  1. Get them hooked on a new aspect of their hobby, invite them over for social gathering and show them how easy it is.. You don't want to live with knowing you almost cost a friend his gun and possible use of hands because you made a mistake, Ask me how I know...BTW Detonics make tough little guns Also making money by reloading (manufacturing) ammo is a problem with the Feds. there's licenses etc. needed to do that for me it doesn't pass the risk/reward test. but I will teach any of my friends how free of charge John
  2. for the last 20 + years I have used a Beam Scale,.. no problems with power cords breaking , lighting issues ( some don't like fluorescent lights) , electrical interference etc. search the forums or just put a scale next to a PC or TV and watch it for wandering... just a few months ago my Dad called and said he wished he had never given me that old scale since he was about to load a batch for a match and the power cord for his Digital went on the fritz... I say get one of each so you can cross check .. I have 2 beams because 20 years ago you couldn't afford the electronics.. and if it doesn't come with a set 1 set check weights.. John P.S. I have one of each kind of calipers digital and analog.
  3. overhead lays it out easier for me to see ,..sometimes it is hard to get depth perception from the first angle now I see the lineups for the sides, and the movement required .. direction by obstacles,.. nicely done ! John
  4. electro pencil my USPSA number and mag # L-926-1 L-926-2 etc. you can confuse initials but a USPSA # is certain identification.. John
  5. Had a stage like this back in 92 but with elevator doors and the far targets were obscured by NS... shot close targets then went prone in the doorway NS not a problem then others were trying to lean out around the NS etc. had a tall shooter shot right over the NS which gave me the idea to go low. Any rear foot faults to keep the shooter from just moving laterally or backing up or will the barrels direct shooter ? depending on how close to the 180 and barrels of course the shooter could just shoot the center window and steel then take a step or 3 back and it opens it all up.. being a "slow twitch" muscle guy I can fire faster than maneuver on a stage like this I'd rather take longer shots than go forward then back then forward again John
  6. other thing to consider,..most ranges are semi-remote , multiple bays clubhouses etc. can get confusing.. if it goes down remember to have someone meet the ambulance by the main gate / road tell Operator you have a (red toyota) pickup at the main road to lead in... remember seconds count,..and the folks in the ambulance don't know every where to look Just a thought form someone who waited for the ambulance at a match once......
  7. A hold over from single stack open guns... not sure if dust covers on wide~bodies are that much different dimensionally.. was popular until they started mounting them sideways..
  8. might even let them know we "take care of our own" and when we heard they were unfairly targeted by this bunch of radicals we felt it the right thing to do by showing our support Let em know we care more than this bunch of "Java Terrorists" trying to hold our coffee hostage... <~~ meant to represent coffee
  9. Interesting to see which side of the holster drinks more coffee that day.. http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/starbucks-pro-gun-policy-prompts-gun-victims-advocate-group-to-launch-nationwide-boycott-on-valentines-day-2012-137890863.html Social activism works both ways, John
  10. bee a mug& brush guy for over 20 years now... DUMP THE CAN !
  11. Who would they bring in as "Stig's Shooting Cousin" ? "Some say he can tell the velocity by how the gun recoils,... others say he bleeds CLP all we know is ,..he's called the Sevig "
  12. A few Marines may have heard of him,.... http://www.gettysburgtimes.com/news/article_ad511d70-a371-11df-b001-001cc4c03286.html He passed away today,.. he was known for "Steaks and Beers" in Gettysburg where he lived and supporting "The Face of America Ride" http://worldteamsports.org/2012/seamus-garrahy/ I sailed a Tall Ship with him as my Deck Boss in 1995 I am proud to say "I sailed with him" and always will be. he will be missed.. John Resendes Sailmaker HMS Bounty 1994-1996 Here's to you "Boss"
  13. RCBS or Lyman die boxes and Dremel out the insides fit my side pockets quite well.. got the idea from the guy I bought my 10mm from he had dremeled the insides and cut slotted windows on the lid so the floorplates of the 1911 mags would fit holds 8 mags if I remember correctly.
