  1. The spartan allows you to spend the extra on necessities like blue spray paint
  2. Cause a ready to race upgraded spartan is gonna cost less than a box stock trojan.
  3. The non ramped barrel is not a problem. I also wouldn't worry about the cast frame. Caspian frames are cast frames. I went with the spartan and spent the extra for a magwell and grips, and a new front sight(slimmer with smaller Fo) and a lighter recoil spring. I put grip tape on the front strap and might get it checkered later on when i need a refinish. I didnt care for the front strap of the trojan. Had greg do a trigger job on it and its good to go. Shot it right out of the box without a problem.
  4. I would just sell the adaptor and get the correct one for your gun. Then if you do not end up liking the sight you can go back to the regular iron sight. Not really worth milling an odd ball sight cut(for a 1911) in a slide for a part that runs like 50 bucks or so
  5. STI has an aluminum grip for the 2011 and SVI has a steel grip
  6. I have tried a friends 5 inch and 6 inch side by side and the 6 inche just felt better. I have one now getting the slide lightened on it. The lightened slide is pretty much a must ont the Sti 6 inch guns. I also went to the 6 inch glock 24 while this is getting worked on and I just shoot it better than the 35 I had before. The balance feels better on the 24 than the 35 and theI just shoot it better at distance especially than I ever did the 35
  7. I think that is part of the fun of it and one reason I am not a fan of IDPA. You try and make the stage easier and better for you and your abilities. Stage this weekend for example you had to shoot steel from one box, pick up a large basket with rope handle on each side and shoot steel in the middle with basket off the ground, go to the other side and place the basket down and shoot steel in the box. The Intent I believe was to make the shooter shoot it strong hand only for the stuff in the middle but wasnt specified just stated basket off the ground. I ended up shooting the steel from the box, throwing the loop over my front mag and shot it free style and then took the basket off(sacrificing the mag) on the way over. For me throwing it on the mag on the move took basically no extra time and I was able to hit the steel much quicker with 2 hands than I could strong hand. Also, Someone who is very quick on their feet and not quite as accurate at distance is going to shoot stages alot different than someone who can hit very well at distance and is not very quick on their feet. It also allows you to take the Penalties if you know something is out of your range. If there is a very distant target that you know the only way your going to hit it is by pure luck, it allows that person to take the penalties and leave it out rather than rack up the time, waste ammo and still get a penalty for something they have no chance at hitting. I think "gaming" is all part of free style

    Glock Frames

New frames are not cheap at all. Probibally cheaper to buy the gun and part out what you dont want or need
  9. different colored base pads work also for your 11 rounder
  10. Your going too need to change the ejector/trigger housing when yhou switch calibers. The LW 24 upper is definately nice. Pay the extra and get the slide blind marked so no ugly logo on the side of the slide. Put one on mine and it worked right from the get go and was a drop in fit. No "gunsmith fitting" required because the FP safety hole was too small and the striker rubbed on the side of the hole in the breechface like another brand I had.
  11. I will usually do it on a swinger just to make sure the hits are all there. In 3 gun, usually on a tough rifle shot, I will add an extra one just to make sure. Sometimes its needed other times its not.
  12. I would say keep it as is. If its not broke don't monkey around with it. As to being short on gear, I am sure if the shooter came out with say a glock right out of a box to most local matches with no holster, mag pouches extra mags or anything there would probibally be a rig pieced together for him to shoot the match with in pretty short order. Reloading is just part of the game. What about single stack, maby we should make that higher capacity too since it involves even more reloading. I would say for a new shooter coming out, most are going the have a production gun or a single stack gun
  13. What I have seen is the pistol grip/thumbhole stocks do not swing as well as a standard gun
  14. In regards to Micah's glock grip this is quite fitting.
  15. the sad part is some people out there don't care. there was a you tube video a while back that made the run on arfcom. 2 small chidren died in a fire while mom and aunt were out. The aunt was more concerned about her food stamp card getting burned up in the fire that the kids. People like that are the worst kind

I have both 6 and 8 with the dawson extentions. the 6 followers require no modification for 20+1. The 8 need the bevel done to the follower to get the same results
  17. Is you backup gun still the wilson there Dave
  18. Ya had gun problems and just said the heck with it when the gun wasnt feeding at all. Wasn't worth the agrivation to continue shooting it
  19. Its pretty much a personal preference but most are probibally between 9 and 12. I have tried a 9 in mine and just didnt like the feel of it. Went to a 11 and it feels better for me at least
  20. to make a 9mm a 40 you need a whole new top end and a housing/ejector. I have put one together off a frame I got cheap with a lone wolf 24 upper and it came out nice.
  21. Just take a little off the MSH to get it flush with the frame. I also had to take a little off the techwell on mine to get it to fit correctly and it is now rock solid. If it dosent fit, they have a video to show you how to fit it.
  22. The big thing to getting the small 1911s to gun is good mags and good springs. There isnt much clearence from the back of the mag to where to slide bottoms out so if the mag spring is weak, the round isnt up in time to get picked up
  23. They are junk that look "tacticool" typically sold at gun shows to the unsuspecting looking for something thats cheap and looks cool
  24. I would agree on just get a base gun and build it up as you go. The Spartan is a great base gun to start with and add parts as needed. A 1911 is a gun that requires fitting of the parts and is really building a gun. I would consider an ar15 more of a put together gun as the parts are basically drop in and don't require the fitting a 1911 takes. The 1911 is much more difficult to build than an ar is to put together. For a single stack gun a base gun is the way to go especially for a beginner on a budget. With the correct tools at hand, an AR could be assembled in under an hour. A 1911, even built by a true professional takes much longer than that.
  25. I fail to see how a sight picture with a gun even a loaded gun is a danger and an accident waiting to happen. Isn't a sight picture typically done at a target or something safely down range? Even if the person does have a total brain fart and shoots one off its going where the gun is pointed. There are tons more things more likely to cause a problem than a sight picture even with a loaded gun
