  1. Ease of gas block adjustability can also be a factor.
  2. Just easier that way. I've found I'm used to staging the trigger, and had a AD into a target (It was a A zone hit!) because I was trying to take up the slack, but with the hammer back there was barely any room for it to move. Hammer forward is the way to go in my mind. Get some dry fire practice in. Starting hammer down because you lack trigger discipline isn't a good reason. In a short while you'll build up your confidence. Don't let one AD discourage you.
  3. Definition: The weight you gain after getting married and can't seem to lose.
  4. I had a custom gun being built. I wanted custom ammo to feed it. =D
  5. It's his game. If you don't like the rules, don't play the game. And if you decide to not play the game, don't allow yourself to be annoyed by something you don't participate in. It's not worth the heartburn.
  6. I like my 15" so much that when I built my .22 upper I used the same HG again.
  7. Glad to hear you found a new passion GOF. Anyone know how long ACs hold their position for? Our AC is also new for TX but our last one wasn't AC for very long.
  8. Does IDPA ever do anything wrong IYO? Are there things about IDPA I don't like? Yes. Do I take the time and effort to vent frustrations about mistakes I made then blame the rulebook or someone else? Nope.
  9. So admittedly you bombed the test because of your own doing but IDPA is to blame? Our club has lost maybe 2 SOs in the past year. We've added about 5-6 in that time.
  10. Not that it happens often, but I can stuff a CCI primer in a crimped primer pocket with less chance of crushing it. I found that federal and Winchester buckled under pressure. And cheaper is a big plus.
  11. Sweet! I think your Mozambique times would be faster and more accurate with the DE than the automag. Lol.
  12. Makes the DE .50 AE look like a 9mm! Put a smile on my face watching that clip. Thanks for sharing! =)
  13. http://wilsoncombat.com/new/handgun-bill-wilson-carry.asp#.VP8DzvnF9p8 Because his carry gun model is a 4" barrel. bingo! SSP and CCP is only .5" difference. makes more sense if it has 3.5" barrel limit. but what do you expect from a business driven organization? USPSA disclosed that the driving factor for their weight limit for their new CO division was to keep S&W and Springfield on as match sponsors. We shouldn't pretend that IDPA is real world preparation just like we shouldn't pretend that all shooting organizations aren't in the business of making money.

Using ESP rules includes Bills compact 1911s. I wonder if IDPA had went with optics if they would have done so only to cater to the polymer gun manufactures like USPSA did for CO.
  15. Looks really good! I just happen to be dreaming up the same thing for an STI of mine. Going to have to do it now.
  16. The OP asked if IDPA is fun to shoot. Many of us feel that it is. It's a very subjective answer. The only way for the OP to know is to try it himself.
  17. Normally, even shooting bare lead out of my 9 and 45 I didn't get leading. So there's something definitely amiss there. Have you contacted Donney yet about your issue?
  18. Has anyone taken a wide SDC frame and made it into a railed frame? Can it be done? I'm really wanting to take the slide off of my STI Guardian and putting it on a wide SDC 2011 frame. Essentially making it a railed STI VIP. I know it won't be cheap to do, but it would be everything I wanted in a CCP IDPA gun.
  19. Some are light and/or movement sensitive. They activate when you draw. Others have a ridiculously long battery life. You leave it on, morning, noon and night. Then keep a strict regiment on when you change the battery depending on your expected life span. Then there are the fiber optic / tritium combo. They require no batteries. The fiber optic covers you during daylight hours and the tritium during the low/no light hours.
  20. It's obviously fun for many or it wouldn't be around. Clearly it's not everyone's game of choice. It doesn't have to be. With so many shooting sports, there's something for everyone. Give it a try. If you like it, great! If you don't, then atleast you can say you gave it a try but it wasn't for you.
  21. Did you guys necro a nearly 3yr old thread?
  22. Not sure how much a match is in your neck of the woods, but our club charges $10 for members. That doesn't include range fees. If they charged as much for USPSA, I'd look at it as a deal compared to IDPA. But I'm more of a half full kind of guy. While it would be nice to use the full capacity of our guns, it's no different that the mag capacity USPSA placed on production. Let's be realistic, not all state laws are equal. To have a more even playing field, sacrifices have to be made.

    BUG guns

Little more info on XDs would be appreciated. Which one you used , pros , cons...? It was a year ago that I shot and it belonged to a friend that allowed me to use it in order to compete in the match. It was one of the 1st gen XDs, 3.5" barrel? Compelety bone stock. No trigger work, no spring mods. I didn't use the extended mags. It exaggerated my horrid trigger control. I had to shoot about 4" high at 15yds because I thought the sights didn't match my handloads. I found that to be user error as that issue vanished as soon as I shot from a rest. It was comfortable to shoot in 9mm but my pinky was curled up under the mag. Years of riding the thumb safety on my 1911/2011s also caused me to ride the slide lock on the XDs because of where it's positioned. I've never had an issue with the 1911 grip safety during competition but the little XDs compact grip safety had me readjusting my grip during one stage when I was unable to squeeze the trigger after attempting a weakhand shot. I can't recall how many weakhand shots I made with the gun but I only had the 1 flub with it. It ate my standard bunny fart loads (147gr Bayou's over 3.0gr of Clays, 133PF at 1.145 OAL) with no hesitation. Never had a light strike or a malfunction (minus my not gripping the gun properly weakhanded) of any kind. Granted that was only about 500rds over the course of 1 month. I did win my division/classification for the match, beating out the owner whom lent me the XDs. So I didn't ask to borrow it again after that.
