  1. The Tanfo itself runs great right out of the box but some pieces from Hennings makes it much better. One issue I have had and still have is with mag tuning / feed issues. Get it right and you can shoot all day, get it wrong and you can get frustrated quick. I've been told you can run into the same issue with the S_I platform on occassion so this may just be the nature of the beast. My brother shoots a TS and in 3yrs I've yet to see an feed issue there.....,
  2. I put tape over mine to muffle it a bit, it's lowder than it needs to be for me.
  3. Mine is usually a smaller woman and I made it a point to tell her if the vehicle is in the yard to give a knock at the door and I will grab them. If the wife gets home before me and decides to drag them inside, then I really have to deal with a tough union!!!
  4. I've been fighting similar issues for a while now. I resize my brass priot to loading with a U die at a length of 1.200" Zero JHP's all of the time. Typically I run 19rnds in the mag since #20 is pretty tough to load. I stay on top of my mag lip width (very important) so I don't think the issue is there. The only difference is I've had my mag tubes cobalt plated which actually did help a bit in making them slicker. Playing with follower angles has had some different results. It just seems with this platform all needs to be just right to perform flawlesly. I still would deal with no one other than Henning when it comes to Tanfoglio.
  5. +1 Freedom Gunworks. I sent mine to "another" Smith before deciding it would go to Freedom for coating. 3 months later I still don't have it back (I was quoted 1 month)for it's trip to Freedom. It's nothing special, just a shooter but I know I would have had it back from Freedom by now and saved on the 2nd shipping charge... Off for Atranite soon I hope, very soon.......
  6. Before trying to rotate it again to get it out I would throw in the freezer for a few hours to see if that will shrink things enought to allow for a little more movement. All are correct though, you do NOT want the FPB in there....
  7. "He shot the three on the left and then one on the right with two each" Does this mean he shot all 3 targets on the right, 2rnds each (6 shots total) before doing the mandatory reload?
  8. I do the exact same thing when reaching for my Beer... Of course, that's if I set it down to begin with!!! Seriously, if it works...... Use It.
  9. Send it to mee and I'll store it for you!!! I actually keep mine in a 5 gallon stackable lidded pail like you can get at any home supply store. Quick spin in the tumbler and their ready for the reloader.
  10. You didn't state if you planned to shoot USPSA, IDPA or other dicipline. While going the 1911 route is great you will find your funds will go alot further if you purchase something like a M&P Pro model or an Springfield XD. For your budget you will have funds for the gun, extra mags and your rig.
  11. 4.3gr Titegroup 125gr Zero JHP @ "1.130. Sweet, little dirty.
  12. Slotting with a dremel cut off wheel is the way to go. I've done this on 3 holsters and it allows me the use of blue loctite to keep things tight if I need to.
  13. Sounds like a good way to start a new shooter off towards developing a bad habit. It is now going to be future RO's responsibility to insure the shooter is not taking a sight picture when not allowed at future matches. It also puts the new shooter in a position where other competitors may think he is an unsafe individual when in fact they just don't know any different. This should not have been allowed to happen IMO.. Our game requires safety guidlines be followed without exception. I don't care if and RO has cleared a handgun, I still don't want it pointing at me while I'm downrange.
  14. I've done a few sets and it's not that difficult to paint yourself. I would suggest first finding the grips you want and then painting them or having them painted. This is a set I did for my Tanfoglio. They have held up pretty well. The type of paint you use and what you coat them with will depend on the material the grips are made from. If the gun is blued I would suggest tapering from a black to the pink so the transition is more gradual. On stainless or chrome they would proabably not stand out quite as much.
  15. Now with Henning grips and Magwell, and the before with stock grips / mag well. The stock grips are a bit thick and stuck out over the new magwell so were swapped.
  16. Just received my red anodized magwell and installed. With the red anodized checkered grips the look and feel is perfect!! Thanks for another great product Henning..
  17. I would use a clear laquer based finish (sprayed). At the least a Non water based polyurethane. The water based stuff just does not hold up to high moisture / humidity in my opinion. I run a pair of wood grips I painted and coated with clear laquer (front/back) which have been in my hand at 10below zero in a snow storm to 90deg in the rain with no ill effects for over a year now.
  18. Henning, I plan to go the red loctite route again but this time will have tape over the nut and the head of the screw. If it comes loose the nut won't fall to the ground and the screw/pin will be unable to back out!! I think short of drilling a pretty small hole to pin the nut / screw together this is the best bet. Still think it's a great improvement over stock!!!
  19. Timely post... I lost another during practice today, Red loctite!!!! I just ordered a couple more spares from Henning. I think the loctite fails because it's such a small part with little surface area. Luckily the trigger pin tends to stay in so the risk of the trigger falling loose is slim.
  20. Speed Shooters Specialties, Midway USA and Cheaper than dirt often have on sale. You didn't indicate if they had to be 10 rounders or not??
  21. We have a lot of guy's who attend our local matches short on equipment. If you can borrow the gear you need, great. If not, use what you have and just enjoy the experience. Shooting safely, asking alot of questions and making sure you help set-up or tear down will go a long way towards getting help from your peers in the future. The right gear will come with time as your experience mandates but the important parts of the sport are free!!!!
  22. GiShooter: Did the kind officer site what laws he considered you broke(Interstate transportation of firearms, Magazine capacity, etc)? As I have suspected having the invitation paperwork to a match was of no concern to the officer. In the end, did you end up with a speeding citation??? I really wanted to attend this year but was worried about this type of thing . Looks like I'll be stayin in Vermont and be happy with my 11 matches a year. Being a responsible gun owner be damned, looks like our sport is still frowned on by the masses.... Glad to see it worked out for you in the end though.
  23. Had mine plated here. $15 -$18 each... http://plate-tacular.com/
  24. SLOOOOOW....... May just be my virus software getting used to the new OS but it seems I've lost a little spped on each of the last 2 updates.
