  1. It was projected TSA would handle more packages this year than UPS and Fed Ex
  2. Its amazing being on the other side of the counter as well. I helped a buddy out and it would amaze you how many people would whip a gun out and start jamming it in a holster to check for fit, even better was when they were corrected and asked to do it with an unlaoded gun they would whip out a badge and say its ok im a cop(training center for the state was 3 miles away) . Its amazing how many people would bring unloaded guns in to be worked on trade in etcc andwhen we checked it a round bouncedoff the counter
  3. +1 on the Jard. I have the 2 pound in mine and and it puts the JP to shame
  4. What if the gun was a 1911 style gun but was built with with no grip safety aka "the Answer" novak has. Not talking about converting a gun to that but if the gun is built from the ground up and never had a grip safety build it. For instance the MP comes with and without a mag safety so having the one with no safety is legal, but having the one with the safety and removing it is not. It would seem the 1911 would be the same way if it Never had a grip safety
  5. Don't have any coworkers around here to ask stupid questions. Heck, I have a supervisor I have never even met and really do not have a clue who my direct supervisor would be if I even have one at this point. Less agrivation I guess
  6. It could very well be a straw purchase depending on the exact situation. Person asks another to buy it for them as a gift and then gives them a gift of cash I would consider a straw purchase. On the other hand if the gun is given as truely a gift ie father gives son the gun as a college graduation gift then it would not be. Helped a buddy in his shop and have seen all sorts of attempts at getting around it
  7. There is no list of limited guns
  8. I would second merlins idea. The spartan is pretty good right out of the box. On mine I replaced the front sight with a dawson for personal preference like the slimmer sight with smaller FO. I also added a techwell XT and some skate tape on the front strap I also had a trigger job done which came out nice with the factory parts. You would need to do quite a bit of work to yours to get it up to the factory spartan
  9. I would just order the rifle buffer and be done with it. Its not that expensive
  10. Is the back plate cranked down too hard on the mag? I have had troble with that on the 140 tf extentions I had. Backed off the screws some and it went away. Went to the dawsons in the 140 and no problems since(not an option for the 170)
  11. Is it the dovetail? The RIA is a specific dovetail for their guns. I would call dawson and let them make a sight for the gun. They can make it the height and width he wants.

    light strikes

We had a guy set set one off on the ejector of a 1911 at a local match when jerking the slide back at unload and show clear. Thats one reason I don't cover the ejection port when yanking it back. Your more likely to do it if you do the jerk and catch rather than slowly pulling it back
  13. There really wouldnt be an advantage to a 6 inch barrel in a 5 inch slide even if it were legal. If you like the 6inch, get a 6inch with a lightened slide. It will weigh the same or less than a 5 inch and have the extra inch of sight radius
  14. Welcom to the forum. Where in eastern KY were you located at? We have a nice USPSA match the first sunday of the month at the Bluegrass sportsmans club in Wilmore KY with a rifle or shotgun side match alternating every other month. If you need any equipment to give it a try just let someone know as I am sure there is some glock loaner equipment at the club people can let you use.
  15. You could always pay the 200 dollar tax stamp and have it done as a short barrel rifle. Built one here with a 10.5 inch light weight barrel and it is light. If you want to aviod the tax stamp, you can get a regular 14.5 inch barrel, have a comp perminenty attached and have adco turn it down very thin which will loose alot of weight. Another option is to get one of the Smith and wesson 22 caliber ar15 rifles. Very Light, cheap to shoot and a good training rifle without the recoil and noise of a 223
  16. Tripp. The wilsons have a tendencey to sit higher and hit the extractor especially on a slide lock reload
  17. The only thing I changed right off the bat was I put a lighter recoil spring in mine as the factory one felt kid of tight. It now has a dawson front sight(slimmer and smaller FO), trigger job, and a XT magwell. It is definately a good value
  18. I would say go for it but the bipod, k9 etc has to start and stay on the rifle in te same place throughout the match. That would make it less deirable
  19. seen upgraded sights and magwells offered for free
  20. It really can be a mental block sometimes when something goes wrong to keep dwelling on it. After the shot, you have to say that shot is gone and just worry about the one you are currently taking. Think of it as say 32 individual shots and not a 32 round COF. Stuff goes wrong and you really just need to learn to accept it and move on since you don't have a delorean to go back and do anything about it. Also try not to concentrate on shooting the entire match. Have a trigger point where you turn your concentration on and off and turn it on when you are say on deck and turn it off after the gun is back in the holster and your done with your stage. Trying to focus 100 percent of the match will just overwelm you and cause for a break down. Concentrating in short bursts will keep your focus For the worrying about forgetting stuff, how about making a check list of every thing you need for the match. Pack up the night before and have it ready to go so all you need to do is grab it in the morning not search for gear. In the morning, as the stuff is put in the car, check it off the list just like a pilot will do. If everything is checked off the list everyting is there and good to go
  21. If your on the ball and shoot your game, the people on the squad with you shouldn't distract you. Shot skeet matches in the past where you could usually have your own 5man squad but sometimes if not everyone went you would be on a mixed squad. I never had a problem with anyone I had ever shot with or ever felt they had any impact on my score. Concentrate when you walk up there and turn it off after the shot. In skeet especially, I saw more complaints about squads, targets, refs etc from people in the A or B range that thought they were better than they were than I ever saw from AAA shooters. Those at the top are at the top because they know how to shoot their game and avoid all the other things around them.
  22. You will see alot of people running the dawson or Techwell mag wells on the single stack guns which are quite large.
  23. Beretta Lover, the oring is a good fix for the problem. What buffer are you running in the gun. Mine would work with a carbine but runs much smoother with the spikes tactical H2. I put the oring under the extractor on all my guns. My 10.5 inch will shoot anything I have shoved in it. Gets quite a bit of wolf and spits it right out.
  24. +1 on revolver being the lowest. The other relly depend on the area alot. Around here there are some clubs where production is huge, others you see alot of limited and single stack.
  25. Went with the DOH because basically I can have the same draw for limited, Production and SS(without a DOH attachment). It also keeps the gun protected more for 3 gun where you are moving(sometimes quite a lot) with the gun in the holster. From what I have seen, very few stages are won or lost on the draw time. Most stages at least around here are not stand and fire.
