  1. if you haven't done any comp's yet, make sure at each stage you let the RO know you're new and they'll let you go last. and if you let your squad know you're new and want some input, sure you'll get plenty.
  2. all the 3 (and 2) gun matches i've done, all longs guns are always flagged. not sure why anyone would gripe, flagging a long gun (including pcc) couldn't be any easier and is an excellent way for everyone to see it has been rendered inert.
  3. guessing at lower power (max of 4, 6 or now going to 8x), don't need all that extra glass (cost and weight) for light vs the 16, 22x etc on longer range scopes. look at a nf nxs 5.5-22x56, has an exit pupil of 2.55 at full mag. vs a vortex 1-6x24, which has an exit pupil of 4, so even with a much smaller objective it has more light transmission.
  4. from what i've read, tsa doesn't approve or disapprove any specific brand/model of case. again from what i've read, if they can pry it open or even a corner it is not allowed. so a factory handgun case that has locks on or near both corners opposite the hinge side should be good. but if it just has a lock in the front middle and the sides aren't protected, prob not going to work. know it sucks going to the airport, but maybe bring some of your cases there, with locks, and show them and see what they say, with the understanding that there is no hard and fast rule and other airports or even other tsa agents may think otherwise.
  5. well how about a shorter JP upper to go with your JP lower, def can't go wrong with that!
  6. generally with factory, the heavier-for-caliber ammo has less energy/recoil for faster follow-up shots. so for instance, fed american eagle 147 9mm should shoot a little softer than their 124 which should shoot a little softer than their 115, just look at the energy #'s on the boxes. myself, not really good enough to tell the diff but i do try to buy 147 or if a little cheaper, 124. fed am eagle is my preference for no strong reason. actually i've had great luck with the blazer aluminum though it seems half the time it's more expensive than brass equivalents. no issues with pmc or wwb. always check pricing on ammoseek.com but realize that palmetto state armory and some other good shops aren't captured there for some reason.
  7. again i just think it's dumb and needless. just treat them as two separate and distinct stages and it's no problem at all. we're dealing with deadly weapons here and doing something different than is done 99% of the time (walking around loaded) just invites an issue (guy whips out loaded gun to make ready...). plus you're not doing the shooters any favors, especially when you throw a curveball on the 2nd stage.
  8. if that thing is going to weigh 10+ pounds, you won't have to worry about much recoil at all. i'd go 6.5 just so you have larger animal hunting options. plus a bunch of factory ammo options (good ones) since you don't reload. also if that is threaded for a brake, that will take felt recoil to almost nothing.
  9. jp gmr13 with glock mags works for me (shoots rifles lefty). glock mags just work in glocks and they also just work in the jp (and prob most other AR-glock platforms). relatively inexpensive and lots of mag and extension options. i've only shot a colt-mag pcc once, but loading and unloading those mags SUCKED.
  10. nope, just figured the racer was close to the stock trigger profile.
  11. just installed the freedomsmith racer trigger, what a monster change in reduced trigger takeup!!!!! will try it out at a match tomorrow. tell you what though, those pins were TIGHT, way tighter than my glocks. and the tiny one in the takedown lever is a real b*tch to take out and put back in. but, wow, takeup is almost gone.
  12. consider going with a longer barrel. extra velocity will give you a flatter trajectory and more importantly less wind effect which matters more as you reach out to 1k. of course longer barrel adds weight and a little more unwieldy in the woods.
  13. what jack said. factory loads are generally somewhat hotter than the major power factor floor, so more recoil and thus slower or less accurate double taps. if you don't want to reload, check out atlanta arms, they make 40 major that is just a little above the major power factor floor.
  14. as long as you (the shooter) don't have to immediately shoot the next stage, not a problem. i did a match a while back where they were trying to rush folks thru and i went to the 2nd stage without a walkthru or even some time to think. and of course that 2nd stage had a 3 shots per target vs the usual two and you can prob guess what happened... my fault for not just putting my foot down and saying i wanted a few shooters to run the 2nd stage before me but still i think we shouldn't put folks in that position. frankly it just felt like a 'gotcha' stage.
  15. i go back and forth between a dot and iron sights, doesn't help for sure. but i did turn the cmore sideways on both my open guns and that helped a lot, got it a little lower, closer to where iron sights generally are.
  16. well please do, thanks! haven't shot it much but the excessively long trigger take-up is definitely something i want changed.
  17. thanks guys for all the info! i did buy the freedomsmith racer trigger, need to install that. will check out your other suggestions as well. super thanks! stainless number 2 split ring ===> where do i get one of these, home depot or lowes, brownell's,?
  18. first, wow, super congratulations, what a feat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! https://dawsonprecision.com/double-alpha-premium-belts/ dawson's website shows belt nominal and actual lengths, does appear to go in 2" increments, at least for the double alpha's.
  19. seems it would be relatively easy and common sense to keep a rules pdf on the uspsa website that is red-lined for changes & updates, with a listing of changes at the top and their respective dates. each of us could check it before a match or at least periodically to stay up to date.
  20. as noted above, some LEO's might want to practice with their duty guns/rounds. i have glock 31 and 32 and would like to do a match with one of these just for fun/practice.
  21. perhaps we're getting tied up in 'caliber' but .357sig is allowed in L/L10 in Major PF. change was a few years ago i believe. edit - jeez i stepped away from my laptop for a few minutes and this was already answered several times...
  22. i must be missing the fun matches, no strippers yet at anything i've done...
  23. yeah def send it back vs buying (and installing etc) another comp yourself.
  24. under armour cold gear infrared shirt, with a lighter weight fleece pullover over that, both tucked into my pants so not in the way of my draw or grabbing mags. heavy winter coat over that which comes off when i'm up at bat. under armour 3.0 or 4.0 cold gear long johns, jeans or bdu's over that. if really cold i'll keep gloves on (until shooting) with hot hand packets inside them.
