  1. Switch to the classice targets and then we'll get complaints whenever someone refers to it as a Turtle from another group against game hunting!!!! You will never please everyone, keep the game what it is, keep people shooting safely and competitivly and move on.....
  2. +1 on the Lee Bulge Buster. I've got just about $50.00 tied up including the cost of the used Lee single stage. I have always run a U-die in my Dillon 550 and now it really is not needed. If your only running a few hundred rounds in a session the Lee set up is pretty economical
  3. Could you place a "good" round along side the bad round and take a pic for us? This will allow you to magnify the cases together and look to see if there is a critical dimension issue. I would suspect that there is a dimensional issue at the base. If it's holding the slide open .1" I would guess it's not going to be a huge difference. dim.doc
  4. Raced Karts for a few years with a bunch of nuts like me on an 1/8mi high bank oval at 90mph... Felt the same way you did everytime I climbed out of the Kart!!!! Ain't life great.....
  5. Just set one of these up to size my .40 S&W cases before running through the 550B. It takes no time at all to run a couple of hundred cases thru and it really makes the cases run better thru the 550. Cheap & easy solution.....
  6. Thanks for posting... Just placed my order!!!
  7. So does this mean that if I bag up a Stage I can leave the last popper standing, walk over and kick it down and claim REF?? I know that's a stretch, but........
  8. For the money the 10/22 will be the best investment you make. There are fairly small and light out of the box and easy to operate / maintain. They can be changed/upgraded as time goes on and the shooters preferences/experience changes. I have one that has action work, custom stock, target barrel and a scope worth more than the gun and it all started as a Wally Mart special. Most fun you can have shooting!!! I'd at least buy one and let them try it out.
  9. Have run into the same issues with Remington. Have run CCI mini mags with ZERO problems in over 1K rounds. Little more money but still less than .223...
  10. The TF extensions I got with my magwell from SSS were already cut down to fit the magwell. I found this out after I bought 4 more extensions from someone else and they did not seat. A little taken off the bevels that already existed put them right where they needed to be. I would not thin the mag well out anymore than it already is, just trim the extensions. (I used a belt sander to keep the profile flat)
  11. Running 4.3gr WST W/ 200gr Zero FMJ @ 1.20" gets me 172 power factor.
  12. For me, I would say you are just not taking the required time on the 2nd shot and the muzzle is moving when you pull the trigger on the 2nd shot. I have, and do the same as a fairly newb to this sport. Your first shot on the first target is double action, the remainder are single soooo... Grip / trigger pull should be consistant thru those shots. I'm guessing if you have 3 targets in a row, your low left on the 2nd shot for each. Obviously your first shot after you transition to that target you are taking the most time on an probably rushing the 2nd shot pulling with more force on the trigger. What I have done is set up a target at 25 yds (It really shows how far off you can get) and I slowly run thru 2 shot strings purposfully taking the time to get a good sight picture and squeeze/feel the trigger while watching the front site come up / down before taking the next shot. Gradually speed this up until things go bad and analyze what "felt/looked" different. After repeating this enough you will learn plenty about your own muzzle control. I thought I had this licked until the Texas Star showed up at our club range. I find myself rushing when I shoot it and the flying dirt indicates I'm hittinng low left!! I know the accuracy of the gun, so it's just the driver that needs work. We'll both have to keep at it.
  13. Well, after over a year of running with the aluminum roller handle that came on my 550B I purchased used I decided to give the standard stick shift and ball a try. What a difference!!!! I find it MUCH easier to operate the press and find it less tiring. Anyone else decided to do the same? I've only run a couple of hundred rounds thru it this way but found it a lot easier on the arm especially when seating the primers.
