  1. I suffer from the same acid skin oils that you're referring to. I rusted my STI mad as well. I tried polishing then and waxing, still rusted. Wiped them down constantly, still rusted. I finally got fed up enough that I sent them off to WMD Guns and had 4 mags NiB-X coated. Took about 6 weeks turnaround. I really like them.
  2. Damn, that was some good stuff. I still have a stash of about 200 rounds of it.
  3. Just got notice from Midway: Clays 14oz in stock! http://www.midwayusa.com/product/911208/hodgdon-clays-smokeless-powder
  4. Yeah, not the same as running Tula, silver bear, monarch or other crappy Russian steel cased ammo.
  5. Your SP 01 if still legal (meaning completely unmodified) for SSP, it is legal for ESP. So long as you remain legal in SSP, you will remain legal for ESP. Modify the gun in a way that would remove it from SSP and you lose ESP as well.
  6. The change in holster would be a bigger factor than the cover garment. I know one IDPA master shooter that uses the same holster for 3 different sports. He was so accustom to his IDPA rig that the slight variance for his USPSA rig caused him issues when drawing. This was a shooter that made master by practicing right and being naturally agile. His draw was so fine tuned, just his holster being a 1/2" different was given him fits. I've drawn from concealment for IDPA and w/o for multi gun matches. Doesn't change a darn thing for me.
  7. Using heavier bullets is the way to go if you're trying to achieve a softer perceived recoil while obtaining PF. But if PF isn't a concern, go with a lighter bullet. 3.0gr of powder X and 115gr bullet will be softer than 3.0 of powder X and 147gr bullet. Go with a lower grain bullet. Then work up your powder charge until it cycles reliably.
  8. +2 for Ghost. Very good retention and they still slide out smoothly.
  9. So pretty it hurts.
  10. With the right springs (9# recoil 17# mainspring) you could probably run 115gr over 3.0gr of N320. I tried 2.8gr of Clays under 115 LSWC and was still able to cycle just fine. Just smokey because of the lube and low powder charge.
  11. Probably more noticeable when just admiring it in your home, not so much when your punching a ragged hole with it.
  12. The few sanctioned matched I've shot, the SO's will inform you of what they're looking for as far as cover for shots that may get you in trouble. That may just be in my neck of the woods, YMMV.
  13. I had two shooters comment on my ballet skills last week. I didn't get the joke so they had to explain it to me. I didn't even realize that I was using my legs as a counterbalance. Not sure how long I have been doing that, but it must feel pretty comfortable since I don't notice it.
  14. Why not see what MBX has in the 126mm mags?
  15. 2-3 years ago I had Gary build my 9mm 2011. Took about a week. Excellent turnaround and very reasonably priced. Just had Gary do some slide work done. Again, week turnaround and great results. May have him build me another 2011 next year.
  16. Just got my CCP back from Gary at Gans Guns. All steel 9mm, 34.4oz w/o mag.
  17. After owning this Guardian for the better part of 4 years, I finally got the nudge I needed (thx steviesterno) to get some work done. I hit up Gary at Gans Guns. Gary built my 1st custom 2011, so I already knew that his work was quick and very reasonable priced. After a few emails back and forth, I sent Gary the top end of my STI to have a few modifications made to better suit my tastes. As always, Gary came through for me with a tri-top, reverse flush cut crown and carry cuts. Looking to have a Harrison CC hammer installed and go with SVI long flat trigger in the future. Then of course have it Hard Chromed or Ion Bonded. Still unsure on the refinish.
  18. Doh! I saw 1.45 and automatically read 1.145...
  19. That's a long OAL for 9mm. For a CZ, maybe. For a 1911/2011 that's probably close to the average.
  20. You could use a non ported barrel in it and that would make it legal.
  21. He probably gets a new gun each time he shoots. Or at the very least, a complete rebuild.
  22. Are you nutz? This is the internet. Not only do we pass judgement but we execute before the "alleged" crime is even committed.
  23. OP, sorry to have derailed this thread. Tony, thanks for sharing the observation. It's always insightful to see how things are playing out outside of our own neck of the woods.
  24. What facts do you have to support that? And when I commented about trolls, it was not directed at anyone on this thread. I just happen to notice a number of people posting on the IDPA sub forum that aren't being constructive. If this behavior is being mirrored in the USPSA forums by our members, I would like to apologize on their behalf. It's easy to find fault in things. Seems finding the good isn't.
