  1. load up both mags with a variety of ammo and see how they/the gun works, reliability and accuracy-wise. you want frame etc to all be tight. have them (or you) disassemble it before you buy/try it and just look over everything, make sure none of the internals are scratched up or damaged. i think (need to look) they serial # the slide and barrel, make sure they match the frame. safety check is pretty easy. empty of course, cock it and keeping your hands off the beavertail (back of grip) try to pull the trigger, the hammer should not fall. cock it, click the safety on, hold the gun like you are shooting it (hand depressing the beavertail), again hammer shouldn't drop. i have these in 4", both lite and regular, both are nice guns (as are the rest of my sti posse), good luck!
  2. with a used gun, i'd try to see if they'll let you shoot it and bring it back same/next day if it's not working properly. sti should take care of it if it's not working properly, but why deal with that hassle if you don't have to.
  3. well, technically they do need to fit in the ~170 gauge but practically, measuring them for an open shooter is a formality as it's obvious they'll fit.
  4. i'm actually pretty good at math. you might want to work on your reading comprehension before incorrectly knocking others. if you zero a classifier it doesn't hurt you as much as zeroing a 32 round stage, i didn't say just missing a few. all stages are the same? what? so a 32 round stage has the same possible points as an 8 round stage? past my bedtime so maybe i'm not following you.
  5. i think we/me can make up for some of the fundamental flaws that hurt us in quickie classifiers, by having good stage planning and economy of motion in regular, longer stages. similarly, i normally finish further up the flagpole in uspsa, 2 & 3 gun (more movement and shooting) than i do in idpa, with its shorter stages where the draw, first shot, etc count more. maybe it just takes me longer to get going... the other thing is i think most really try to burn down classifiers, hero or zero. they only count the best ones, and if you zero a classifier it doesn't kill you as much with lost points vs a 32 round stage. and then of course there are classifier-only matches.
  6. you didn't ask me, but same answer, didn't do anything to my sbe2, the extra room for 3.5" made that unnecessary. i did have the port & lifter modded on my m2.
  7. honestly i could give a crap about my classification. i just see how i stack up at matches against every class and division. classifiers are just another stage for me, i don't 'go for broke' on them. nice improvement (your gf i guess) and keep going!
  8. really like my vortex 3-18x50 razor hd f1. buy once cry once. one of the scope retailers had it for 16% off of retail recently and maybe that will repeat around Christmas.
  9. if that is a 3.5" gun (my sbe2 is), it prob won't run normal velocity rounds (ie anything at walmart, the fed or win 4 packs) super reliably. either use the higher velocity winchester supersports or see if you can spring it a little weaker. with the longer loading port (3.5 v 3" on the m2) it is actually a little easier to speed load.
  10. so, you're telling me, i have a chance!
  11. isn't it one fault line per position of cover now, such if there weren't a handful of fault lines by each port, they were treated as one position of cover? haven't had my idpa hat on in a while so maybe not...
  12. given that mags seem to be a or the leading cause of 2011 malf's, sure would be nice for a reasonably inexpensive mag system that works and works and works. a guy can dream...
  13. jp has 10% off ready rifles and available rifles today (cyber monday) and free ship bf2018. also brownells has 10% off and they carry jp parts and firearms and of course lots of other stuff.
  14. not sure i want to try a 'fist' challenge... ahaha but yeah great shooting for your first time at this!! it's fun. also give uspsa a try if you haven't already, fast shooting, AND you get to run around with a gun.
  15. at your next match, check out what everyone is using and how they have it set up. after the match some or all may let you try on their setup. but yeah pretty much anything shooters connection sells will work great for you.
  16. did you shoot her handgun and where were you hitting? that trigger has the longest takeup of pretty much any handgun i've fired. might be too late, but see if you/others also shoot way low. but if you're hitting poi=poa, maybe work with her on the trigger pull some. i did a match a while back where everyone used the canik and pretty much everyone was hitting low, but when i super-slow-fired, it was dead nuts on.
  17. ok, didn't get an email from shooters connection and don't see it on their facebook page... if they (or anyone else) are discounting taylor freelance, appreciate it if someone would share the code, thanks!
  18. where'd you see this, i have an acct there and got no emails?
  19. what are the benefits of the Freedom trigger? downsides? my biggest complaint is the super long trigger take up - what can i do or replace to reduce the take up? thanks!!
  20. ok, decided to go with the canik and the vortex viper based on my past experience with it; picked it up at the local gun show today. the one thing i hate is the super long trigger take up. please let me know what i need to buy/do/switch out to shorten the take up!!! any other must have's or must do's? thanks!
  21. you've heard the phrase, beware the man with one gun? well, that's not me. i switch back and forth a lot (all the games/divisions are fun) so want the dot as low as possible so i can spend less time practicing and finding it!
  22. i agree with you and wasn't suggesting to give everyone or anyone a pass and ignore the rules.
  23. yeah that's good advice on not milling. but i do switch back and forth between dots (uspsa open guns) and irons and having the lowest dot really helps me (i had to turn my open dot sideways). one good thing about the canik is i could stay on the dot, with the plate and not being milled. maybe it was just the different ergo's working better for me.
  24. i've read thru some threads here but figured i'd just start another one. i have a ton of glocks and like them. not super ergonomic but they always work, and tons of aftermarket parts & accessories. i have shot glock mos and milled glocks and had trouble finding the dot with both (think they were all trijicons); ditto with sig x5 & romeo. shot a canik with a vortex viper and did way better with the dot. maybe the vortex viper just sits lower? so just mulling over getting another 17 and having the slide milled or getting a canik, x version with the plates, (and all the cost, and hassle, and i guess fun) of getting into a new platform, probably with a vortex viper. input welcome, as well as must-have's with the canik. it did have the longest trigger takeup of any gun i've fired i think, so definitely want to remove or shorten that (i don't shoot the reset). on a related note, anyone know if the canik mags fit either glock or sti 2011 mag pouches? sounds like some of the caniks fit in some of the glock holsters?
