Vortex PST II vs Steiner P4Xi vs Burris XTR II
davsco replied to polymerfeelsweirdman's topic in Rifle - Technical
well the steiner better not suck as i just ordered one, without the opportunity to look thru it first. just wanted something lighter for a lighter ar-15 build i just did. what i know i don't like about it is it has a bdc reticle set up for a 200yd zero. this rifle will be used mostly if not exclusively in bay stages (ie 50yd max), occasionally going out to 300yds. depending on how far the 200 yard zero is off from ~25yd poi, i may just zero it at 25 or so and put up with some weird holds at 100-300yds. -
unfortunately, 180 dq is a judgment call. i'd guess there are very very few who could accurately spray paint a 180 line 20+ yards from the back berm. i've handed out my share of 180 dq's but they were clearly well past 180. in most cases, folks running from right to left and doing normal reloads which points the gun left of their path and thus uprange at least a little.

ok can anyone rank dot brightness on steiner, razor2 hd (have one, just looking to put all these in perspective), meopta and vortex pst please???
-
just curious which you have that fit, do you have an edge which is relatively wide
-
meopta, huh. not familiar at all but just checking reviews all are pretty positive. was hoping with 1-6 and now 1-8 out there, that 1-4 would have a big price haircut, but apparently not.
-
i'm looking for a scope for a 3 gun rifle that will only get used in bays, mostly within 25yds but occasionally clays or head shots at 50yds, so i need just a little magnification with my old eyes. a 1-4 should be plenty and with some reading, the steiner seems to get good reviews but i haven't seen/handled any in person. i have a vortex razor 2 hd 1-6 on my main 3 gun rifle but i don't want to spend anywhere near that $$, maybe $5-600 range at most. i really want something for quick target acquisition 85% of the time with occasional 50yd somewhat precise shooting. first question, is the dot on the steiner as bright as the razor? 2nd, anything that better fills the bill?

which of your 2011's fit in that holster? have you tried an 'open' holster? check out double alpha race master magnetic, works great for my various sti 2011's. it keys on the trigger guard and holds them very sturdily. for my edge (and eagle) i have a blade tech doh/sting ray holster that fits them just fine. the edge is pretty wide so thinking it will also fit your dvc ltd. and i also have a blade tech wrs (for 3 gun) that fits both my edge and eagle.

yeah i just bought two sets of their 'enhanced' upper/handguard combo's. remind me of the mega's almost monolithic sets.

start competing and playing gun games!!!!! at least try a couple (uspsa, idpa, steel challenge, falling steel). super fun and super addictive.
-
definitely this. <$600 and you need different mags anyway, and chance of bringing wrong barrel, ammo etc to a match, or worse, mixing them up, ain't worth it. personally, gen 4, ghost or other connector, polish it all, lighter spring kit, and you will be good to go. warren/sevigny fiber optic front and wide notch rear.
-
yeah sign up asap so the match doesn't fill up and you can't fit in. but def withdraw asap as soon as you know you won't be going so others can take your spot. generally there is one stage per bay, you shoot that one and go to the next bay/stage.
-
i guess not everyone is familiar with their multitudes of model numbers, or that their model numbers are tied to calibers unlike some other brands. no harm in citing model and caliber when asking a question.
-
yeah i was going to say put a big safe in that closet, prob cheaper and less work though perhaps less room for your guns. need to consider floor load, probably in either scenario.
-
what rjh said. for most of my guns i have enough mags to get me thru a match and i do load them at home nite before just to have less distractions at the match. especially with ro-ing and the like, it's easy to get distracted or run out of time.
-
yeah i sorta remember doing a fixed time classifier, paper at 50 yds, wasn't my favorite stage...

Accuracy Good but still finishing below middle of the pack!

no-shoots and misses are costly. a no-shoot wipes away two A hits on another target. a miss also costs you two A hits, plus you don't get points on that shot you missed. as noted above, actually shooting is a small percentage of your stage time. every time you stop and re-start moving, that takes time, so don't make an unnecessary stops. also, while tempting, don't push your gun into ports or breaks in walls, because you then need to pull back out, again, time. -
not familiar with the dovetail mounts. i'd either mill the slide or sell that and get an omni if you want to stay with the 2011 format. or maybe a used steelmaster to do the full open (minor) experience. or for well under $700 you can get a canik with a vortex on it.

Getting ducks in a row for starting 3 gun this spring
davsco replied to Remington92's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
i'd call them for current info, but i think mine was just a couple of days. -
i like both games but prefer uspsa as generally higher round count and more movement and variety. get 'er done!!

know where you hit with match and blaster ammo from muzzle out to the distances you will be shooting. write it down. i have an m2 and nordic tube works fine. c-rums did my lifter and port opening. other than being a little heavy, i have heard zero complaints (other than it could be less $$$) from vortex razor hd2 1-6, love mine. i know a couple of idiots shot themselves, but blackhawk serpa is a perfect holster for your glock, not bulky, not heavy, not expensive, super easy to disengage. my first couple matches i just loaded out of cargo pockets. i really wouldn't buy a bunch of gear until you've shot a few matches and seen and tried what others are using. -
$20 used jogging stroller on craigslist and outfit it to work for you.

Drop in 2011 trigger kit recommendations/experiences
davsco replied to vgdvc's topic in 1911-style Pistols
i have two of these, no complaints. did require a little filing of the thumb safety.
