  1. Here ya go http://www.ar15fornoobs.com/mil-spec-vs-commercial-spec-buffer-tubes
  2. Made my own back in 1990 not very hard to do and really inexpensive same one fits my open gun and my 5" SS
  3. mpeltier it takes a lot of work to get an AR to balance like an M-1 Garand or '03 Springfield just ask the CMP shooters mine is around 8.5-9 Lbs. and balances about 1" forward of the front pin but I haven't "upgraded " to a Vortex yet just an old Tasco 4x16 for now as an experiment when I was building I took some 230 LRN projectiles and slid them into the tubes on my Magpul stock to play with the balance foam earplugs kept them from rattling but have since removed them . I like it a bit nose heavy
  4. JP used to do this to 1100s about 15 years ago or so a buddy had one and he loved it could run a rack of plates really fast too. Loud but worked way batter than porting or a ported choke due to it being back where there was actually pressure to use while the shot column traveled vs. the relatively short barrel with porting/ported chokes Great project and look forward to watching it evolve while creating great memories of Dad/Son time
  5. back in 92 or 93 they along with Federal etc. went to the larger box style something to do with HAZMAT shipping I think was the reasoning I remember my dad getting the then new and Massive Dillon flip tray I think it was yellow anodized then (mine is a black one) I have a few of the white box SRPs left I remember buying them in a gun shop long since gone from a good friend who has also long since passed and him taping the 100 ct. boxes after pulling them out of the 1000ct. box/sleeve ( no plastic) so they wouldn't open until "I wanted them to open" they don't have the no open tabs the new box has in the back Later on I just bought them 1K at a time . stored in an ammo can they still pop with authority Still have an old rcbs smaller tray somewhere around here
  6. I taper crimp all my pistol rounds even my revolver ammo here is what I do. resize a casing index past the powder and seating station to the crimp station and run the ram up turn the taper crimp die down to contact the casing lower case add 1/8th. to 1/4 turn run case back into die to get it all aligned and set lock ring load a dummy and check with chamber or gauge and follow up with a straight edge to verify no bell remains I do use a FCD with my .223 but not convinced I really need it as they drop into the Wilson gauge and my barrel before that step and due to neck tension don't set back guess I'll call it an insurance step and for those of the roll vs. taper crimp try pulling a round set up both ways pulling a TCd .148 HBWC is quite a bit more work to pull than even a stout roll crimp and my .357s have never shifted under recoil I will say that too much crimp either way will screw with your accuracy so remember just remove the bell and get back below resized case dimension and no more. Has worked for me for over 25 years. John
  7. 18" Black Hole Weaponry Standard Profile Rifle Gas 0.88" under hand guard and .750" from gas block forward black finish with a Cooley comp.
  8. http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmtraj-5.1.cgi set for your current zero and keep playing with intermediate points until you get what you are looking for distance wise then reset zero to new distance and you will have your +/- for your current distance which once reset should give you the new zero basically you are pushing the trajectory curve further away so you should be low @ 25m to zero at 37.5m as you should still be rising from bore line to line of sight. of course you should shoot it at the new zero distance to verify
  9. Still have my Lamp from Gil Hebards in my Bullseye box Champions Choice still sells them I think and damn I am out of Carbide oh well not much Bullseye going on around here anyways and I bet indoor ranges would have a fit if you sparked one off
  10. Lot of guys back before 3 gun etc. ran the Hogue free float tubes If I recall correctly looks like one there
  11. Single Stack Open ? yeah there was such a thing back before Para frames when comps had only 2 ports and Chip McCormick was selling magazines and then new "prepped" parts kits Late 80s early 90s Some folks went for long slides as recoil management but Dots were mostly Tasco PDPs before a Dentist came out with a "Serendipity" Circa 1990 LaRocca .38Super two-toned and a Practical Pistol Services 10mm both single stacks
  12. you end up seating the old one using the new primer as a "ram extension" the new primer gets crushed in the process leaving bits and priming compound everywhere used to get that occasionally loading crimped 9mm that didn't want to deprime fully
  13. wonder what the Game Warden would say come duck/goose season might have to Velcro one on my Beretta 390ST
  14. reminded of the pic of BE with a huge frikken laser on a Bianchi revolver I think, Lasers have come a long way I wouldn't have a problem with them being used however how good would they work on a typical sunny day ?
  15. in the white is about as protected from wear as blued so as long as you are lubed up you are ok as far as wear is concerned just keep a light film on the white metal to avoid a flash rusting situation my 10mm was in the white most of its life and is fine, finally just cold blued it cause I could and wasn't using it as often and figured a cold blue is better against rust long term John
  16. Bucket of Sand or Bucket of Rice ( have a 5gal bucket gamma lid and playground sand from Home depot ) Vanderbilt uses it for hand therapy and the Baseball team Pitching staff Bucket of Sand The muscles that open your hands are as important as the muscles that close them. This exercise works your hand opening and closing muscles simultaneously. If you want a short but effective total-hand workout, this exercise provides plenty of bang for your buck. Fill a bucket with playground-grade sand. With your fingers extended and held rigid, plunge your hand into the sand as deeply as possible. Close your hand and try to grab as much sand as possible, then without withdrawing your hand, open your fingers as wide as you can. Continue opening and closing your hand until your muscles become fatigued. Swap hands and repeat. Also can use said "Jar O' Dirt" as an upper body workout, think rigid sandbag
  17. Note to self : Cheek off Safety on maybe some painters tape and a sharpie where my cheek weld would be until it is second nature "CoSo" for short The cool stuff/ideas one finds here on BE Thanks
  18. Back in January (22) we got news the wife had 3 kinds of breast cancer 2 days ago she had surgery after 18 weeks of chemo ( 6 3 week intervals) Yesterday while in her room the phone rang, it was her surgeon the pathology report had come back no living cancer cells found ! Clear Margins, Clear Lymph Nodes we still have radiation and the remaining Herceptin treatments to go but knowing this makes all that that much easier as we finish up treatment and transition to survivor Thanks to everyone who helped with prayers etc. John
  19. That should pretty much eliminate any excuses anyone can come up with for not doing something Bookmarked for "those days" that try to break us down. Thanks for sharing John

  22. bullet weight (grains) x Velocity (fps) / 1000 = PF 230x850/1000 = 195.5 PF 155x1200/1000 = 186 PF
  23. try over at DIYTactical.com Bunch of folks both pros and hobbyists who make all sorts of gear vests, belts, shelters one even makes a tactical dog vest (Fight and Flight) and probably have all the multicam and cobra buckles you could want someone over there should be able to make you one or three. my plate is full or I'd do it, folks find out you can sew web gear and you have a hobby that eats more time than this one, made the mistake of showing my hunting buddies some of my gear and......now the "cobblers children's feet" John
  24. my 1993 G-23 does it and it comes out when you resize the brass that's why a Colt Gold Cup 1911 has the notch cuts at the back of the ejection port so it doesn't do that. Extractors if they are sharp will leave a nick in the rim end of the case John
