So in talking with a sponsored precision rifle shooter, he mentioned that he anneals his lapua brass and in doing so he no longer has a need to trim to length, and therefore loads ALL of his precision rifle ammo on his Dillon Progressive. Is anyone else doing this? Can someone explain the part of the annealing process that causes trimming not be needed anymore. i have decent understanding of annealing- having not done it but read many forums on it. But none mention it removing or reducing the frequency of trimming. I would love to not have to trim my rifle brass. It Would make my Dillon much more useful for precision rifle brass. -
Now that the 1-10 razor is hitting the market, is the price of the 1-6 likely to drop? Are there any good seasonal sales or deals coming up in the next few months? I have seen the 1-6 for around $1k-1100 at times. Should I just get the viper? Is it really 85% of the glass quality for half the price? I shoot to 400 yards max locally. Thank you!

WHAT: The Palmetto Sniper Challenge at Clinton House is a 3-day, ruck-style sniper match that will test the fitness, marksmanship, and determination of 2-man sniper teams in 3 different divisions. Teams may enter in a division where they; ruck and camp, just ruck, or ride to the stages. It is the most realistic sniper match in the country. A team of carefully selected Subject Matter Experts have lent their experience and expertise to build a sniper match that is unparalleled. Several have taken part in the setup or competed in the annual USASOC International Sniper competition. The SMEs are comprised of warfighters, LEOs, and competitive marksmen from elite military units and law enforcement agencies from around the country. Represented are: 3rd, 5th, and 7th Special Forces Groups of the US Army, JSOC, MARSOC, Force Recon Marines, FBI, CIA, Durham NC SWAT, and Minneapolis SWAT. The 12 stages will be divided into two categories. Roughly half the stages will be based on historical engagements from conflicts around the world or law enforcement engagements around the US. The other half will require the teams to successfully demonstrate the skills necessary to complete the curriculums of the toughest sniper schools in the nation. For many Tikka is the brand to go to when they want a rifle that is guaranteed accurate but doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Many just don't like the simple stocks, and put them in any one of the many aftermarket options. Now, Tikka has a model with a modular chassis on the way. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/06/15/new-tikka-unveiled-t3x-tac-a1/ Not sure when it will be available. Finnish shops seem to expect it in a couple of months. Sako - Tikka should have it at Shot Show, in about 2 weeks.

Wanting some input on what you guys find gives you the best grip for your PCC? I have looked at several magpul but they seem to be just hard plastic which is not good in sweaty hands etc.

I have had the Wilson Combat AR9 G now for almost eight months and am finding that I can't buy parts to maintain this rifle,in fact many don't even have a part number listed for them. I wanted to get new ejector springs which I was finally able to do by description but they won't send out the "pins" that hold the injector or their proprietary ejector plunger in place. I find that I have one that is loose in the bolt but I would have to send in the rifle for them to review. Now I own several of Wilson pistols as well and this is the first I have ever had a problem with getting parts needed to maintain my equipment and am wondering if anyone else is experiencing this, specifically with regard to the 9 mm AR 9 G rifle? The folks you talk to are all very nice but just say "we don't send out those parts". I have never had a company refuse to send parts out to maintain their product and so am really confused and frustrated. For me to have to send in my rifle to check a pin in the BCG is nothing short of a hassle in my opinion. Now I am very worried about other parts I might need going forward and thought I would reach out to others that might have some insight on this. The only parts listed for sale on their web site are the firing pin and firing pin spring. Thanks. Mike

