  1. Have them try NP3. Had to get my 2011 mags done in NP3 to prevent rusting. My skin oils are so acidic that I tarnish tungsten carbine.
  2. Could be your friend was fondling your toy while it was under his care.
  3. I suppose if I were to take out the STI guardian as well, I'd have another 4" reference. I can't say for certain, but Internet lore seems to be saying that each gun and barrel is unique and that each will have its own, if not trivial, differences.
  4. I decided to run a comparison of loads to see what velocity difference was being had between the 5" barrel of my STI and the 4" barrel. Obviously your results may vary but I wanted people to get a ballpark idea of what could be expected. I took my time and ran 10 shots over the chrony set at 10'. In an attempt to be as consistent between shots, I would raise the barrel in a vain attempt to keep the powder in the rounds in the back of the casing then slowly lower my sights. In hind sight this probably didn't accomplish anything seeing as the 147gr bullet is probably already kissing powder when seated. Following the chrony test I put 10 shot groups for comparison. The groupings were fired from the 5" at a range of just 7 yards. The 3 bullets we have today are the coated Acme 147gr (no lube ring), Bayou Bullet 147gr (lube ring) and Zero 147gr JHP. All rounds were loaded to an OAL of 1.150 with 3.2gr of Clay Dot. The 2 guns peforming the tests are the 5" Gans Guns 9mm STI w/ schuemann barrel and STI Costa VIP 4.0 w/ STI barrel. Again, YMMV. STI Costa

Steel. Weighs is at about 34oz with empty mag and Dawson base pad.
  6. Unless you're loading on the edge of minor PF, it won't matter.
  7. I've run the Nike heat gear in Texas summer matches and it's been fantastic. Sure, I drank plenty of liquids but I never felt fatigued. I was running the long sleeves top, no jersey and full length tights under my shorts. Kept the sun off my skin and I never felt overheated.
  8. Everything is so much simpler when you fly solo! I forgot that flying could actually be enjoyable when you aren't flying with additional baggage. I almost feel unprepared after the demand of a wife and 2 toddlers requires.
  9. Started a new thread in the gallery as to not derail this thread.http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=231660

    STI Costa

Recently picked up one of STI's newest offerings for 2016, the Costa VIP 4.0. I was in the market for a new 2011 Guardian when I found this. I love it. Had everything I was looking for in the Guardian and a few more goodies to boot. While I'm not a fan of the Costa branding, the aesthetics were hard to ignore. It's my first handgun that isn't blued and I have to say, wow. I'm not sure if it's the DLC finish, but the fit and finish of this STI is much nicer than other models I've handled. I'd still like to get an SVI trigger installed, but that can wait.
  11. It's a tie between Tombstone & The Professional. Both had an excellent cast, great action and terrific stories.
  12. I can't remember the last time my thumb touched a hammer. Rack the slide to cock the hammer, pull the trigger to drop it. Rinse and repeat.
  13. Nothing has even changed for 2016 and yet people are jumping out of windows from a building that isn't even on fire. In the past 6 months or so, the most you here about it at our club is if a shooter has a great raw time but has too many 1 down. Then it becomes an opportunity to rib someone. Sure, many of us aren't keen on the new score change that will eventually happen, but there will be few members from our club that leave. Those that do are the ones that probably aren't found something else to scratch their trigger finger. And that's ok in my book. As long as they're still involved in shooting sports we all win.
  14. Federal are a notoriously soft primer. Have you tried something firmer like CCI? Edit: I ask because I've loaded 147gr with 3.4gr under it and not had flattened primers. That was with both S&B and CCI primers. I also was loading to 1.150 OAL. Apples to apples, the 147gr would have less case space than a 124gr loaded to the same OAL. That was Zero JHP and I was getting 140pf.
  15. Steel frame. With Dawson base pad on the mag, it weighed in at 34.5oz if memory serves me.
  16. I was really looking at CZ for a CCP gun. My train of thought was to try and keep as few platforms in my stable as possible. CZ guns for SSP and CCP. 2011s for ESP and CDP. And maybe a M&P 9C for BUG. Well, that went to hell when I bought a gun on impulse... Introducing my new CCP gun...... The STI Costa VIP 4.0
  17. I may be mistaken, but Tim at Taccom has made a small mod to the Reddi Mag adaptor to work with his uppers. I haven't fired enough rounds through my 2 uppers from Taccom to say whether or not they're 100% match reliable. But their CS is top notch and I have always enjoyed calling and vein able to speak with Tim.
  18. It may only be 9mm, but it does recoil more than a .223. We can all agree that isn't very much at all. But the 9mm does cause the dot to dance more and that is much more noticeable.
  19. The stock trigger is no better or worse than you would find on a stock AR, just not as gritty. And yes the bolt does lock back after the last round.
  20. Mark, Does the solution have to be replaced after each run or is it just dependent of how fouled the solution is? Looking at this as an alternative to just hosing my 2011 with Hornady One Shot over a trash barrel.
  21. Mark, Does the solution have to be cleaned after each run? Or is it just dependent of how fouled the solution is?
  22. You must really like pizza. Assuming you're asking about the M&P Performance Center 9. Not 100%, but with a barrel swap, yes. Only plus I see in using one for SSP is the over travel stop that the pro doesn't have. Otherwise you're probably still goin to gut the internals and go with Apex.
  23. No tumbling using my 147gr loads in my 4". But I did bump up the charge an additional .2gr to account for the barrel length and higher recoil spring rate.
  24. This is one show the family can enjoy during dinner time and I don't have to worry about bombarding my toddlers with inappropriate language and adult topics. Love how they keep giving the old Home Improvement cast cameo appearances and then make subtle jokes about it. Wife and I love Family Guy as well, but it's differently not kid friendly.