  14. I know it's not apples to apples but I make Major PF with 5.0gr WST loaded out to 1.20 in my ,40 S&W with JHP's. With the larger case volume I have I would say you are not in a comfortable place with your load. The bullet your using will seal pretty well so less gas will be escaping causing higher pressures. Yes, it's a pain but I would say start over with a load that is better documented. If you still want to use WST, start with a lower charge in a SMALL quantity and run thru a chronograph to see where you are at. Keep an eye for pressure signs as you work up to power factor.
  15. I shoot against myself...... And at matches like this past weekend I do a pretty good job of beating my score down...
  16. Better yet, anybody even find one yet?????
  17. I would go with an S&W M&P, probably a long or Pro for the increase in muzzle weight and sight radius. What is a really nice option, as others have stated, is the adjsutable grips sizes. At 10, there is still some growing that will be coming quickly and his hands will be getting larger. As for the recoil with a Poly model, I think at that age control will esily come with practice. A little grip tape or stippling and you'll be fine. Keep in mind if this is for competition there will be less weight on the belt. The M&P line does have a large square trigger guard so learning to keep that finger out of there is a must with small hands.
  18. Nope - Maybe.... Others will chime in here but to answer this correctly will need more information like whether or not bullet profile is the same, manufacturer, bullet weight, etc. In some cases you will find the bullet OAL is slightly longer so to get the same OAL you will be seating the bullet deper thus increasing your pressure slightly so a change will need to be made to your powder charge. I always re-work my loads based on the bullet type I'm using just to be sure where I'm at.
  19. I saw the same with MG 180 CMJ. One of 2 reasons I switch to Zero's. My Tanfo did not like feeding that flat nose profile very well...
  20. I have a question about my load which will be answered as the months get warmer but thought someone may have some insight. Load is for .40 S&W with mixed brass. 5.0gr WST, Zero 180gr JHP "1.200 oal W/ CCI SPP. No overpressure is indicated at this load. Below are my latest Chrono results at an air temp of 45deg. (Hey, It's Vermont). I run this in my Tanfoglio Limited. 939.3 956.1 958.1 966.0 966.1 967.8 968.0 970.8 973.6 982.5 992.1 So, power factor 169L & 178H. Throwing out the low and high point, avg= 173pf. My question is..... What kind of change will I see come mid summer, 80deg temps since WST is reverse sensitive? Will I be running too close to 165pf? Would switching to a magnum SPP get me back to 170+ pf? Again, I'll be running thru the chrono as the temps go up just curious if anyone has some prior experience. I'd hate to switch loads because I love the way this load feels, WST meters excellent and is SUPER clean. Oh, and everybody likes the smell!!!
  21. You will find the clinic to be a very positive experience. Great group of people willing to work with all skill levels to get you started in the sport. I will be setting up stages for the Sunday match so I won't get to partake in the full session but feel free to let me know if you have any questions you need answered before the match. Prior to this year I ran a M&P Pro in production, I think you'll be very happy with it.
  22. Welcome to the forums!!! Hope you plan to attend one of our GMPS matches. No need to wait for Spring, we shoot all winter.
  23. Ask someone looking to buy a used press what they would be willing to pay the most for. I think you will find the Dillon comes out on the top of the list. Knowing that I can load all the ammo I need on my 550B without regard for it failing and still be able to get a large portion of my money back if I want to upgrade is reason enogh to not look elswhere. I've loaded 9MM, 40S&W, 45ACP with no set up issues and no quality issues due to the press. Quality, safe ammo is actually the most important thing here so I guess it's whatever machine you feel is going to give you that is the way to go..
  24. I just sent out today for a refund on the 5K I have... Looks like I have alot of practice primers.....
  25. Not sure what you painted it with but the key here is to use an airbrush and use very light coats. A flat color will be thinner than a gloss. You can still get the affect you want without filling in the imperfections you worked so hard to put in. As far as the "streaking effect" so many like I tend to make sure the paint is very thin so it will not build up in those areas. If going with a clear I use a thin Satin to insure the least build up. Doing it in this way minimizes build up and helps with durability. Attached is my grip, little to no loss in grip and this is over wood checkering.
