, but to me a port is a slit cut in a barrel (ie glock "C" models) vs a single or multi port comp added to the end of a barrel.

don't think i've seen even one ported barrel used in open. well maybe a guy shooting his ported glock or m&p carry gun.

possibly meant that ported barrels aren't used in open, vs comps
  5. yep half the reason i compete/play in uspsa, 3 gun, etc is it is super fun, the other half is to improve proficiency with the firearms my life may depend on.
  6. i'd say after one's first full season is a good time to get certified as RO. that way you have some actual experience that helps put the rules and theory in context. other than sitting inside in class and missing a weekend of actual competitive shooting, really no downside to taking the class. doesn't matter how fast or slow or good or bad you are. but everyone should really read thru the rules a couple of times a year, amazing what gets forgotten or mixed up, especially for some of us that play multiple games.
  7. i hope that it's not true as i hate when folks blame their fu's on someone or everyone else, but would be interesting to see the actual case if true.
  8. meant to dissuade some super fast guys from intentionally ignoring a target that may be out of the way. uspsa scoring is points per second (hit factor) and occasionally you'll see some guys that have misses, hit no shoots, or the like and still win that stage or match or at least place high because they are blazing fast.
  9. shoot your g35 in limited, where you'll get major power factory with most factory loads? personally i prefer the 17 over the 34-size, draws and points a little faster. and also personally, i'd just buy a new g17 or 34 rather than swap stuff around and chance something getting mixed up. plus now you'll have TWO complete glocks!
  10. as noted above, ONE FTE (per target) and two mikes (for each of the two required hits that aren't showing on the target). not two of each.
  11. frankly imo it's ridiculous we have to have this discussion. sure, make everyone do a full (~ 8 rounds) reload on the clock because why not, but having to schlep around more than 8-10 shells is just crazy. all the real estate it takes up. the insane cost of the shell caddies. the complete insecurity of holding shot shells vs the high security of rifle and pistol magazines and mag pouches. shottie is just impractical in the ammo form factor vs 20 round pistol mags and 30 round rifle mags. ok, rant over.

anyone know the outside diameter of the 9mm barrel at the muzzle?
  13. love my pro ears. way more comfy than the howard leights. hasn't gotten in the way of rifle/shotgun shooting (3 gun etc). i did finally have a headband break after many years of many matches. that said i'm looking at electronic plugs just so i can wear golf/boonie hats during the summer to get a little more sun protection.
  14. for the walkers and peltors above, 1) how long do the batteries work before needing recharging (do they last a full match), and 2) how well do they work in 3 gun (ie ar15 and ar10 rifle noise)?
  15. anyone have any idea if Federal might be re-running their 2017 handgun ammo rebate again this year? didn't want to load up (yes i'm of six on this forum that don't reload...) if a rebate is forthcoming.
  16. bil had the same issue yesterday, zeroing his jp ctr (with the sd3g dropped in) off a bench, occasional double tap.
  17. it's fun, just do it. no 'graduating' from a 'lower' division necessary. at your next match, ask an open shooter or two or three if you can shoot their guns. run a stage with them and see how it feels/works for you. reimburse them for ammo. discontinued now but look for sti steel master, works great with plain ol' winchester white box 9mm minor.
  18. i used a file to deepen the channels on my versa's
  19. i contacted rudy about two years ago regarding their certs and here is their reply. they might have added more cert'd glasses since then. We have a Rydon stealth and Magster stealth edition with the z87+ stamp certification
  20. check out each brand/model's specs/ratings (ansi etc). i believe the highest rating is MIL. when i looked i was surprised to find some had little to no real ratings. https://www.wileyx.com/About/support/faqs
  21. it does throw some confusion into the mix. did i hit #2 or #3, which one bounced back up, etc? or you hit it and move on and then at end of cof see one standing and hit it again. even if it's only a fraction of a second, guessing most folks are distracted/affected when a plate pops back up.
  22. definitely an upgrade but again the triggers are decent from the factory. no gunsmith by any means but i installed three of them by myself. i did have to file each a little for the existing safety to fit/work. i have a brazos hp edge so opened that one up and compared thumb safety's to see where to file. but guessing there's a youtube for that or you could figure out by wear marks. obviously test afterwards to ensure the safety you're relying on is indeed reliable.
  23. haven't seen one of those yet. if it doesn't have a fiber optic front sight, consider getting one. also while the STI's have nice triggers, on my STI's where a smith hasn't worked on the trigger, i have dropped in the Brazos trigger kits.
  24. while i haven't hesitated to buy any box-stock STI's, i also have a brazos hp edge and that is a great call. it's gone over by a professional 3rd party with any kinks fixed before you get it. the edge doesn't have a rail though if that is important to you. i don't think brazos offers their HP package on any other guns but perhaps that has changed.