Topton Fish and Game and Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club will be holding a 3 Gun series in 2016. It will be a four match series with all matches counting towards the prize table, but you can qualify for prizes shooting as little as one match. The match fee will be $30.00 per match, with a one time $30.00 fee if you want to be eligible for the prize table. The total for all 4 matches and the prize table will be $150.00. The prize table be made up up cash and some other prizes donated by sponsors. We will also hold a drawing for random cash prizes. Anyone that is eligible for the prize table and doesn’t finish in the cash or prizes will be entered into this random draw raffle. All cash and prizes are dependent upon the number of people that enter the points series by paying the extra $30.00. Once we know how many people have entered the points series we will announce the payout amounts. This match is more about having fun and introducing new people to the sport than having a big prize table. Points will be given by order of finish, the winner getting 100 points, 2nd place getting 98, third 97,4th 96 and so on. The winner gets one extra bonus point as we have done in the past. The matches will be April 17 and September 18 at Topton Fish and Game May 21 and October 30 at Ontelaunee Rod and Gun Club You will use all three guns at all the matches and we will be using the 200 yard range at Topton and the 300 yard range at Ontelaunee at both matches. We will honor the following divisions. Open, Tactical Optics, Limited (irons, or non-magnified dot), and Pistol Caliber Carbine. The prize table for each division will be based on the number of entries in that division, If we have less than 6 people in a division we will not payout for that division, but I will make posts here and notify the people in those divisions so they can switch division if they want. Division rules will follow 3 Gun Nation guidelines. For pistol caliber Carbine division we will have different long range targets, similar to what 3 gun nation is doing. We will only accept registration for people paying for and registering for all four matches until February 26th. The second URC rifle match is open for registration. This is a new club on the map for rifle matches. They were formed more than 100 years ago to train soldiers how to shoot in WWI. There are two classes: DMR - A scoped rifle with an optic capable of greater than 6x, or a bipod used. Any non-magnum caliber. RECCE - Any optic 6x or under and no bipod. Any non-magnum caliber. Most 3-gun rigs are well suited to participate in this class. This is an all rifle match. There is no pistol required. We will shoot six or seven stages and be on our way home by 1pm. Round count will follow but should be just north of 100 if you have occasion to fire them all. Max distance is 500Y for both classes. Min distance = 100Y. Expect lots of walking and running movers, distance shots, and flagrant use of the shooting tower. Don't be scared of the distance shots if you've never done them. Most are "shoot until you hit it." If you are a 3 gun shooter, your rifle game will definitely rise up with this kind of practice, and the longer shots won't be something to worry about anymore. I wasn't sure where to post this, so if a mod needs to move it, no butthurt here. Here is my pictorial for DIY silhouette targets. I've never measured them, but they are pretty close to life size. From now on say "Paper" not plastic. Cut it in half. Cut the top to the back. BOOM. Free sorta IDPA targets. -
I am trying to tighten up groups that tend to vertically spread as the barrel heats. I attribute this to tolerance stacking on the barrel extension to receiver fit. I have stainless shim stock to use to shim. My question is do you wrap around to the timing pin and leave a full length space for it or do you wrap all the way around and notch for the pin?

We will be having a Gas Gun match in Central Oregon on Saturday 2 April 2016. Match fee is $25 and you can register on Practiscore (see link below). After range fees are paid the match fees will go to the veteran charity The Red Circle Foundation. Match description is below. Where: This competition will take place at the Central Oregon Shooting Sports Association (COSSA) ranges located approximately 24.3 Miles east of Bend, Oregon. Follow Highway 20 east out of Bend to approximately MP 24.3 and turn north at the Shooting Range sign on Highway 20. COSSA has over 800 acres of premier range facilities available and is well known for the John Nosler 1,000 yard range and facility. This competition will consist of 5 stages of DM precision rifle competition. The stages will be conducted over challenging and varied terrain. General: Pre registration is required. The maximum number of shooters and staff accepted will be 18. Once the 18 slots are filled, we will create a waiting list and make notifications when and if openings become available. The COSSA 200 Yard sight in range will be available for use prior to the check-in period (see schedule below). This range has target stands at 100 and 200 yards and steel targets from 250-500 yards. Bench rests are available for use. Firearms must be transported from your vehicle unloaded, chamber flag inserted (for rifle only) and in a case (hard or soft), bag or pack. Rifles will be transported from stage to stage unloaded, chamber flag inserted and in their case/bag/pack. Handguns will be transported from stage to stage unloaded in a holster or in their case/bag/pack. Uncased/unbagged/unholstered firearms may only be handled at the safety table. Ammunition cannot be handled at the safety table. Safety tables will be clearly marked with signs. Violation of any of the above will result in a match DQ. Cartridge Requirements: No Ammo allowed that exceeds 3150 FPS. Absolutely no steel core or green tip ammo. We have magnets available if you are in doubt regarding the configuration of your ammo. If you destroy any of our steel with this type of ammo, you own the steel. After you pay us for it. Match Divisions: Open: 7.62 / 308, 260, 6.5 Limited: 5.56 / 223 Match Categories: Gas Gun Only Scoring: Scoring will be based on time with misses incurring a time penalty. Rifles: All Rifles must be in safe operating condition and have a functioning safety. Pistols: Pistols must be in safe operating condition. A minimum of 9mm caliber and maximum .45 caliber. No shoulder holsters or cross draw configuration holsters. Pistol holsters MUST cover the trigger guard of the pistol and the pistol must be secure in the holster. The holster must be worn on the belt, on the strong side of the shooter. Holsters attached to the front of tactical vests are not allowed. Remember, you may be running or moving out smartly with the pistol in your holster. If the pistol comes out of the holster and hits the ground, it’s an automatic match DQ. Pistol magazine pouches are highly recommended. Supporting Devices and Rangefinders: Only bi-pods are allowed. No pump pillows, shooting bags, or backpacks allowed for shooting support. Range finders are allowed unless noted otherwise in a particular stage description. Round Count: 50 Rifle / 30 Pistol Disclaimer: It has never happened but should fire danger become extreme BLM could cancel the match.

