  1. the md overrode your dq without talking with you first, or was the shooter lying about that? i wouldn't call his attitude casual, i'd call it almost if not actually criminal. and i would have gone straight to the md after the dq and had him walked from the premises.
  2. yep, all these things, plus low cost of entry (gun and mags)
  3. atlanta arms reload .40 (regular, not their long) has been 100% perfect in my edge, no need to pay more for their new ammo, not that their reloads are cheap.
  4. if there is loose clothing around the holster, i always say something. most are appreciative, but yeah some aren't. i'd still rather be the safety nazi than the guy calling 911.
  5. especially with new shooters in my squad, i try to warn of various dangers on a stage, such as running uprange, and how to do it safely.
  6. how about a dawson supertuned sti dvc 3 gun if you want something a little different/nicer without a monster price tag. the dawson supertuned eagle and brazos hp edge i have are both perfect, and my other stock sti's are pretty close. i've seen atlases and ck's not run perfectly, so not too many brands are immune from hiccups.
  7. the downside to 9mm in uspsa limited is you are shooting minor power factor so have a slight scoring disadvantage. so most shoot 40 in limited to not have that scoring disadvantage. 9mm is perfect for 2 & 3 gun and the various steel matches that don't have major power factor scoring. that said, 9mm is fun and cheap and lower recoil so go for it!
  8. so if COF says mandatory reload between arrays, or shoot one array, mandatory reload, then shoot next array, what happens if one shoots the first array, reloads, then takes a makeup shot or shots on the first array either before or after engaging the 2nd array? i've had a MD say once a reload is done that satisfies any future reload requirements but then another say that reloads are required when switching back and forth between arrays.
  9. i think the benefit of a brazos hp or dawson supertuned is that they go over the gun and if it isn't perfect, they either send it back, make it perfect, or pick another gun out of their inventory. no gambling. i have both and they're awesome, and also pretty happy with my other sti's that haven't been touched outside of sti. i have had to send two back, but they were fixed and in short order, no hassle, no bs, shipping covered both ways.
  10. two things. first you have to know, from actual shooting/testing, where you hit at various distances. zero at 50, 100, 200, whatever, but then shoot out to your max distance in 50yd increments and see where you are actually hitting, and write down where you need to hold to impact at those distances. related, you need fairly accurate ammo. i just cheaper blaster ammo inside 100 or so yards but then 69g match ammo out past that. you should be able to get 2" groups at 100yds, and preferably half that. find what works in your rifle. 2nd is how steady is your reticle on the target? obviously if you're floating around, you won't have great accuracy. if you just have a crap milspec trigger, consider upgrading. it's a LOT easier to hold steady with a light, crisp trigger than when it feels like sandpaper or rocks. personally i love the geissele ssa-e two stage triggers. pull it all the way thru when engaging close blaster targets, then one stage at a time on the long range stuff. i try to jam the magwell into something (tree, fence, barricade, etc) and lean into it to get it steady. ok, i guess 3 things...
  11. bogus dq. however, I would have asked if i could resume make ready after the issue was resolved and everyone was back behind the line, just to avoid any doubt. the whole hands on head thing is just stupid. if you're going to be that irrational, just unload the shooter. we're running around with loaded guns, have stages with uprange starts, and yet can't trust a shooter to keep it in the holster after being told to do so while folks are downrange fixing a target...
  12. last two idpa matches with my sti tactical i ran 9mm blazer aluminum 147 with no issues. have been running fed am eagle and blazer brass 124 thru my 9mm sti eagle with no issues.
  13. in the wsb, highlight or bold anything that isn't status quo. unloaded start, 3 shots per target, etc. or as mentioned above, discuss changes from normal at the safety brief.
  14. for stock glock mags, including the plus 2, look up GTUL. it compresses the sides so that the base plate can slide out of the slots. makes it pretty easy.
  15. i got a nordic oversized bolt release button for both my m2 and sbe2. i just sorta screwed it into the existing hole in the existing bolt release, didn't drill & tap, so most likely trashed the threads, but used loctite and it's stayed firmly in there. i've just stuck with the factory charging handles for both, didn't feel a need to change.
  16. i have a brazos hp edge and really can't see any other guns shooting any better, more reliable or more accurate. my guess is with the others you can customize them more to your liking, which may help you shoot them better than the brazos hp edge.
  17. i have both. pretty easy to load the sbe2, never felt the need to have any port/lifter work done. the prob with the sbe2, mine at least, is that it is sprung to handle 3.5" loads, so it ran good but not perfectly with 2.75" shells (walmart 4 packs). it did run perfectly with the higher velocity winchester super sports. i guess you could re-spring it, not sure. the other prob with my sbe2 was that poi is way off from poa with slugs. i actually just sent it in to hopefully have that fixed, 30 days before they even look at it.
  18. i have the old school versions of both, the edge and eagle (just 5" though). they're both awesome guns. you might appreciate the longer sight radius of the 3g being 5.5". also, that has a rail if you want to add a light to it.
  19. congrats on stepping up and doing a match! yes, addictive...and expensive

yep, 'should' not equal to 'must.'
  21. will have to check out the mods. mine is a little tight with the new sti mags.
  22. canik tp9sfx with viper red dot, <$700. super cheap 9mm ammo. load up your mags in carry optics. have fun. if you do want to load up mags without a dot, glock 35 in limited, factory .40 ammo. factory ammo will be hotter than most handloads others use that just make power factor, so you will have a recoil disadvantage. atlanta arms sells lower recoil ammo but more $$ than factory .40. but yeah a glock 17 or 34 in production is a great and lower cost entry option. so you have an extra mag change or two or three vs other divisions.
