I LIKE either a NARROWER than standard FRONT sight or a WIDER than standard REAR notch...gives me more "Light" on either side of the front sight...have a 686 that a local 'smith added a .100-inch front blade to...with the "Standard" .125 -inch rear notch, it is about right FOR ME. I also have a coupla' S&W's with F/O front sights...I've widened the rear notches--using a "Very Extra Narrow" Pillar File from Brownell's--to about .145-.150 inch...seems to work well FOR ME, YMMV....mikey357

GOOD THREAD!!! ...First off, Mark Morganti at "Gemini Customs, LLC" can be accessed thru his e-mail: yoda1911@hughes.net OR by 'phone @ 502-226-1230. His website appears to be "Down"...probably a "Domain Name" thing... Second, I believe lots of people CAN produce very good results on their own actions...but it is NOT for everyone...SOME PEOPLE can't remove a screw without "Screwing It Up"!!!...Pun INTENDED... Third, there WAS a "Drop-In Action Job" at some point in the past...the "Roller Action" from Cylinder and Slide...most of 'em were VERY GOOD...not as good as Randy's work, but better than MOST "Advanced Amateurs" could produce... Nomex Suit on...Ready for "Incoming"!!!....mikey357

Dave, THANKS for the info! Have you tried an SDM or an EGW fiber-optic front? They're pretty cool...I've got the EGW in my "Steel Shootin'" 686, and an SDM on my 625 "JM"...like 'em both!!!....mikey357

WOW!!! Quite the ESOTERIC collection of parts there...Stainless, Blued chrome-moly AND Titanium!!!...I'm sure it's a SHOOTER...why dontcha' tell us about it??? Which "Base Gun" did you use? What is the "Donor Barrel" off of? Are the LPA's "Stock", or did they wind up with a wider notch?...TIA....mikey357

I Shot The Black Rifle...and I Got Hard....
mikey357 replied to Pin Shooter's topic in Revolver Forum
Hop, I must correct you...the M1A is NOT the "Revo" of the semiauto rifle world, the GARAND is!!!...it even comes with eight-round "Moonclips"!!!... ....mikey357 -
...as far as the 2007 Georgia State Steel Match goes, I just got off the phone with Glen Webber, the MD...STILL a few spots left...come on out and "Make The Steel Ring"!!!....mikey357

Paul--That's some pretty NEAT "Recontouring" to the barrel on the "Open" gun!!! Any idea how much weight you "Lost" with the recontour job??? The C-more...is that a "Railway" or a "Slide Ride"??? If it's the "Slide Ride", whose mount is that???...TIA....mikey357

Doug, you WILL enjoy this gun!!! I spent about a half a brick--new measure of time--of CCI "Mini-Mags" out in the backyard with my four-inch 617 this afternoon...mid-to-high 50's, temperature-wise...got in a lil' "Steel" practice... ...the pic was taken during the Summer, but it was STILL FUN today!!!....mikey357

Bill, those are a coupla' NICE-lookin' "Roundguns"!!! Very "Tricky", that cut-down SDM front sight... How difficult was it to get Al Greco to work on your gun? I ask because a friend from PA told me that Greco was one of the better S&W "Tuners" around, IF you could get him to work on your gun...not exactly sure WHAT he meant by that?!?!....mikey357

Only a week and a half remaining...can't wait!!!....mikey357

I recently started "Playing" with a Speed-Sec holster, using a coupla' different 686's...I LIKE the idea of being able to use ONE holster for more than one barrel length WITHOUT having to "Monkey" with the holster...I AM having what I THINK is a il' bit of a problem getting it adjusted to my liking...In fact, I wondering if my holster might be "Short" a part or two...is the C-shaped "Lever" that pivots in and out of the trigger guard supposed to be spring-loaded, or is it just held in place via "Screw" tension???...might clear up a thing or two about my "Adjustments"...TIA....mikey357

THAT is one NEAT "Race Revo"!!!...let us know how it shoots when you have a chance to REALLY "Wring It Out"....mikey357

GLAD you're Okay...looks like the GUN is FUBAR, tho'...I'd be interested to hear what Leupold says about the scope...on the same note, the RINGS look okay...and the grips...what're you gonna do with those grips???... ....mikey357

...going back to something DougC said...about three months ago at the local "Steel Match", we had SEVERAL people shooting various .22 CONVERSIONS...a coupla' Marvels, a Kimber, a Ciener on a 1911 and an Advantage Arms on a Glock...I don't recall ANY of 'em going the whole match...only five stages, BTW...without a MALF...MEANWHILE, a co-worker, his daughter and I shot the course using two Ruger MKII's between us...his gun hadn't been out of the safe in a few years, and the ammo looked as old as his daughter...I can recall only ONE M-F between us, using the MKII's...a Failure to Fire with his CRAPPY Remington Bulk-Pack stuff...sign ME up for a MKII...OR a ten-shot 617, IF I can ever get the trigger "Right"...FWIW....mikey357

Ha, Ha...VERY Funny!!!...except that the "Pointy Hat" is called a "Mitre", and the "Scepter" is really a "Crozier"...Twelve Years of Parochial School to remember THAT...Mom and Dad, I hope you're PROUD, wherever you are.......mikey357

Well, let's see...the "Good News" is that it is a five-inch gun that'll take the "Classic" front sights, and it says "Performance Center" on it...bad news is, it probably needs a "Real" Action Job, it costs half again as much as a "eEgular Production" 625, AND it has a "Non-Standard" Barrel configuration, at least at the muzzle end...Make it in 10mm, I'd buy one...no thanks as a .45 ACP!!!....mikey357

Hey, Paul...WHEN are you guys doing the "Icore" Match thing???...Augusta is a lil' bit of a drive from Griffin--then again, EVERYWHERE is--but if I have some advance notice and can work out the "Work Schedule" thing, I'd like to try it...TIA....mikey357

FWIW, the STEEL cylinder out of my 625-2 weighs 8.4 oz., the SHORT steel cylinder from my 625-8 PC "Jerry" gun weighs 7.7 oz., and the Ti wheel from my 325 PD checks in at 5.0 ounces...these weights are for the entire cylinder assembly...ejector "Star", ejector rod, etc., and were determined on a VERY accurate digital scale..HTH....mikey357