  14. Just saw this on a magazine cover and figure it hasn't come down to us masses yet... I know (tinstaafl) there is no such thing as a free lunch but "copper fouling erasing" powder seems too good to believe the Article had a pic of Jerry M if I remember correctly so I am sure it is aimed at the 3-gun nation was curios as to thoughts out there as I hope to finish my AR in 2012 so load development is a ways off John
  15. Skydiver >> I know it is a trick used by some folks who polish Aluminum wheels and engine parts in the show circles to get the "blue" tint of oxidizing out of the pores for a warmer look.... then they wax it to seal not sure if it is the same with SS. JaeOne >> without touching the frame I can see alot of work with scribe lines and files,.. run the numbers with your smith his Labor vs. refinishing and you may be surprised how those numbers come out.. it has a high TINSTAAFL Factor so see what he has to say before deciding... I shot a gun "in the white" for several years constant handling with silicone rags offset the constant handling with sweaty hands Turtle Wax ICE may help, I did this to my blued O/U I take duck hunting have done this every season for the last 4 and so far no rusting whatsoever and ICE leaves no white residue..you can't tell I waxed it either. John
  16. Looking at Starlines price list,.. if we had to buy our pistol brass price really wouldn't be a factor, however since we can get used .40 and 9mm cheap that is what alot of folks use (police range brass) my 10mm took a shooter to A class OPEN back in the early 90's just before all the P-9s and 28 round field courses showed up I went to B class in shortly thereafter. so yes it is viable if you don't count brass in the cost of playing the game.... and a 200 gr with a 190+ PF(950fps) will flat put poppers down even 4" up from the bottom ( for those pesky behind popper no shoots ) the only thing I gave up to the .38 Super was 1 round capacity and with the Nosler 135s it shot just like a Super I preferred a 155 LSWC or the 200 TCFP It is also fun to watch the chronoman doubletake when the calculator says a 240 PF 200 JHP @ 1200fps. John
  17. Perhaps P-A RH ? if so BATFE says Precision Ammunition is maker.. http://www.afte.org/...ters_001/P_001/

  19. in the immortal words of my dear Uncle,.. "Don't buy the horse if you can't afford the oats.." remember you will have to feed this animal,.. so the option would be 2. or 3. if you don't already reload,.. a set of dies and conversion plates aren't that much which brings a possibility of a "slightly delayed" 1. back into the picture.. regardless of who builds the gun,.. you are basically buying a frame and slide all the guts will be replaced a few times before those wear out so go for a reliable accurate pistol and down the road have ( insert gunsmith name here ) rebuild it.. my 5" has its 3rd. set of internals and second top end my 10mm has its 4th. set of internals my .38 Super has its second set of internals my Dillon RL450 has outlived them all . if that CBOB was in 10mm and I was in shape to purchase,.. I could help but my addiction is in financial remission
  20. most likely bridging,.. would almost bet a 6-pack and a steak on it. had an old Lyman Universal powder measure do that to me when I started loading .223 with IMR back in the late 80's's switched powder to win748 and all was neat and clean in my world. then I met the 550 was in love with a machine , after loading lots of handgun ammo I set up the 550 for .223 and thought it would be ok with the IMR powder but about 20 rounds later switched powder back to 748 Haven't looked back, spherical powders for anything smaller than .30 cal and life is happy... now if I was bench resting and throwing charges into pans and trickling maybe I would tempt my patience trying it again I can get to a good rhythm with '06 and 40+ gr. charges of IMR 4895 or IMR 4064 and a slight pause to assure full drop is only slightly slower than cranking out handgun ammo.. spherical powder or maybe the SC mentioned above and you will be churning out 25-06 in no time flat. John
  21. Motor oil that is 10W-30 means 10 weight at start up (room temperature) and 30 weight at engine operating temp ( 200+ ) when the oil is run too long the viscosity modifiers break down (sludge out) and you are running straight 10 weight in your engine. oil is oil it doesn't degrade, the additives break down and contaminants get in it.. you can filter it and reuse it if you had the proper gear that filtered that fine a particulate matter that's why they can "NextGen" it learned that from a class Valvoline taught to us parts guys.... I have an old 1lb. tub of dura-blend moly fortified grease I use on an ancient RL450 John
  22. welcome to the club of PING! Be aware that the M-1 has certain ammo requirements to keep from bending the OpRod if you reload it means IMR 4895 Varget or IMR4064 Also,.. M-1 Thumb is a done that/will do that proposition no matter what they say However it usually manifests itself during closing of an empty rifle... I remember back before 3 gun got started I used an M-1 in a rifle side match the R.O. stopped me after T4 because he thought my rifle broke was his first experience with an M-1 Enjoy the old Warhorse.. Won't say what I bought mine for but it was back when K-Mart sold rifles.... John

“The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it is indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it is indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it is indifference.” -Eli Wiesel (Holocaust survivor and author of the book Night.) Sgt. Sanders it isn't forgetfulness I fear but indifference of the "me" generation focusing on the now instead of then.. and I thank you both for your service. John
  24. Stephen Crane (1871-1900) wrote the poem he also wrote Red Badge of Courage and a contemporary of H.G.Wells I was introduced to his writings by a fellow sailor who gave me this line upon leaving one of my deliveries .. "None of them knew the color of the sky. Their eyes glanced level, and were fastened upon the waves that swept toward them. These waves were of the hue of slate, save for the tops, which were of foaming white, and all of the men knew the colors of the sea." — Stephen Crane, "The Open Boat" The inside joke here is that the sky is the same color when it gets rough enough offshore.. John
