Where is a good place to pick up shotgun shells and gun cleaning supplies on the way from Houston to Liberty Hill?

Thanks.

Pat

There are some Academy Sports shops off I-35, Dicks has a place off of 130. Plus there are plenty of Wal-mart's. I wouldn't go past Georgetown with out stopping, as there is nothing really between Georgetown and Liberty Hill on 20.

Pat, down here in the lower 48 we have a chain of stores call Walmart that will carry these items.

Thanks everyone. I am going to buy shotshells down there. I am brining my pistol and rifle ammo as well as slugs and buck.

Pat

If you have time, be sure to stop by one of local sponsors, Guns Plus in Georgetown. They have a good selection of cleaning supplies, but you might want to call first to see what shotgun ammo they have on hand. Worst case, most Wal-Marts are open 24 hours.

Lol

Up here we have Wallmart as well but they don't have the selection of shells I need. The reason I am bringing my own rifle ammo is it shoots better than factory for accuracy at 1/3 the price. The reason for the pistol ammo is I shoot open with a .38 Super Comp. Your not going to find that on the shelves.

This may be a dumb question...but some images of the new 3gun target shows black and red contrasting targets...but on the mgm site they are plain brown squares or white squares with just perforated outlines of circles. Never having shot either, which one will we be seeing at the match?

Looking forward to it!

Everyone needs to check in at the range Thursday.

Registered may have been a poor choice of words. If you submitted your $$$, that registered your spot in the match. Everyone needs to "Check in/Register On Site" Thursday.

Holy crap I'm glad I stumbled into this thread. :surprise:

On Monday I'll ask my boss for more time off so I can try to get there by 6PM. Wish me luck!

Weather forecast for next weekend for Liberty Hill, TX:

Lows mid 60s, highs mid to upper 80s. 10% chance of rain Fri & Sat, 0% Sun. Winds ESE - SSE at 7 to 10.

Sounds like great shooting weather.

Expect to hear weather stories from the ROs - tomorrow shows 60% chance of rain with large hail. :surprise: (Actually, Liberty Hill has it better than here in College Station, where we actually rate a severe thunderstorm & tornado watch for Sun).

So all you ROs stay safe out there!

Dicks has 00B 15 shot packs for 16 dollars. At least the one in New Braunfels does. Good luck if you want reduced recoil slugs though. GT was where I got them last year but I haven't checked this year. I've got 20 of the Remington "sluggers" on hand already so I'm going with those. No pain no gain right? :)

Hey youngster, you shouldn't be worrying about a little recoil!

If I don't find them here I'll stop Thrusday in New Braunfels or Buda.

Hey Ron, I wouldn't waste your time stopping in Buda. When I dropped by there yesterday, a) they only had sabot slugs B) they had only a couple boxes of buckshot and they were 3" magnums, c) all of their birdshot shells were $1 to $3 dollars more than other places like Dicks and Academy for the same shells. The Academy in Austin off of Brodie has a surprisingly large selection of 00B buckshot.

Thanks for the heads up. I popped into academy and picked up that felt tip marker to add the Zero. :roflol: Actually I am in shock, I didn't take my reading glasses in, but I could make out the 00BK and 2 2/34 plus 12. When I got home they Say Managed Recoil - and Lower Recoil talk about blind luck! TRogRig go to academy if they are out get a recoil pad, a maxie.

I'm sticking with my Wolf Slugs! In the past they have got the job done, but new to me gun, first time toobing in open!:surprise:

Marcy and Sheldon asked me to post the following.

Shooters need to make every effort to register Thursday April 19th at the Best of the West shooting range. http://texasshootingrange.com/

Registration will be open from 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm Thursday April 19th.

We have 432 shooters registered!!! We need 99% of you to register Thursday evening.

We will only be able to register so many shooters (not many) Friday morning before the Shooters meeting (which last year was around 7:00 am).

If you absolutely can not register Thursday, registration will open Friday morning at 6:00 am.

We will not run late. We will shoot on time. There are a ton of shooters, and for everyone's enjoyment, we have to run on schedule.

It is the shooter's responsibility to register and be at your stage when it is your squad's turn to shoot.

Thanks everyone, this is going to be a great match.

Please clarify this for me: do all shooters need to ''register' on Thursday? I thought my registration form and $275 got me registered. Do I need to be at the range Thursday? I wasn't planning on going to the range Thursday because I'm already 'registered'?

Thanks

Not trying to be a PITA, but for those of us with jobs that won't allow us to be there by 6? What's the solution?

As noted above, there will be very limited check in/registration on Friday morning, but my understanding is that will close at 7:00 am

We have 400+ shooters in the match, and need as many people as possible, 99%, to register Thursday night.

Got through all 12 stages today at the RO match today. The weather looks like it will be crap tomorrow so we hustled through it. Back to back, no break - exhausted but it was a lot of fun. Shot WWII division and my M1 is filthy with range dust inside and out, as are my pistol and shotgun. We had sustained winds of 15mph pretty much all day with gusts 30+ frequently. The range was a dust bowl. A brief shower was welcomed, as it helped knock down the dust. I was glad I had a shemagh! It was a fun match and the stages move pretty fast. Lot of steel! Well done, Mr. Carruth!

Last year didn't they had the local PD with lights on at the entrance to guide the way in to the range

Yeah, but maybe not on Thursday night.

I shot the match with the ROs today. Lots of wind and dust, but not real hot which was nice.

I think I shot 114 rounds of.45 ACP in WW2 division. I didn't keep track of rifle, but figure at least 2/3rd to 3/4 of the regular round count. Lots of steel out there.
