  1. This looks interesting. I don't think I'd use it for competition guns over a Romeo3 or RTS2. I have two 407k ACSS, which uses a smaller compact footprint. The smaller housing fits nice on a thin CZ SP-01 and another on a P-01. I choose that optic for more defensive purposes and have been satisfied. I tried the 507c ACSS (RMR footprint) on my open gun but ditched it due to the chevron reticle. My profile pic shows that optic. I now use a Romeo 3 Max which is 30mm wide. The Romeo3 XL is 35mm wide. This PA offering is 26x20mm according to the manual.
  2. I worked up a +P load using WSF for 124gr Speer gold dots with good results. Velocity average was 1175 FPS using a full size CZ. Accuracy was excellent. I chose WSF because I was under the impression this load was close to 100% burn rate and would have less muzzle flash. I'm sorry I don't have the powder weight charge I used but I would work up with a chrono in your case. Check out Gordon's free reloading tool if you haven't before. It's pretty great at projecting potential loadings, including projected velocities, pressure and burn rates. Here's a quick video about it.
  3. I like loading them for subsonic loads to shoot suppressed out of a pcc.
  4. My pleasure. Your post had me researching if I should be using one. I found this older thread. It's definitely up for debate. The opinion from CGW not to use them is intriguing.

  6. I'm not sure as I've been the range twice with it and have only used the tripod so far. It might be mounted too far back in that picture. The instructions say 5-15 inches behind the muzzle and that my barrel is 24 inches. I will play around with it soon. Worst case, I will have to move the m- lok to ARCA adapter a few slots forward.
  7. The week I bought it, I read this 40+ page thread on Sniper's Hide and that very question was debated. One user brought up that Garmin's own media people were using the Area419 mount during the unveiling so it can't be all that bad. Time will tell of course. I think the majority of my shooting I will use the tripod, but it's a neat setup for engaging different targets at different angles without repositioning the chrono. I don't think the Gucci mounts are worth it for most. If it did go tits up, I'd hope a huge company like Garmin would make it right.
  8. Good write up! I agree it's a game changer. I was considering lab radar but once I learned about the Garmin I had to have it. I even got lucky and caught it in stock online at Bass Pro shop while they were running a 10% off ship to store deal. I got it shipped to a New Hampshire Bass Pro so there was no sales tax. And to top it off I bought a bunch of gift cards at discount to use. $503 all in! I got to pick it up after I shot a PCSL match at Sig Sauer the weekend after Thanksgiving. I got super lucky. I ended up buying a cheap ARCA to camera mount off Amazon so I could mount it directly to a couple of my rifles. Works great on the tripod too. I've already been a bad influence to a few of my friends that have also picked it up after seeing it in action.
  9. I agree, but I think it's more firearm dependent. Mags for 2011s, 1911, CZs, in my humble opinion, need to be cleaned out whenever they come in contact with dirt, dust, sand, mud, etc. If your range is nice grass or larger stone you could get away with it if it doesn't feel gritty when loading it back up. For striker fired, I couldn't be bothered to clean those mags in any condition. MBX's are my go to 2011 mags but I haven't bought any for CZs. The Mec-gars are great. I've used Taran, CZC, Taylor Freelance and Team AC pads with them with mostly Gram's springs and followers. I'm still testing the Team AC kits as well as the Rune Tactical kits as I don't trust them yet. Most of the time having 24 in the mag doesn't make a difference so I end up using a mag with Gram's kit.
