  1. wondering if you could free float like they do the NM guns at Perry
  2. Accuracy first efficiency (speed) will come with experience and practice. You can't miss fast enough to win misses cost points and making up misses costs time so a slow miss is to be avoided John
  3. not sure what you are after,.. Velocity x weight divide by 1000 = Power factor without a chronograph you can only estimate velocity using published tables and correcting for barrel length of your firearm vs. test gun they used more of an ammo mfg. posted velocities then what gun (glock,CZ etc.) And yes you can usually tell the difference between Major factor reloads and factory ammo depending on caliber.. Hope this helps. John
  4. Pinarello needs to make a commercial with the tag line... "What has your road bike done lately"
  5. When my Dad taught me to reload the Mantra was: When in doubt, pull them out Think of it this way 50-60,000 PSI say 8" away from your face normally and we know short seated pistol rounds go up in pressure so it makes sense the same thing for rifle cartridges (smaller combustion chamber) Every reloading press should come with a bullet puller be glad you didn't setup to run 500 Learn the Lesson, recover the components and err on the side of safety always John
  6. eraser works or a blob of RTV or hot melt glue (can remelt when it gets used up) no projectile just resize the case or just buy some of the red plastic ones with the primer on a spring. Most will say modern guns don't need snap caps,.. I view it as a cheap insurance John
  7. My turn : 3 year project due to other priorities but now just a few bits left then start saving for optics to replace these I had laying around DSA lower with a Timberwolf SS LPK,FailZero hammer, PWS enhanced buffer tube ACS stock Moe grip,BAD lever and TG Aero upper CORE-15 bolt BHW 18" 3P rifle gas JP cooley Comp, Rainier Arms 12.37 rail YHM gas block/sight black gas tube and scope riser Originaly planned to just use a red dot and irons so thats why the YHM hooded sight block, and yes I know I am bridging the reciever and handguard with the scope mount this will be reset before it sees the range might even set the 4-16x40 for load development hunting etc. but here it has a Tasco 4x32 fixed and simmons red dot Parts to get :thinner front sight post don't think FO insert would live there long ,2 YHM flat lugs to replace forward rail on gas block not sure what you would want to hang off a gas block, optics and FCG probably CMC flat, Magpul thick Butt plate and rig something on rail to take bipod (Harris) and a Firebird PMag coupler Edited on www.pixlr.commakes my pics look better than they should John,
  8. Would be better for you to shoot and have your spotter call the shot as it happens so you can concentrate on the feel of the shot and where your sights etc. were when the shot broke, if you view your spotter calling your shots as "training wheels" while learning to call your shots by correlating feel of the shot with their call so you can learn to call your shots then it is an OK idea. then move to calling your shots out loud to have the spotter verify what they see and hear from you. When the timer goes BEEP for real your spotter will not be there and you will have to become your own coach and make instant judgements and corrections,.. this ability will make you a much more competitive opponent vs. someone who has a rigid style and cannot or will not call their own shots. John
  9. could just rework this one,.. add clamping blocks to the back holes that are already there (45 offsets on the outside optional) trim away the underside ears forward (upside down U channel) so you keep your team Warne logo , making it into a cantilever mount and still keep the style points call it the Tischauser Canti-RAMP better than the Tischauser CRAMP "yeah I went with the TCR on my 3G AR lets me NTCH my Swaro-Z6i its pretty pimpin..." John
  10. One thing that was said to me as a young man by an older rleative and I share with everyone who can use this bit of advice as I have found it to be true.. The decision of who you live with and marry is a very important one as it will determine 98% of your future happiness,.. you can choose well or choose to live in hell. :D or John
  11. Now we are breaking in primer tubes? What is this world coming to? Sarge, Load tube with 1 primer, seat primer clean tube with long pipe cleaner dipped in plastic safe parts cleaner allow to dry, do this 5 times.. Load tube with 5 primers, seat primers clean tube with long pipe cleaner do this 3 times... Clean tube with JB Paste then load as normal.. or if your tubes are chrome lined or have some other treatment load and seat, thay are unbreakableinable.. :roflol:
  12. Since it is over the clamped part of the rail to receiver any flex would be minimized unlike a front sight that is 12 1/2" away from the clamp which I can easily see as a sight problem holding zero interesting to see what happens as I have raniers version of that rail (Samson) and was considering doing the same thing. Of course you could reverse the mount and come back off the handrail but that would negate the 45 offset mount that the RAMP provides unless you want to run an offset dot/sight forward John
  13. I too would like to thank you for your service I live in Tenn. but my Dad lives just south of Tampa . and is always looking for someone to go shooting with John
