  1. but is it feasible or plausible...
  2. if you changed the recoil spring after the syntech was working (and that was your only change) and now it isn't working, putting the prior # recoil spring back in seems like that would put it back to working again. based on atlanta's and federal's published velocities, the 205 syntech has about 12% less muzzle energy than atlanta's 180, thus less recoil.
  3. interesting, still makes major i assume? what bullet weight? thanks. this should be a somewhat less expensive option. yeah i'd measure the two. fyi my edge has been 100% using atlanta regular length reload .40 (and various factory ammo), haven't tried the long, no need to.
  4. go to uspsa website and click on major matches, they're saying 450 rounds for hicap nationals. guessing that's minimum so prob bring more if not a lot more (a few misses, reshoot...). https://uspsa.org/matches/major
  5. still don't get the retaining strap rule, how is that still in effect? especially with open holsters where if the gun goes up just an inch it's gone. and whomever told you you need to bungee your gun at the start, to quote john mcenroe, surely cannot be serious.
  6. carolina has the most absurd freight charges i see out there, way more than offset their apparently lower prices. as noted above, check out ammoseek.com but do have to factor in freight. generally, targetsportsusa.com has the best prices due to free freight on case purchases. check out ammoempire.com which is also doing that.
  7. if uspsa is just going to be fun, get a 9mm 2011. excellent for 3 gun and perfect for anything without a power factor (steel challenge, falling steel matches, idpa [need bushing barrel not bull barrel]). as most of us have, you'll get another (and another...) not too far down the road... as mentioned above, you can get a glock MOS or get the slide milled for a red dot. carry optics is fun and super cheap (cheap [free for you] glock, cheap glock mags, cheap 9mm ammo, glocks work). could shoot open with it in 3 gun (lets you use bipod and load up your shottie).
  8. as relatively inexpensive as glocks are, not a big fan of switching calibers around, easy to get it wrong, bring the wrong combo to a match, etc. at your next couple of 3 gun and uspsa matches, ask your squadmates to try out some of their various handguns. personally i love the sti 2011 guns and that's the way i went (9mm for 3 gun/steel/2 gun/etc) and .40 for uspsa (well, and also 38 super). my glocks haven't much use since i got my sti's. since you have a free glock coming, get a 35 (.40) and give it a try in in uspsa limited. if you don't love it, relegate it to your truck or bedside HD and grab a STI.
  9. idpa, small local match, i didn't have to, but dq'd myself. i was pressing out, on target, and my elbow or wrist or something hit a barricade that the ro/so had been moving around so i lit one off before i intended to, hit the target but unnerved me a little. not a dq by the rules though.
  10. both are used? take them to a range or even do a match with them and see what works best for you, taking into account the $1k price diff.
  11. i've seen a couple of ar's double (or more) with geissele's sd3g flat triggers. i have and love geissele's ssa-e triggers in all of my 3 gun, dmr and precision ar's. a nice, clean, light trigger pull if you go to 2nd stage, or just pull it all the way thru for blaster targets.
  12. pretty much what jw said. tight shots where you need to aim anyways, and to conserve mag capacity to avoid an extra reload. on a related note, i see some folks that throw 3 at each target, presumably because they think they have a 50% better chance of hitting the target, but they go so fast they're sloppy and still end up with some misses or ftn's.
  13. my wife doesn't buy me crap, BUT, she doesn't yell too much when i buy my own toys.
  14. i'd ask sti. i have the predecessor, sti steelmaster and it was made to work great with winchester white box 9mm (minor). given that the dvc-s also shows 38 super, not sure if it comes set up for minor or major. thinking though a spring change would be all that is needed to switch between minor and major power factor.
  15. not facetious, i love running around and shooting stuff, hate standing still and shooting stuff (double or triple layer plate rack, spinner).
  16. yeah especially that last row with the real tiny triangles, sux standing and shooting at one thing. i'd much rather have to run from a 6 plate rack to another 6 plate rack to another 6 plate rack.
  17. did you ask them about supertune (trigger job and reliability work), again different than crp (bolt on parts)?
  18. dawson is showing the edge on their website. if they still have some, guessing they would do their supertune package on one (trigger job and reliability work) and prob could send out to get hard chromed if you wanted that. call them. fyi their crp pkg is just some bolt on parts.
  19. some just don't know the drill, and some need a little coercion. at the safety brief, remind that you have the shooter, who tops off mags after his run. the on deck shooter who is getting ready to make ready. everyone else tapes and resets after each and every shooter. if you have a big squad, the in the hole shooter can also relax and plan. and make a rule that there is zero brass picking til after the match is over. it's tough though. couple old guys have energy to shoot the stages but not to reset (or do the nook). then the two buddies that go off to their car and you don't see them for a couple of runs, so not even around to yell at them to help. def the worst thing about the shooting events is how much more time they take when resetting help isn't there.
  20. when brazos made up 4 tuned mags to go along with the hp edge i bought from them, they used dawson snl baseplates. i think grams springs/followers but not 100% sure. gun has run 100.0000% with .40 major and just a few hiccups over the years when i've run it with .40 minor at some steel matches. just fyi i bought some dawson snl basepads for some open gun mags and they were too long to fit the gauge. not sure what if anything i could do to make them fit, haven't messed with them yet, back burner. but actually i just bought my own gauge so will see what can be done.
  21. imo the best uspsa match at least within a 2 hour radius if not 3 of there. i wish they were closer and less (a lot less) traffic and i would shoot there regularly.
  22. on practiscore, search for these clubs: fredericksburg (uspsa) quantico (uspsa and i think occasional 2 and 3 gun) thurmont / tcsc/ mpsa (uspsa, 2 & 3 gun, idpa) peacemaker / pntc (2 & 3 gun, falling steel, uspsa/idpa-like matches, prs, prc, gas gun) shadow hawk (uspsa, falling steel, starting 2 gun) york iwla (uspsa, 3 gun) southern maryland practical shooters (uspsa and i think idpa) eastern shore practical shooters (uspsa) of the above, peacemaker has the largest and most diverse facility (lots of big bays, 500/1k range, 1.2k range), seems like they're taking new members from time to time. guessing 2 hours west of arlington (it's an hour west of leesburg). i do a match almost every weekend there.
