I have a heavier 18 inch SPR..and a lighter 16 Inch Hanson, with lightweight hand guard. i get faster and more accurate splits on heavier and longer barrel. Only slightly more muzzle rise on lightweight.... but the game isn't all about splits..... there will be a decreasing return on investment at a certain point Either heavier or lighter. I also think at that that level it's not about tuned reciprocating mass affecting muzzle flip. But over all mass or lack of it. lighter you go The more "muzzle flip" you get i haven't shot a "ultra light weight" rifle yet but I would think that yes you can go too light too heavy decrease in transition time and increase in fatigue... ( but shoots uber flat) a think it best to find the right balance .........of weight,load, components for your body and shooting style and Course of fire. This is bed is to big.... This bed is to soft..... This bed is just right..... While not an ultra light I think I stumbled upon just right balance on my last build.... Anyone is welcome to shoot my toys for comparison. I'd suggest shooting as many different configurations as you can..... ( Caveat emptor I haven't competed yet...... I have stayed at holiday inn) i also think unless your shooting at national level or better..... Much of this minutia is moot...... I don't think I'll ever shoot any where near the potential of any of my toys...... But tinkering is part of the fun......

I ran mid length gas with rifle legnth stock/ buffer system ( standard weight sling snd buffer as it came with stock) /for about 100 rounds easy shooting before the rest of the parts showed up..... I don't see why not. But I'm. Not an AR/m forgery guru. It functioned fine no failures or any issues that I was aware of. I didn't put much thought into it knowing I was going to tune system further....

+1 . For mid length gas with ace rifle length. With adj gas key LW bolt carrier, Tac com buffer system rifle length, reduced buffer spring. Schuller brake ace rifle length stock i like the rifle length system over than carbine length system.... I have a tuned carbine length buffer system with heavier barreL.... They almost shoot identically in regards to perceived recoil .... With the winner going to the lighter weight rifle length buffe/stock build...

I've been using a laser lyte, for some of my dry fire..... I got a second gen for a steal...... Can't beat training with actual equipment!

Anyone running hex mags...... Thinking about trying these out also planning stocking up just in case.......

I think he is referring to tuning / dampening the forward motion of the BCG striping cartridge from magazine chambering locking bolt into battery. there is movement transferred from bolt locking / forward motion BCG. ........ Aka perceived recoil, muzzle movement, refill...muzzle flip... Many will tune the reward motion of BCG..... Few will tune forward motion of BCG!!! Think minimum forward energy to strip cartridge and lock bolt........

http://www.6mmbr.com/ultrasonic.html ive used this formula for years and ive recently tried with lemmishine for brass, for small parts dish soap ( dawn) and water, simple green be sure to lube parts soon after rinse and dry.. I feel like the ultrasonic is doing most of the work here. also make sure solution is safe for finish...... the clean and shiny will strip any bluing dont ask me how i know.....

Make sure to recheck after a break in period.... I found the 2 I've installed needed adjusting after break in... What adj gas block, barrel, and hand guard are you running.... Haven't heard of anyone less having you issue... while mot a solution to your query,. An adjustable gas KEY.....has less issues

what distance's are you seeing the tumbling?

My last build I used a ballistic advantage barrel.... You can find them on sale.....light weight in your pice range with a MOA guarantee and gas block to boot, For a few dollars more than a no name barrel..... i haven't shot her at longer distances yet. But for the close stuff plenty accurate!

this thread lost me, to some extent... i dropped physics in HS and in college. my thinking since you are dampening/tuning with adjustable gas block the question is a wash.... since the adjustable gas system will dampen these forces. sure the question of pressure is valid but i don't think the shooter can feel the difference on input of gas to the bolt which is transferred to the rearward motion ob bolt/BCG i believe that the whole mid length gas, vs rifle length gas conversation only applies to NON adjustable gas systems. because adjustable systems dampen gas forces, and decelerates the rearward movement of the BCG. F=M A newtons second rule the A (acceleration) is equal mid or rifle length which is the minimum force to lock bolt back. by using light weight BCG and buffer system (reciprocating mass) decreasing M in the formula will provide you more results in decreasing muzzle flip/ perceived recoil often overlooked.... one should consider tuning the forward action of the BCG which contributes to muzzle dip

I had made the switch to all blue. But had a Lee u die sitting around.... decided to try the die on position one, on 550 i forgot got the joys of the de priming pin walking..... Even after torqueing the mess out of it..... I recall I would have to re torque every after about 500 rounds is there a more permanent fix? Lock-tite?

What headstamps are you seeing failure with? is failure more prevalent with shorter oal? do you have same issues loading virgin brass? did the shorter oal rounds ever have a high success rate? is your case gauge clean? trying blowing case gauge....... Then retest ive found some gauges are tighter than others.

I've been having same issues on I pad.

I would try tuning it again.... My first time out to tune it (brand new build) ... I couldn't get consistent results. Was frustrated....on second tune session Took out screw and set screw re installed and it does what it is supposed to do. I can't explain it doesn't make sense im writing off as break in issues. Im going to retune whole system next range day. Now that rifle is a broken in a bit.

I'm running RCA adj gas with 1 ounce Tac com rifle length buffer, spring system. Runs fine. Just make sure to tune gas key. Bus... Are you saying with key fully closed the BCG was not locking back?

I have WOA spr barrel. On a tuned light weight system..... And a lighter Hanson profile barrel 16 inch also tuned light weight system. the heavier SPR barreled rifle shoots flatter..... I'm not competive enough to which will perform better competition. But if you can tolerate and swing more weight the heavier spr profile shoots flatter with less muzzle flip

I have RCA on top of D wilson bolt carrier also. Good combo and good value also.

per conversation with dave/cgw. some times the tail the curled ends sticks out/twisted.... just bend back into alignment... if necessary. (i have yet to remove that spring) also make sure spring rides and stays in groove.

both good powders varget is a classic. some will say it doesn't meter well. 25 - 27 grain is a good start. if you have a scope google OCW testing this way you will get maximum accuracy out of pill powder components and barrel. what is twist rate or barrel? right now im shooting 23.5 xbr under the 55gr I need to test more. but its making tiny groups and killing steel steel and paper for the 3g 2g trainning

also wanted to mention that most pet loads are rifle specific, and matching bullet weight to twist rate... what is twist rate of your barrel All the 600 yard plus ALL the shots i've taken have been from prone bi pod, prone bag supported, and from a bench for load development i personally use a sock with rice and beans in it, some use poly beads they are known as sand socks, rear bag, even available commercially basically your non- trigger hand squeezes bag which is under butt stock. to get sight on target vertically. there is a bit of a learning curve in shooting prone precision/ shooting from bi pod/ bag supported

Pig you use OCW testing for load development at 100 an 200. You are pretty much done developing load. smaller targets will help a "bit " for simulating longer distances. Sight picture, breathing,shot control....... you will not have true dope for further distances. While ballistics programs will get you close try and get actual dope for longer distances. smaller target will NOT train you for mirage or wind or scope adjustments. i'd try and get some belly time at range that lets you shoot longer distances. any errors become exponentially larger at longer distances I'd spend some time on precision rifle forum/s, What are you using for elevation device,. Rice / sand sock? Bipod or bags?