  14. Very nice, different from the one you are replacing ?
  15. Samson inserts work with a Troy ? http://www.samson-mfg.com/ar-15_html/product/QD_Mounting_Kit.html no rail just a socket John
  16. About 6 months ago a good friend of ours let us know she was getting married and asked my wife to be a bridesmaid, and I thought I'd dig out my old 35mm and shoot one more wedding however... 3 weeks ago she called rather distraught as she had both her minister and backup minister call out (ones son was getting married that weekend the other not sure what happened) and asked if I knew anyone who could do it in short order Well, I happen to be an ordained minister but she didn't know it so I said "I got this covered.what do we need to make this happen" Quick check of Tennessee laws abour officiating .... check 2 weeks to work up a ceremony Saturday October 6th,2012 at 6PM they were duly married and I gave my first official "I now pronounce you Husband and Wife..." Was a wonderful experience to not only help a friend but to be in the best seat in the house for this special event John
  17. I don't shoot IDPA but I would have no reservations about using one of my 4" Model 10 those old Model 10s can shoot and most every one I have handled 13 or so have all shot true makes a neat carry gun also since mine is DAO nothing to snag. John
  18. They show me that even after 30 years together there are things I have yet to learn about them and that they and my eyes are always changing, and complacency and pride in ability will be corrected with severity and quickly be replaced by humility.
  19. clearancing the gasblock for the handguard may need to trim the bayo lug and ears for swivel but should fit over birdcage and shaved block even at 1.5" ID Rainier stops at 12.37" not sure about the others Dan built me one hell of a 10mm back in the day still runs great and if I lived closer I'd have him build my pile of parts I have coming for my AR build but I left Mass. years ago. he is pretty darn sharp about these things.. John
  20. Troy or Rainier Arms and I think a Samson Evolution use the stock barrel nut http://www.rainierar...product_id=2563 Samson makes them I am told 12" would cover that 15" would be awful close to the brake though. "ummm low profile gas block",.. Dremel ? YHM makes a 2 piece affair for pinned muzzle devices also. John
  21. wrap a sheet of paper around the handguard,.. that will tell you where to not put your hand or if it is an issue paper ok hand will be ok paper gets hole blown in it then you know..
  22. I hang it on my range bag strap and let my rangemates know what/where it is "just in case"..or hang it on my hunting gar when afield. Been lucky so far and it has stayed zipped up and silent... John
  23. still got your series 80 firing pin safety gear in it? I had a lever wear and fail to lift the block, or you could have some grunge in there keeping the plunger from rising up out of the firing pins way.. John
  24. LRN = Lead Round Nose TMJ= Total Metal Jacket ( copper ) Lead and Jacketed/plated data will be different, due to friction differences between lead/steel and copper/steel thus lead data is usually,....USUALLY less powder than copper jacketed. COL usually shorter causes higher pressure/velocity because the combustion chamber is smaller for a given powder charge..keep in mind if a projectile has a different oal then when loaded into the case at the same OAL the longer bullet will be seated deeper. as far as how consistent the components need to be, not as fine as one would think, once you have your recipe/charge then using the same box of bullets, same powder charge and same lot of primers you are plenty close enough for our game,..no need to case trim or trickle powder or even weigh each bullet like a benchrest shooter would.. Even for my Bullseye gun a S&W M-52 the only thing I add is to trim up the cases for the first loading then it outshoots me every time I pick it up...and I admit it is a psycological thing with that pistol untrimmed work just as well.. John
  25. On that batt compartment I would use 2 small dots of paint as lineup "locked" indicators and witness marks to see if it moves easy to tell at a glance if your all set. used to have a red dot above the 9 on my old Tasco PDPs auto touch up paint and a toothpick. might look into one of those for my 10mm since my PDP is getting flaky in its advanced years John
