So I purchased the XTR today. For me, the reticle is way better than the MTAC. I looked at both and I felt more comfortable looking at the narrow/thin line horseshoe in the XTR than the fat donought in the MTAC. As for the illum being daylight visible... I took the scope outside and cranked it up and had no problem seeing the lit up horseshoe. There were some clouds overhead, so I'll have to wait for a really bright day at the range. The build quality feels great (for the price). I definitely dropped some weight compared to my prior Z6i. The XTR is shorter in overall length and clearly lighter. I'm definitely planning to purchase the throw lever. The eyepiece needs to rotate quite a ways to get into 4x. For me, it takes a double move to get 4x in place and I think a throw lever would make it smoother. The action is a bit grindy, but I'm hoping that smooths out over time. I felt the glass was very clear. The eye relief provides plenty of view and the colors seemed very natural. Again, this isn't Swaro glass, but I did compare it to a couple Nightforce 1-4's and felt the clarity was equal. What's more, I liked the layout of the reticle in the XTR much better. The holdover stadia lines are not bunched up and provide easy to follow lines leading to the center dot and horseshoe. I look forward to zeroing this scope in and later taking it long to see how well the holdovers match up to my ammo. For the money, I couldn't be happier with what I purchased. The scope will see light use, but when I do play, I play hard. Hopefully, it will withstand the torture! Thanks for everyones input. amac

Great info. I'm going to the scope shop today and will check things out closely. I've had the Vortex PST 1-4 and the illum on it wasn't great, but dialing it up did allow me to see the change from black to red. I hope the XTR at least turns a little red during daytime. No worries either way. I realize this new scope will be a long ways from my Z6i, but my level of participation has dropped off significantly and $2k was too much dough sitting in the closet. Thanks for the great feedback and I'll let you know my results.

I want to make sure the scope I get is rugged. I don't abuse my gear, but I don't want to worry about it not being able to handle a few bumps and dumps. I've been down the overseas made route and returned the scope 3 times. Not to say made in the USA guarantees any better, but here's to hoping so! : )

I was planning to zero at 100 to match up with their diagram. I will be double checking my data, but I think my 69gr SMK's are close to your 2725 fps. I would like to get as close to their drops/holds as possible. But, my local match never gets beyond 300, so that shouldn't be much of an issue. As for speed, I think a 1 moa illuminated dot should suffice. Add a horseshoe around that and I'm good. Thanks for the feedback. I haven't looked through either scope, so I will know more real soon. My impression from web shots is the wider/thicker ring on the MTAC would be more bothersome than the XTR's. A good dot in the center is all I really need and the XTR seems to accomplish that and then some. I will not mention what scope I sold, but needless to say this is a downgrading decision. I will say that my prior scope only had a red dot, followed by a drop down stadia line. That was fast enough for me.

Not sure I like the reticle. I'm more of a stadia line with cross hair person for the few long range targets. That aside, what makes the XTR more expensive? The description makes it sound as though the XTR is built more rugged. Is that the only difference? I've got the funds to buy the XTR, but if I can save a few on the MTAC, then I'm all ears. I will certainly check them both out. I owned an Vortex 1-4 and didn't like the small cluttered reticle. I'm hoping the XTR isn't the same.

I am planning on picking up a Burris XTR 1-4 this week with the intended use of 3gun. I'm looking for experienced users running the same scope to chime in their opinions - how good is it? Also, I've been reading where some MTAC owners are experiencing heat related issues with their illumination. Any reported problems with the XTR in heat? I live in New Orleans and it gets very hot down here! Last question... I'm assuming the ballistic charts Burris provides are produced with a 20" barrel. How different are the results with an 18" barrel? I'm hoping the 68gr, 2850fps data matches up with my 69gr, 2850fps loads. Thanks

Yep. I find the Nordic's are weakest at the joint/connection point. They should reinforce the point where the extension slides over the mag. I've got duck tape and or electricians tape wrapped around both of mine. So far, so good.

personally, i dont see how 2 inches can make any difference at all..for our game. when talk of going from a shorter 14.5-16 to a longer 18 i see the changes in the gas system making the biggest difference. Agreed. Managing the recoil difference from rifle lenght to middy or intermediate would be the primary challenge. But it's manageable. Just keep thinking that 80% of most 3gun matches are shot 100 yards and IN.

How's the long range accuracy on a G34? Meaning, do you need to upgradge the barrel to make reliable hits at 50 - 100 yards? I realize each shooter's ability will dictate some of this, but compared to a 2011 style setup, do Glocks need "match grade" barrels to improve accuracy?