  10. I don't use buffers in my CZ's but I did some searching so hopefully this information is helpful. It looks like the only places I can find in the US that sell the CZ OEM buffer set is the CZ USA web store and Ben Stoeger shop and as you stated they are both out of stock. Some overseas options that might work: https://www.ericgrauffelonlineshop.com/en/cz-shadow-2-orange/971-cz-buffer-set--9384045005246.html https://cesar-shop.com/firearm-parts-en/pistol-en/slide-parts-en/original-cz-buffer-thin/?sef_rewrite=1&currency=USD EEMANN TECH makes a thin buffer set for CZs. I can't speak to the quality as I have not used them. I can't find them in stock stateside but they are available from these Euro sites: https://www.cz-parts.com/cz-shadow-2-cz-75b-sp-01-shadow-set-of-thin-buffers https://www.ipscstore.com/en/eemann-tech-cz-shadow-2-parts/12574-eemann-tech-thin-buffer-set-for-cz-shadow-2.html
  11. Older post I know, but have you tried Gordon's reloading tool? It's pretty sick once you get a feel for it. Here's a independent YouTube video about it: And here s link to the software community: https://www.grtools.de/doku.php
  12. Excited to shoot this match once again! It has been a awesome experience, run by a great crew, for a great cause. The only thing to fix is the weather when I shoot!.. lol. I was there 3 year ago and last year and had torrential rain both times. The staff remained positive and a good time was still had by those that toughed it out. If you're on the fence, I highly encourage anyone to sign up.
  13. My GF and I shot it last year for the first time while on vacation. We were debating the Open vs the Florida State and we chose wrong. It was pricey but we had heard good things. Unfortunately, as Waktasz said, that was during the Shannon Smith era and was no longer the case. It was advertised as a level two match but they bumped it to a level one. Excerpts from my GF's FB post: $220 for a “major match” at Universal Shooting Academy that was supposed to be split squads Saturday AM/Sunday PM or Saturday PM/Sunday AM. A week before the match, squads were consolidated into Saturday/Sunday (with no times listed) and no notice given. 48 hours before the match, everyone was switched again to Saturday only with a “start time” of 7:30 and a statement that there would be no match book. My emails regarding whether 7:30 was registration or first shots went completely unanswered. Thank heavens we knew some staff to ask or we would have been completely in the dark. 12:53 pm on Friday, another email was received stating “Registration is today from 13h00 to 17h00”…nothing like 7 min notice about registration. I reply almost immediately that we won’t be making it to registration since we are hours away. The only reply is “yes” to a question I never asked. We arrived at 6:45 am to find that registration is meaningless. There is no swag bag, no tshirt, nothing. Starting at 7:45 and going through 11:45, we shot 9 of the 10 stages. None of which had movers or swingers or anything remotely technical. As we began to prep for our 10th and final stage, they called a hard stop for ONE HOUR for lunch. They didn’t serve lunch to shooters…only staff. That last stage, including the hard stop for no lunch, was 1 hour 45 min.
  14. No hard date yet. Derek from SIG on area 7 FB said end of January and to stay tuned. https://www.facebook.com/groups/70581304443/permalink/10161099022414444/?mibextid=rS40aB7S9Ucbxw6v
  15. In my very limited experience, every build with a CGW hammer (with their adjustable sear and also with fitting the factory sear or safety to engage the safety with the hammer back) allows the safety to go up with the hammer down. I know you're not supposed to pull the trigger if this is the case. The reason I mention it is because I've engaged the safety without doing it on purpose. Such as drawing and transitioning to my weak hand for the first shot or just messing up with the strong hand draw. I understand this is a training issue and not necessarily a gun issue. David of CGW has mentioned on the CZ forums that this is just unavoidable with his parts. On the other hand, I have two builds with CZC hammers that do not allow the safety to go up with a hammer down. I don't believe every build is like this as I also have one SPO1 with a CZC hammer that does let the safety go up with the hammer down. I'm not sure how to consistently achieve this, I just know it's possible. Both shops do excellent work, and I've been very happy with my CGW builds.
  16. I like to tune up all my CZs. My competition safety models all have the CZC Comp hammer and the CZ-UB Pre-B drop in disconnector. Those parts, with the good polish job, will get you a real nice trigger. You can replace the firing pin with an extended one, add a Rami or CGW reduced weight firing pin spring and reduced weight trigger return spring to allow you to use a lower hammer spring weight to significantly reduce the double action trigger pull weight. I use the 8.5 lb CGW hammer spring with federal primers and have 100% ignition on my two CO shadows. Double action trigger pull is sub 5 lbs. I bump The Hammer spring up to 11.5lbs for other ammo. It adds about a pound to the double action trigger pull. I've tuned guns that could not use the 8.5 lb spring reliably so your results may vary. The reason I prefer the CZC hammer is because I don't like how the CGW hammer allows the safety to go up with the hammer down. My carry guns, which are decocker models, all have the CGW Pro Kit. It's a pretty sweet setup.
