Finally read the FAQs

Finally read the FAQs (3/11)

  1. Patriot Defense sells them, and they're the biggest gunsmith that does custom work on them too.
  2. I've heard people mention in the past that by talking to EAA they were able to buy Gold Team uppers for ~$800 if I recall correctly, but EAA's customer service is iffy at best, so there's an overwhelmingly high chance you'll get told you can't buy one from them without buying a whole gun. I've also heard Tanfoglio is behind quite a bit right now, so I'd say that's probably gonna be unobtainium in the short term. Plus, there's a really high demand for Gold Team 9mm uppers specifically because people like to put them on Elite Limited/Limited Custom lowers to make full dust cover Open guns.
  3. Factory Tanfoglio compensators are threaded on, so they're not technically permanently attached.
  4. @kneelingatlas would be the fella to ask, but Gold Teams don't come with the front slot cut into them for a front sight. Elite Limiteds and other competition framed models typically come with a slot at the very front of the slide cut in, where the front sight can be pressed backwards into it, and set with a set screw. Shy of getting custom work done, which you could probably have done at Patriot Defense if you asked them, there is no way to put a front sight on that pistol. The dovetail slot where your charging handle fits to your slide is where the rear sight would sit, so you'd need to remove the charging handle if you wanted to use iron sights as well.
  5. Update: I got impatient and swung out to the range on my way to work this morning. I got myself all worked up yesterday reading threads of people sticking comps on 9 minor guns only to hit a sweet spot where they needed a light recoil spring to get the slide to cycle back all the way, but then the spring would be too light to effectively feed rounds from the magazine and go into battery all the way. Hand cycling rounds yesterday by hitting the slide release I had some troubles at first with rounds sticking when they had only fed about halfway into the chamber with the lighter recoil springs, but that problem also seemed to improve as I kept doing that throughout the day, so I guess the feed ramp just needed a little wearing in. So this morning I put in the 11lb Patriot Defense Hybrid recoil spring and set out to zero my C-More and diagnose any cycling issues I might have. Turns out it runs like a top! To my relief, I ran two 28 round magazines of Federal and CCI 115gr factory ammo through it and got it zeroed this morning without a hitch. It's probably in large part the fact that I chose the EGW Bianchi Cup/Steel Challenge compensator instead of a 9 Major comp. I was paying especially close attention to see if any of the rounds felt sluggish going into battery, but it was smooth as could be the whole time (to my relief). And talk about recoil reduction, between the lightened slide and the comp it's ridiculously flat shooting! Now I'm going to try some of the lighter recoil springs, because the one thing I did notice was that I was pulling about 1/5th of my shots low, which could just be me acclimating to the lower recoil and driving the gun down, but I think more likely it's the heavier recoil spring slapping forward and making the gun return low instead of returning to zero perfectly. I have 12, 11, 10, 9, and 8lb springs to play with so I'm going to see if it still feeds reliably with a lighter spring. At this point I'm just supremely relieved that worst case scenario it will cycle reliably with the 11lb spring so even if the lighter springs are too weak I can just adjust my grip and cadence to get used to the new recoil impulse. Also running the charging handle off the left side it didn't hit my thumb resting on the safety, so I can put those fears to rest too. All in all I'm extremely happy with the work @PatriotDefensedid, and I highly recommend this as an option to anybody looking to convert their Limited Custom or Elite Limited to an Open gun.
  6. C-More advertises Railways as having 800 MOA of windage and elevation, and judging by how much the dot moves when I turn the adjustment screws I believe them. Every time I nudge the screws it goes like 20 MOA in that direction. Thank goodness they have set screws!
  7. That's really interesting. Yeah, I did some more looking, and it definitely looks like it only tilts downwards just as it locks up. I never figured that sight height would be a reason to modify an action, but that's the 1900s for ya. I'll let you know this weekend, it's still dark much too early for me to swing by the range on my way home.
  8. Knowing C-Mores I'll be fine, although I have been thinking about switching to Holosun 510c...
  9. It is angled slightly downwards. I had to take the barrel out just now and look down it to make sure it wasn't the comp set crooked, but I think the whole barrel must point slightly downward when it locks up.
  10. After waiting impatiently to convert my Elite Limited into a proper open gun I finally got her put together! The latchkey part I was waiting on was the @PatriotDefense threaded coned barrel, and it seems to fit like a dream. While they had my gun I also had them give it a slide lightening cut, which also turned out amazingly. Great work on their part for only having my gun 3 weeks! Here's her parts list: Tanfoglio Elite Limited Patriot Defense Barrel EGW Titanium Comp (modified by PD) Henning Flat Trigger Henning Grips Taylor Freelance Mag Extensions I call her my SHINY AND CHROME WITNESS in honor of Mad Max Fury Road, open to suggestions for a real name I picked up a handful of PD's hybrid recoil springs too, so we'll see if I can't get her cycling when I finally get to take her out this weekend. I'll report on that as soon as I can. She may not be the sleekest open conversion out there with the weaver mount, but hey, she's mine!
  11. I'm no GM, and I know my technique isn't "correct" but I've made some big improvements this last season by using my thumbrest to pinch the gun between my thumb and my forefinger on the bottom of the trigger guard. It definitely moves my support hand forward, but it really helps me lock in my grip on the gun, and gives me a lot more control than a standard offhand grip. Experiences may vary though.
  12. I might be old fashioned, but I still prefer C-Mores just for their ability to use 6+ MOA diodes. While I do like the 65 MOA circle in my Holosun for my 3-gun rifle, there are a lot of steels at my local clubs that are small enough that a 65 MOA circle is too big to use effectively, and the 1/2 MOA dots are too small to use quickly. It's definitely a personal preference thing though.
  13. I think it'll make a fun Tacops/Limited gun, and maybe a suppressor host if I can find a threaded barrel for it.
  14. I have another one for you wizards, I just bought this recently and I don't even know what to call it other than a witness. It's an old Large Frame, that much is clear. I'm scared to even ask if anyone makes a holster for this anymore, but I think it'll fit the same grips as the old Witness Match.