Has anyone heard of one of these? I would think it would be pretty easy to make, just wondering if anyone has made one? I know I could put a piece of rail on the end and use a Larue Q/D mount, but would love to have one that just attaches to the keymod itself. The other question does anyone run key mod with a q/d bipod, if so how do you do it?

Local club has informal 50 yard .22 Benchrest shooting and I'd like to participate by purchasing either a Kidd or Clark Custom 10/22. I have a choice of a one or a two stage trigger. Having never shot a two stage, I am reluctant to order my gun with one. So my questions are: Which company should I purchase from and why? Which trigger should I purchase and why? Is the Leupold 40 power Competition Scope worth the extra money over a Weaver T36? Thanks for your help.

Hello Everyone, I just wanted to get feedback on a custom build order I am about to submit to JP Enterprises. I have weighed the cost vs. benefit of building my own rifle, and decided (for a number of reasons) that I want JP to build mine. Their designs, craftsmanship, etc all fall in line with exactly the rifle I am looking for, so I really won't need to change a thing when I finally get it. My Build: JP-15 Upper/Lower Platform, Matte Black Anodized in .223 Wylde -18" Supermatch, 1:8 twist, light contour, black Teflon finish -Standard JP TRE-2 Comp, blended, black -Handguard: JP MK III Signature Tube, 15.5" Extra Long -Low Profile JP Adjustable Gas, black -JP Thermal Dissipator, black -TI-7 Adjustable Stock -Low Mass JP Carrier, black -JP Silent Captured Spring, std. weight -Comp Trigger, JP 3-3.5 lb. -Magpul MIAD grip, black -US Flag Lasermark (yup, it's happening) -2 inch rail for front sight, 12:00 position I actually called JP with a rough idea of what I was trying to build, and they were super helpful in helping me put together a solid build. Unfortunately, their CMT hours are hard for me to reach during a normal workday, so I figured you all could help. I am debating the Mk 3 Rapid Config tube instead of the signature, but it is really hard to tell from the website photos how aggressive the knurling is? I know the Mk 2 and prior were smooth aluminum, but the new Rapids are definitely textured. Just wondering if anyone runs this tube and how rough it really is? The weight savings of 3 ounces is worth considering (and no backplates needed for rail attachments). Also, does anyone have an 18" light bbl JP with (relatively) similar arrangements? The JP rifle builder does not specify the total build weight, which seems strange, but I actually put together a spreadsheet and came up with about 7.8 lbs (Signature tube), or 7.6 lbs (Rapid tube). Anyways, I know that was probably a boring read, but I am super pumped about submitting this order and want it to be perfect! Regards, Al

Tomorrow, the UPS driver will be delivering a batch of Lucas Oil Contact Cleaner and Extreme Duty Gun Oil. I'm hoping to retire all of my FrogLube products. They work fine, but I expect to get slightly better performance out of the Lucas Oil product line, given how I operate. However, I am missing at least one thing. What would be a good grease for higher wear locations on all three guns? Or am I over thinking this because the Extreme Duty product won't need the grease in spots? I'm accustomed to putting grease on slide rails and the like. Maybe one of the Lucas sponsored shooters has an opinion? Thank you all for your input and assistance.