  17. I started using Pro Grip a few years ago especially where my hands overlap, grip of left fingers and outside of right. I use it everywhere if it's hot out or humid. I bought primo chalk when I started grip training and am using the gym chalk when dry firing now.
  18. I usually change the recoil spring every 5k. The hammer, trigger return, firing pin spring every 10k. I don't like to do the extractor that often even though I have spares. I've never changed any of the other springs. Does anyone change the sear spring regularly? For production mags I used to just buy new mec-gar mags every couple years at $20 a pop and use the old ones for practice/local matches only. CO mags should probably have springs replaced every year or so.
  19. Those look like they are cut for a magwell. There is an option on the henning site but they don't show any pictures. https://www.henningshop.com/H141-MC17_it-1464117.aspx?CAT=10024
  20. Fellas, thanks for the good info on a 507 comp. The lack of brightness issues are concerning. I did not know about them. I was considering using a 507 comp on my Scalarworks sidekick mount of my LVPO since it has an RMR footprint. My open and direct mount carry optic guns are pot committed with Romeo 3 Max's at this point and I've been happy with the shape and brightness of the Max. I've only had one break so far and had a new one in the mail immediately. I know there's no perfect red dot in existence. Right now, for the side kick, I'm considering an SRO with the JagerWorks Bro, or an RMR HD, or RCR, as well as the full size Holosun enclosed emitters. I assume the Holosun EPS and 509Ts would have the same low brightness issues? I'll have to research more...
  21. Thanks for the good info! I would be interested on maybe doing something similar with my 97b one day. I am hesitant to try any of the newer 22 conversion kits on my CZ's because they all have light springs. I had the original kadet kit and I struggled with reliability issues. I even converted my SP01 to single action only with an extra power hammer springs up to 24 lbs and still would get failures to fire. I got frustrated and sold off the kit.
  22. I agree, Dan Wesson makes a great 1911 at a very competitive price point. I was sad to sell my set on the forums here but I barely ever competed with them. My CZs and 2011s seem to get get all my attention. I would like to get another Wesson one day, maybe a long slide.
  23. I'm glad to hear you're frankenmags ran great and I hope they have still been trouble free. I used to have a Dan Wesson with a PM 9 slide and a custom 40 cal slide. I would get stove pipes with the PM 9 slide with Dawson mags as well as stove pipes on the 40 slide with Cobra trip mags. I did the brass test and found my extractors were weak. I ended up buying a couple tools from https://www.jackweigand.com/index.html His Extractor Tension Gauge Set paired with my Lyman digital trigger pull gauge gave me good data when testing my extractors. I found both extractors at less than half tension of what was expected. I also picked up his Extractor Adjusting Tool. These tools got both slides running 100%. If you run into any problems I highly recommend the tension gauge.
  24. I just want to thank @kneelingatlas for this post almost 10 years later. When you first made this post I had one CZ, a SP-01. I printed out your guide, hole punched it and put it in a binder, with schematics, that I followed on my first time detail stripping my CZ for upgrades. It all started during my first year competing outside of my local indoor range. I was squadded with a random shooter at a steel match in NJ who also had a CZ. I wish I could remember his name, but he asked if I had done any upgrades to my CZ. I had no idea what he was talking about but he let me dry fire his CZ and my eyes opened to the possibilities. He told me check out your guide here and buy some new parts from CGW and/or CZC. He said the spring kit and a polish makes a huge difference but I had to go all in with the Cajun pro kit. Since then, I've worked on a few shadows, S2, 75B, 97B and even lived through working on my decocker models: Phantom, Rami BD, PCR and P-01. I can't shoot any other production guns now and I've become a hammer snob only accepting 1911 and 2011s. So thank you for helping me see the light!
